Flood crest Monday sent ice piles along the Cedar and Shell Rock rivers threatening homes on Creamery street. Ice jams below the dam flood the island by the city dump and cover the highway for two blocks while residents call for upstream flood-control spending to protect Waterloo and nearby towns.
To date over $200 has been contributed to the LeAnn Wilken fund with $129.20 in-store container donations and $7500 from individuals. Contributions may still be sent to Mrs. Ronald Schuknecht or Mrs. Duane Leavens or dropped in store containers. LeAnn's mother is former Greene resident Jean Kingery.
Louse Wells reported the death of her brother Otto Schliep in Seattle Washington on February 23 He was born in Swift County Minnesota and married Ruth Casper of Grand Forks North Dakota in the early 1900s Their son Clarence survived along with six nieces six nephews and one sister Mrs Louise Wells of Greene Other relatives included his parents Mr and Mrs Albert Schliep two brothers one nephew and two nieces Burial took place in Seattle where he lived
The Butler County Cattle Feeders Banquet is set for Monday March 22 at 6 45 p m in the Boyd Building Shell Rock. Vernon Stockdale chairing with talks by Jerry Sotala Chicago Livestock Commission and Dr M L Sipe Parkersburg Veterinarian. Tickets available from local feeders and County Extension office Allison. The event will feature a price guessing contest prize awards and recognition of 1964 Calf Scramble winners and sponsors. New Beef Producers directors and officers to be elected.
National Girl Scout Week runs March 1 to 13 with Girl Scout Sunday on March 7. Local troops totaling 108 girls and 32 adults are active with Brownie Junior Cadette and Senior groups led by multiple mothers and advisors. Camping programs include Day Camp and camps at Camp Christy and Camp Gaywood along with Cookie Camp for younger scouts.

New resident couple Mr. and Mrs. Roger Martzahn welcomed a daughter born Wednesday February 94 at Flord County Memorial Hospital in Charles City. The infant weighed 7 pounds 5 ounces and was named Michelle Ann. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs. Roy Martzahn of Greene and Mr and Mrs. Richard O’Connor of Rockwell.
Heavy weekend rain and rapid runoff caused the Shell Rock river to crest about 50 feet above flood stage near Greene Monday night. Ice jams and rising waters forced evacuations along South First Street while sandbagging and emergency repairs continued into the night.
Mrs. Helen Schwartz underwent surgery Thursday at Floxd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City. Donald McGee underwent surgery Thursday morning at Mercy Hospital in Mason City.

The Greene Fire Department answered a Friday evening alarm at 7 00 for Mrs. Anna Reed on Southen Street. The fire of unknown origin gutted a stairway bedroom living room and bathroom with the house and contents insured and the extent of damage not stated.

Dr. J. T Truitt attended a weekend orthopedic class in Mason City where an eighteen month course aims at certification and Orthopedics Council membership. The session focused on whip lash injuries from rear end collisions causing immediate minor discomfort but potential lasting pain and stiffness.
William S Johnson was taken by ambulance Tuesday morning to Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City where he remains under observation and receiving treatment.

The sixth annual World Day of Prayer unites Greene community in a Friday observance. Churches including Church of the Brethren Methodist and Presbyterian invite all to join a service at the Church of the Brethren at 7:30 p.m. The event, held during Lent, centers on the theme What Doth the Lord Require.
