John Albrecht 84 former Greene resident died Friday at his Roseville California home after three years of declining health. Survived by wife Hattie daughter Mrs Clarence Lohse three grandsons one great grandchild two sisters Mrs William Noss Sacramento and Mrs Ann De Mar Greene two brothers Matt Sacramento and Tom Greene. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at the Catholic Church in Roseville California.
The summer sectional baseball tournament starts Wednesday July 7 with games at Allison and Waverly. At Allison, Plainfield faces Charles City S.C. at 6:30, Hampton meets Allison-Bristow at 8:00, with Greene to play the winner on Friday. Dumont meets the other winner at 8:00. At Waverly, Waverly Shell Rock plays Fredericksburg at 6:30 and Sumner vs Denver at 8:00, with New Hartford and Janesville facing the winners on Friday. Semis are Monday July 12 and finals Wednesday July 14.
Mr and Mrs Noel McCalley of Cedar Rapids announce the birth of a son on June 22 weighing 8 pounds 5% ounces. The baby has been named Michael Shaw. Mrs McCalley is the former Rowena Hansen of Greene.
Mrs James M Briggs of Cedar Falls died late Tuesday at her home from age related complications. Born Mary Alyce Stoner October 28 1880 in Marble Rock she married James Marion Briggs January 4 1905. Survived by husband two sons Burton Cedar Falls and Gaylen Marshalltown seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral 2:00 PM Friday at Dahl Funeral Home Cedar Falls officiated by Rev Harvey A Bartz burial Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens Cedar Falls. Relatives attended from Elmhurst Illinois Ann Arbor Michigan Marble Rock Greene Nashua Clarksville Magnition City and Marshalltown.
The Women’s Invitational Golf Tournament was played at the local Country Club last Wednesday. Becky Morrell of Charles City won the 12 hole championship with 88 and Margaret McLaughlin of Dougherty won the 9 hole championship with 52. Seventy five ladies from multiple towns entered, with winners listed across eighteen holes in six flights and the nine hole event. Local prizes went to Fern Stuntz Julia Green and others. bridge prizes also awarded to several Mason City and Charles City players.
William J. Rease 61 died after months of illness in a Clear Lake nursing home. Born July 6 1903 in Marion Ohio he worked at Mason City Brick and Tile and later owned the Country House and Country Lounge. Survived by wife Edna a daughter LaDonna Zimmer man and grandson Todd Zimmerman among others. Service Saturday at 2 in Major Memorial Chapel Mason City with Rev John Moldstad. Burial Memorial Park Cemetery.
A dance will be held at the Country Club on Saturday evening July 3 starting at 10 PM. The directors will serve on the committee.
Mr and Mrs Dennis McWilliams of Bristow are parents of a son born Sunday morning June 27 at Floyd County Veterans Memorial Hospital in Charles City. The infant weighed 8 pounds 3 3/4 ounces and is named Gregory Brian. Grandparents are Dr and Mrs William Andrews and Mr and Mrs Lowell McWilliams of Charles City.
Five consecutive fourth inning errors doomed the Ramblers as Riceville seized a four run surge to win 4 3. Greene scored twice in the third after Ott started the rally with a single and Clapham plated a triple, then Drake brought him home. Buffridge added a seventh inning run for the Ramblers. Ott pitched well with 17 strikeouts after allowing one hit and one walk. Rambers will host Nora Springs this Friday.
Reverend G F Butler among 91 pastors attending the Omaha School for Presbyterian Pastors July 7 14 at the University of Omaha Nebraska. The refresher course targets ministers with at least five years from seminary. Enrollment is by invitation only. Ninth annual conference sponsored by the Council of Theological Education and the Omaha Seminary.
Anna S Stevenson 79 of Alameda California died June 12 she was a former resident of Greene. She belonged to First Presbyterian Church of Alameda Alameda Chapter No 386 O E S and the Gold Star Mothers Oakland Chapter. Survivors: daughters Leona McGraw Rockford Illinois Ruth Miller San Leandro California and son Arthur Stevenson San Leandro California one son Charles preceded her in death. Funeral services were held June 14 at 2 00 pm Chapel Fowler Anderson Funeral Directors Alameda Rev H W Van Delinder officiated.
John McWhirter of Allison, county savings bonds chairman, reports May sales of Series E and H United States savings bonds in Butler county totaled $30,255, bringing five month Butler total to $300,694, 35 percent of the 1965 quota. Iowa’s May sales reached $7,928,481, lifting five month state total to $51,008,222 for 45 percent of the goal, the Midwest’s highest state percentage.
Mr and Mrs Gerald Krukow of Sheffield announce the birth of their daughter Kimberly Sue on Wednesday June 23 at Floyd County Veterans Memorial Hospital. The baby weighed 9 pounds 10 ounces at birth and is the couple's first child. The mother is formerly Joyce Worley.

