Way Station opens to youth in Greene community
The Way Station founded by Wartburg College student Dave Barker began May 11 above the Greene library. It offers a Christian atmosphere for youth and all ages, with the director and a rotating advisory adults, a chapel for S.O.S sessions, a rap room, games, and Bible study. Donations support the venture through local churches or treasurer Mrs. Fred Hawker.

Wayne Eldon Thomason 53 of Greene died June 20 at home. Born February 1 1915 in Waverly to Bert and Maude Thomason. WWII Army veteran stationed in the Pacific. Survived by wife Grace a son Terry Waterloo two daughters Carolyn Iowa Falls Lynette Greene two grandchildren and one brother Galen Monroe. Funeral June 23 at St Marys Church Greene burial St Marys Cemetery Rev Edmund Coones officiated. Reid's Funeral Chapel in charge. Tack Barnett American Legion Post 268 conducted military rites.

River Days a great success signals annual event
Greene Jaycees chair Jack Reid says Those Good Old River Days drew strong attendance again and campers signed up for next year. He thanks advertisers, the Greene Commercial Club and volunteers who staffed booths cleaned streets hauled garbage and moved bleachers. The detassling crew departs at 6:30 Friday morning July 6.

Greene River Days crown Susan Holtz in 1973 event
Greene's Those Good Old River Days drew about 25 000 visitors over a three day weekend. Susan Holtz, sponsored by the Greene Commercial Club, was crowned queen by Jan Majewski of Marble Rock at Greene High School football field. The celebration featured camping, a parade, drum and bugle corps, amateur water skiing, a Hawaiian luau in the park, fireworks, and skydivers with many townspeople and visitors taking part.
