Greene Commercial Club approves petitions protesting mail service reductions at the Greene Post Office and future cutbacks. Schoneman Rites Held For Frank E. Schoneman

Frank E. Schoneman 61 died Tuesday at his Allison home. Services were at St. James Lutheran Church at 1 30 PM with burial in Allison Cemetery where military rites were given. Survivors include his wife Alvera two daughters Mrs Charles Wubbena Waterloo and Mrs Dave Mongin Green Bay Wis three sisters Mrs Bernard Faught Charles City Mrs Wayne White Nashua and Mrs Russell Frascht Charles City three brothers Richard Clarksyn Bill St Ansgar and Randall of Allison. Kenyon rites held Thurs for Theodore Kenyon

Funeral services for Theodore Kenyon 69 of Marble Rock were held Thursday June 17 at Reid's Funeral Chapel with burial at Hillside Cemetery. Rev. Carroll Robinson officiated. Kenyon born April 1 1907 in Norwich New York died June 14 at Good Shepherd Nursing Home Mason City. Survived by wife Bertha Marble Rock one stepson LaVerne Smith Marble Rock and four stepdaughters Lyla Truex Opal Ackley Alma Jean Hinrichsen Shirley Herman all Marble Rock plus a sister and brother in New York.

Class of 1926 reunion at Round Grove Golf Club

Greene High School’s Class of 1926 marked their 50th reunion on June 5 at Round Grove Golf & Country Club. Eighteen of 35 members attended, with many local and former residents listed. Herman Stubbe presided as Master of Ceremonies, Wilbur Tindall led the invocation and memorial service for deceased classmates.

Kids Races Set For July Fourth Celebration

The Beta Sigma Phi Greene Commercial Club sponsor Fourth of July Kids Races on Monday July 5 at 9 30 a m on the high school football field. Races for ages 3 to 12 award cash prizes to the top three finishers. Afternoon events include canoe and raft races, free watermelon and fireworks at Perrin Park.

Senior Girl Scouts Paper Drive This Saturday

The Senior Girl Scouts will pick up papers this Saturday June 26 and ask for curb collection by 10 a.m. Acceptable: boxes bags or tied bundles. A marked vehicle will serve rural residents at Pooley Lumber Co parking lot. Collected papers go to Harold's Service Center near Nashua to be turned into insulation.

Infant Allen Wheat Committal Services Held

Graveside committal services were held Tuesday morning at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in Charles City for Allen Wheat infant son of Mr and Mrs Kenneth Wheat who died at birth. Survivors include his parents, maternal grandparents Mr and Mrs Francis Brinkman, paternal grandmother Mrs Pearl Wheat, maternal great grandmother Mrs Rosa Brinkman. Hauser Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Bicentennial Mass Choir Rehearsals Scheduled

The Bicentennial mass choir will rehearse each Wednesday at 8 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church Educational Unit. Participants from Allison, Greene and Clarksville area are asked to meet at 7 30 p.m. for the skit.

Greene girls rally to take 7th in tourney and stun Nashua

The Ramblerettes totaled 75 runs in five games while allowing 85, posting 2 wins and 3 losses. Bev Brinkman earned her third conference win, homering and driving in three as Laura Harris hit a three run shot in a late rally to beat Nashua 27 20. On Thursday they faced Allison in the first round of the tournament.

Allison Roughs Up Greene In Marathon Invitational

Allison exploded for five runs in the first inning and seven more in the third to build a big lead before Greene rallied with two in the first and nine in the third to close to one at 12-11. Walks and errors in the sixth sealed Greene’s fate as Allison won. Bev Brinkman took the loss after a 3 for 4 day and three RBIs including a third inning triple. Laura Harris added two doubles.

Dawn Landers Wins 12th Grade Poetry Contest

Dawn Landers of Greene placed first in Grade 12 at the annual 1976 Iowa Poetry Day Assoc. contest. Teacher Mrs. Barnhart assisted. Her poem will be published in the association brochure of poems to be released at the Oct 16 Cedar Rapids convention.

Jim Schroeder Celebrates 30 Years in Greene Concrete Business

Jim D. Schroeder marks three decades with Schroeder Concrete in Greene. He began in 1946 with Andrews Concrete, bought the Greene firm in 1959, expanding from two 2 cubic yard mixers to seven 7 cubic yard trucks. The company sells redi mix to private and contractor customers and also performs installations. Schroeder and his sons Bruce and Dan run the business, with Bruce as redi mix plant manager and Dan leading the construction crew. The firm pours basements with brick patterns and handles footings walls and floors as a three day job, serving a 250 mile radius. Schroeder, his wife Mary, and daughter Jan are active in Greene church and community groups.