At a joint meeting of farmers and businessmen softball managers the annual contest was set for Sunday July 11 at 8:00 pm on the high school field. The event benefits the Little Leaguers and Babe Ruth squad with funds to take youths to Minneapolis to see a Twins game. Volunteers are being sought, tickets to go on sale this week, with gate sales the night of the game.

Ton Haggarty 88 died at Eutangqua Guest Home in Charles City Tuesday morning. He was born in Greene and lived most of his life in this community. Survivors include two sons Kenneth of Cedar Rapids, two daughters Mrs. Henry Cramer of Parkersburg and Mrs. Wayne Crawford of Independence, and 22 grandchildren. Funeral services are pending with B.R. Funeral Chapel in Cedar Rapids.
Rev and Mrs Leo Sandgren Jr missionaries to the Central African Republic will guest speak at Calvary Baptist Church mid week service Thursday at 7 p m They have served one term with Baptist Mid Missions and will return to Africa late July They will show a 16 mm reel of life in Africa Public is invited.

Work is progressing rapidly at Greene's new swimming pool with the opening date tentatively set for July 12. Weather delays and slow arrival of materials have slowed progress but crews push toward a summer debut.
Biology students from Butler County spent June 22 at Big Marsh Game Management Area learning about local flora and fauna led by Conservation Officers James Gregory and Dean Dazelle. They also visited Backbone State Park on June 24 to study fossils plant life and a trout hatchery before touring the State Pine Forest and planned stops at De corand Fish Hatcheries Butler Center Prairie and Pilot Knob with a soils presentation by the Butler County Soil Conservation Commission.

Cadet Paul Burroughs of Greene has been selected to serve on the instructor staff at the U S Air Force Academy this summer. He will teach during the basic training for the incoming class of 1969 and is noted for teaching and leadership abilities. He hopes to receive a B S degree and a commission as second lieutenant next June.
Thomas A. Hagarty 88 of Evansdale died Tuesday in a Waterloo hospital. His nephew Most Rev Leonard Hagarty Bishop of the Bahamas will conduct mass Thursday July 1 at 10 00 at St Nicholas Church Evansdale. Burial will be in Charles City. He farmed in Greene and Floyd counties for years. Survived by wife two sisters Elizabeth and Anne Hagarty of Greene and 104 descendants including 8 daughters 4 sons 58 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren.
Lt. Col and Mrs. M. R. Seymour and family spent Thursday and Friday with his aunt Mrs. F. A. Einen and with Mr. and Mrs. Anden Reid and family. He recently returned from Germany where he was in charge of provisions for armed forces in Europe. He will be stationed at Richland Virginia in charge of purchasing provisions for Europe.
Serjeant and Mrs. Donald Daiker and their children are visiting the home of his uncle and aunt, Mr and Mrs Blair Moffett. They recently returned from Germany where he was stationed the past three years with the U S Air Force. Daiker will report to Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in North Carolina on July 8.
Mr and Mrs C E Burroughs and sons Brian and Neil returned from a two week vacation traveling through the Bad Lands Black Hills and Yellowstone. They spent eight days at Heidelberg Lodge in the Teton Mountains and visited Evergreen Colorado on June 19 to see Paul Burroughs instructing civil air patrol cadets. They drove their son to the Air Force Academy Colorado Springs on June 20 and stopped at Bennington Nebraska to visit the Pool ey family en route home.
The 1965 Butler County grading project in Allison involved 10.989 miles of work. Heitland Bros. of Hampton and Heckman Reynolds of Charles City bid $82,828.67 and $84,105.35 respectively, but both were rejected as too high on June 14. A negotiated deal with Heitland Bros. settled at $72,896.17 on June 21, with work starting north of Section 34, Dayton Township.
Relatives in Greene report Cheryl Nettleton daughter of Mr and Mrs Will Nettleton Farnhamville was salutatorian of Cedar Valley School’s 1965 graduating class. She plans Briar Cliff College Sioux City to study to become an elementary teacher. Grandfather Louis Nettleton noted.
The B and W Food Market will sponsor an old fashioned smorgasbord next Wednesday evening July 7 in front of the store. The event runs 5:30 to 8:00 PM. Bill Walker, store manager, said a variety of cold meats and cheese will be served. The public is invited.
