Mabel Wilder spent two months crocheting an oversized American flag from more than ten skeins. It proved too heavy to fly and will stay in the house or be lent or sold for a Bicentennial exhibit. She plans a second flag with 13 stars. Clarksville Star, June 3.

Sr Howard C. Murphy 87 a Greene native died June 17 in Rochester Minnesota. Funeral was June 19 at St Francis Church Rochester. Born March 17 1899 he married Ruth Corbett of Greene who died Aug 8 1969. Parents of Louis Harriet Harry and three other children with 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. A Luther League float planning session is set for June 30 at 7:30 p.m. in St Peter's Lutheran Church basement.
Aredale marks America's Bicentennial with a July 11 parade at 2 p.m. relay races and games for all ages, a 4 p.m. softball match Dumont vs Aredale, 5 p.m. barbecue plates at 75 cents, 7 p.m. Miss Aredale crowning and flag presentation. Parade lineups 1 to 1:30 p.m. Prizes for floats. rain date July 12. Reserved seats for a fair demolition derby go on sale at multiple banks.

Mentions local banks and insurers by name and promotes Demolition Derby with prize money and trophies, predicting high attendance and first come general admission tickets for the Derby on the 15th.
The Greene Public Library offers a 16mm Sound Projector and screen for loan as a Dorothy Mehlan memorial. Regulations require a responsible adult with a Greene Library number, signed responsibility form, one library day loan with $1 per hour fines for overdues, and priority for large organizations.
A dated meal plan lists daily offerings from Thursday July 1 to Thursday July 22. Dishes feature country fried chicken, hamburgers, roasts, fish, beef entrées, vegetables, salads, and desserts, with no meals on July 5.
Adult swimming lessons will be held at the Greene pool from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday and Thursday evenings through July with a $1 per session fee. Lap swimming is also offered for adults at the usual 93 cents. Children ages 3 to 5 have lessons 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. the week of July 5–9 with no signup required. Red Cross lessons run 9:00 a.m. July 12 to July 23, with a 50 cent charge for nonresidents of Greene School district.
The Goodwill Truck will be in Greene on Tuesday July 6 at the United Methodist Church basement. Residents are asked to bring goodwill items to the basement by Monday, the day before.

Mrs. Lyle Shultz and Mrs. Galen Martzahn learned Monday of the death of their brother Harold Hansen of Milwaukee. A former Greene resident, he retired last year from the U S Forestry Service. Relatives including Mrs. Wordmeyer and Mr. and Mrs. Martzahn traveled to Milwaukee to attend services planned for today.
Greene's Bicentennial celebration on July 5 features kids races and water events on the high school football field starting at 9:30 a.m. Each age group for 3 to 12 year olds offers cash prizes for the top three finishers. The Beta Sigma Phi local chapter and Greene Commercial Club sponsor the events with free watermelon and fireworks.
Rear Admiral Mark P Frodden USN remains commander in Korea and adds duty as Senior Member United Nations Military Armistice Commission meeting monthly at Panmunjom on the 38th parallel. Civil events include Last Pioneer's Canoe Race and Huck Finn Raft Race at Perrin Park with free watermelon and fireworks, plus graduation news from Mayo School of Health-Related Sciences in Rochester and wrestling standout Barry Delp heading to Nationals.
A Greene Elementary school library opened this summer inviting elementary students not in session to borrow books. A young housewife asked if this is the place to get some books, signaling community interest in the new library access during break.
A farewell reception for Msgr. Edmund L. Cooney is planned at St Marys Church Hall on Thursday night July 1 at 8 p.m. All friends are invited to attend. The notice also recaps vacation property checks, holiday mail, and a lively Greene library summer reading program via Area Education Agency 2.
