New resident Mr and Mrs Kenneth Feldman welcomed a daughter Cindy Kay born June 13 at St Joseph Mercy Hospital Waverly weighing 6 pounds 14 ounces. She is greeted at home by sisters Connie and Jill and brothers Scott and Tracy. Grandparents are Fred Feldman Greene and Tom and Mrs Smith Nashua.
Word has been received of the death of Harold Wegand of Chula Vista California on June 15 He was a former resident of Greene and had ties to the community through years past
The local baseball league starts play this evening with games at the athletic field. On Wednesday schedule the Dodgers face the Braves at 6 15 pm, the Yankees meet the Giants at 7 25 pm, and the Orioles play the Indians at 8 30 pm. Teams include Braves Orioles Giants Dodgers Yankees Indians with listed rosters. Jack Larson and Doug Hollway also play on one of the teams.
The Greene Post Office will be closed on Thursday July 4th. There will be no rural carrier service or counter service on that day. Mail will be received, distributed and dispatched as on any other holiday.
Fifty county residents were drawn for possible District Court jury duty for the third calendar quarter of 1968. Trial jurors will report on call with no definite date yet. Names are listed by township, including Albion, Beaver, Bennedette, Butler, Coldwater, Fremont, Jackson, Jefferson, Monroe, Pittsford, Ripley, Shell Rock, and West Point townships.
On May 21 1968 Butler County held grading bids for four projects with Heitland Bros Construction Co of Hampton winning the low bid 8789042 the other bid 15486500 by Reilly Construction Co of Ossian Iowa Projects covered roads north of Iowa No 188 Packard Bristow and Aredale. Maintained crushed stone surfacing contracts were signed June 3 1968 Paul Niemann Construction Co of Summer to haul 36183 tons for 60185 Greene Limestone Co of Greene to haul 70583 tons for 11247988.
David and Jolyn Meyer, children of Harold and Mrs Harold Meyer, were operated on Monday morning for tonsillectomies at Floyd County Memorial Hospital.
Three youths from Iowa Falls Jerry Mark Sheafstall 17 Kenneth Vernon Mann 18 and Robert Eugene Hutzel 18 were arrested Sunday and charged with larceny of a motor vehicle. They were returned to Allison Sunday afternoon and appeared in justice court Monday. Shoalstall released to mother and juvenile authorities Hutzel released on own recognizance Mann bond set at 1000 dollars not furnished. They allegedly took Andrew Schippers Parkersburg owned vehicle Saturday night and drove to Des Moines Boone and back to Iowa Falls.
About 942 Butler County farmers hold 2,344,816 bushels of 1967 corn and 463,683 bushels of 1967 soybeans under CCC loans. Loans mature July 31, 1968, with options to repay and sell, deliver to CCC, or reseal on farm or in warehouses to receive storage payments. Storage is $13.14 per hundred bushels per year. warehouse storage payments go to the warehouseman.

The RCA Rodeo will again be a feature attraction at the National Dairy Cattle Congress in Waterloo. The exposition runs September 21 to 29 with three performances in the Hippodrome on September 28 at 2 30 and 7 00 pm and September 29 at 2 30 pm. Each rodeo will be followed by Western horse shows with top Quarter Horses Paints Appaloosas and POAs. Produced by Bob Barnes of Peterson Iowa the rodeos include Saddle Broncs Bareback Bronc Calf Roping Bull Riding Bulldogging and Girls Barrel Races. This marks the fourth year for the big time rodeo at the Cattle Congress. Other entertainment includes Doc and Festus Gunsmoke on September 24 25 and 26 and the Grand Ole Opry Spectacular headlined by Ray Price Hank Thompson and The Plainsmen on September 27.
The Babe Ruth and Little Leaguers lost to Nashua 4 to 3 and 8 to 1 on June 17 and 20, while Marble Rock swept 12 to 0 and 9 to 0 earlier. Pinked by strong pitching, Jim Van Eschen starred with a no hit bid in the Marble Rock game and Jerry Shultz tossed a 1 hitter in the Nashua win. Greene and Ramblers meet Marble Rock on June 27, with Greene traveling to Rockford on July 1.
