Missionary Pilot George Woodward to Speak at Local churches
George Woodward, missionary pilot with Wycliffe Bible Translators, and his wife Phyllis, a nurse, will speak at Faith Baptist Church Marble Rock during Sunday School and morning services at 10:00 and 11:00, and at Calvary Baptist Greene for youth and evening services at 7:00 and 8:00. Woodward, a Navy veteran, flew patrols in Alaska and the Formosa straits during the Korean War. Now a bush pilot in Peru's Amazon basin, he transports missionaries and supplies to remote jungle stations. He holds a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Minnesota, worked for Honeywell, studied at Moody Bible Institute, and is a certified airframe and powerplant mechanic and pilot. Phyllis, a West Suburban Nursing School graduate, Wheaton College alumna, was a Chicago hospital nursing instructor before their August 1958 marriage.

Leo Downing 61 of Greene died suddenly from a heart condition at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City after hospitalization Saturday. Born October 24 1897 in Coldwater township he lived on the family farm. Survived by wife Anna Crowe three daughters Margaret Ritter Mildred Goodenberger Evelyn two sons Louis and Daniel and eleven grandchildren, a brother Joseph and sister Mrs Charles Price. Funeral at St Marys Catholic Church in Greene conducted by Rev P J Boyle with burial in St Marys Cemetery. Williams Mortuary directed arrangements.

A Sacred a plant in bloom at the Hurd home on North Second Street attracts notice. Mrs Hurd obtained the bulb from Mr Kirsch of Cedar and the plant, usually blooming in shady times, now displays a large leafed stem with mottled green gray stalk and maroon bloom. The bulb, kept in moisture, grew rapidly and produced small bulblets last fall. A pungent odor preceded the bloom as the plant began to rise from the basement where it was kept.
