Woman crafts giant American flag to celebrate Bicentennial

Mabel Wilder spent two months crocheting an oversized American flag from more than ten skeins. It proved too heavy to fly and will stay in the house or be lent or sold for a Bicentennial exhibit. She plans a second flag with 13 stars. Clarksville Star, June 3.

Sr Howard C. Murphy 87 a Greene native died June 17 in Rochester Minnesota. Funeral was June 19 at St Francis Church Rochester. Born March 17 1899 he married Ruth Corbett of Greene who died Aug 8 1969. Parents of Louis Harriet Harry and three other children with 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. A Luther League float planning session is set for June 30 at 7:30 p.m. in St Peter's Lutheran Church basement.

Swim Lessons At Greene Pool This July

Adult swimming lessons will be held at the Greene pool from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday and Thursday evenings through July with a $1 per session fee. Lap swimming is also offered for adults at the usual 93 cents. Children ages 3 to 5 have lessons 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. the week of July 5–9 with no signup required. Red Cross lessons run 9:00 a.m. July 12 to July 23, with a 50 cent charge for nonresidents of Greene School district.

Death of Harold Hansen Reported by Greene Relatives

Mrs. Lyle Shultz and Mrs. Galen Martzahn learned Monday of the death of their brother Harold Hansen of Milwaukee. A former Greene resident, he retired last year from the U S Forestry Service. Relatives including Mrs. Wordmeyer and Mr. and Mrs. Martzahn traveled to Milwaukee to attend services planned for today.

Greene's Bicentennial celebration on July 5 features kids races and water events on the high school football field starting at 9:30 a.m. Each age group for 3 to 12 year olds offers cash prizes for the top three finishers.