Cadet Girl Scouts run activities for grades 1 to 4 at Perrin Park. On Tuesday morning July 2 boat safety follows the swimming lesson. Archery on Wednesdays at 3 p.m. at the elementary school. Bowling after swimming on Wednesdays. Golf on Mondays at 9 a.m. Transportation to El-Bar Lanes available from Perrin Park.
Mrs. Charles Teeple head cook at Greene Elementary school lunch program returned from a one week school lunch short course at Iowa State University Ames. A total of 160 school lunch cooks attended from across the state. Topics included menu planning food preparation sanitation storage practices equipment and school community relations. The course is one of a series of three sponsored by the University Institution Management Department and the Iowa Department of Public Instruction School Lunch Section.
Butler County Engineer announces that the mile of road east of Section 1 Dayton Township near Clarksville is open after bridge work. Aluminum railing delivery is due in July. a temporary wood railing remains. Grading on three miles of Charles City road north of Iowa 188 began last week and the section is closed to through traffic.
Three bids for seal coating 37 miles of Butler County roads were opened in Allison on June 20, 1968. Everds Bros., Inc. of Algona, Iowa topped bidders at 33313.78 dollars. Other bids came from Manatts, Inc. of Brooklyn, Iowa at 35260.49 and Dearborn Asphalt of Sioux City, Iowa at 40877.87. Work covers routes around Aredale Bristow Shell Rock and New Hartford. contractor to begin immediately.
In November, NIAC will hold three evening leadership training meetings in Forest City, Mason City, and Charles City for voluntary association leaders and potential leaders. A study on service clubs, women's clubs, PTA and commercial clubs in the MIAC area will be reported. Enrollments via NIAC County Extension offices are limited per organization to keep groups small.
The Butler County Selective Service office in Allison will close from Tuesday July 2 through Friday July 5 for a vacation absence.
Nine North Iowa Girl Scouts joined seniors from Iowa, Nebraska and Missouri at Hawkeye Roundup at Camp Little Cloud, Iowa, June 9-18. Representing North Iowa Council: Rosemary Campbell, Linda Gordon, Sarah Caster, Cheryl Showalter, Judy Long, Mary Wessells, Jeanette Fredericks, Jane McRoberts, with Toni Elliott as program director.
In Butler County residents will compete in a six category cookout contest at the county fair with beef pork lamb poultry turkey and a novelty class. Top local contestant earns state finals bid at the Iowa State Fair on August 21 and pays entry fees. Judges reward meat prep originality use of Iowa products and showmanship. Contestants supply own gear. Entry blanks via Farm Bureau in Allison or committee members. Open to Iowa residents over age 12. The statewide prize includes a Maytag Laundry Center set and travel for two to Las Vegas if gas grills used. Proceeds promote outdoor cooking and Iowa meat.
Wilbur Klassi was admitted to Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City on Saturday for treatment.
Sixteen girls registered for Girl Scout Day Camp at Old Round Grove from Monday to Friday. Leaders are Mrs Gordon Schafer and Mrs Dean Ott with Mrs Martin Senne as director and Mrs Jim Schroeder as business manager. Aids include Jolene Johnson DeAnn Ott Jan Majewski and Vanda Heitland.
Cliff Dulin has returned home from Floyd County Memorial Hospital after a week of treatment. The family reported steady improvement and thanked staff for care received.
Country music takes center stage at the 1968 National Dairy Cattle Congress in Waterloo with The Grand Ole Opry Spectacular. Ray Price, Hank Thompson, The Plainsmen, LaVonne Lear, Those Nashville Belles, The Cates Sisters, Alec Houston & Elmer, Billy Gray, Carter Potter, and others perform in two shows at 2:30 and 7:00 p.m. The event marks the first big country show at the Cattle Congress, closing midweek with horse shows planned later in the week. The Expo runs September 21–29.
Twenty high school biology physics and chemistry teachers study on the Iowa State University campus in Ames through National Science Foundation Summer Research Participation grants. The program aims to stimulate teacher identity with science under guidance of ISU graduate faculty. Participant Albert Tinderholt of Greene is listed among the teachers.

Children in the summer recreation program will play softball Thursday morning June 7 in Perrin Park. They should meet at the park around 10 15 or right after the swimming lessons. The softball session was canceled on Tuesday due to rain.
