Mrs Cliff Ross visited University Hospital in Iowa City for a routine check-up on Tuesday. The appointment focused on general health assessment and preventive care with no complications reported.
Mr and Mrs Marvin Baxter of Charles City welcomed a daughter born Monday June 8 at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City. The infant weighed 8 pounds 8 ounces and has been named Lisa Ann.

Army PFC Ronald L. Hurd son of Mr and Mrs Lester L Hurd of Greene is assigned to Battery A 5th Battalion 32d Artillery of the 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley Kansas. He entered service in December 1961 and is 21. His wife Anna lives in Junction City Kansas.
Frank Ruzicka born January 29 1875 in Pacer Czechoslovakia died Sunday June 21 at Mercy Hospital Mason City. Survived by three sons two daughters one grandson a brother and a sister. Butler Soil Conservation District and Grain Dealers of Iowa announce the 1964 Queen of Conservation contest open to single farm girls ages 16 to 21 in Butler County. Judging based on poise and personality with no swimsuits, two local winners advance to regional, state winner earns 250 dollars, and the queen will host the Field Day and Contour Plowing Match near Van Meter September 9-10, 1964. Entry deadline is 5 p.m. July 11 at the Allison district office.
Justices of the Peace Frank Knight and Blair Moffett and Mayor W. J. Bamker joined a Traffic Court Conference and School of Instruction in Des Moines on Thursday June 18 under Chief Justice Theodore Garfield. The event reviewed arrest to sentencing of traffic violations and heard recommendations for mandatory jail terms for serious offenses and statewide stiffening of penalties for repeat violators to reduce accidents.
J. P. Moffett and James H. Barth of Greene were charged with failure to stop within the assured distance ahead. Barth was fined $10 and $4 costs. Larry E. Noel of Greene was charged with violation of an instruction permit and received a $5 fine.
Mrs. Eugene Shafer has returned to her home in Chandler Arizona after a visit in the home of her husband's parents Mr. and Mrs. George L Shafer. Chief Warrant Officer Eugene Shafer is in Okinawa where he will be stationed one more year with the Air Force.
The Little League and Babe Ruth squads posted wins over Nora Springs on Thursday. Ramblers beat Nora Springs 19 to 7 in the Babe Ruth game with strong hitting, while the Little Leaguers won 5 to 0 as Gary Johnson no hit the hosts and teammates backed him with solid defense.
An investigation is underway into a dynamiting incident at Flood Creek near the new bridge site two and a half miles west and one mile south of Powersville. Early Sunday farmers reported hearing the blast and noises suggesting culprits sought game fish including northern pike and black bass in the hole.
Reverend Wayne Gjerde, pastor of the local Methodist Church, was ordained Elder during the closing service of the Methodist Conference for Northern Iowa at St Paul’s Church in Cedar Rapids on Thursday evening. Attendees from the area included Clyde and Mrs Stuntz, Aaron and Mrs Jewell, Calvin Kelly, Darrell and Mrs Davis, Kenneth Jackson, Mrs Wayne Gjerde, and Mrs Helen Gjerde of Garner. A reception in the local church parlors followed on Sunday to honor his ordination and return to Greene for the coming year.
Paula Elaine Lindell daughter of Mr and Mrs Arthur Lindell was baptized Sunday at St Peters Lutheran Church with sponsors Mr and Mrs Harold Heykes of Rockwell City. Dinner guests included Harold Heykes and Susan Kruse George Kruse of Newton. Joel William son of Mr and Mrs William Shepard of Des Moines was also baptized at St Peters on Sunday June 21 with sponsors Carol Crosby and John Gard. Guests at Dale Crosby home dinner included Dana Shepard Susan and Wade of Allison.
Pianist Frey will perform a recital Sunday at 2:30 PM in the Allison-Bristow High School Auditorium Ison. A hole was found in the area lined with dead rough fish and likely game fish removed by culprits. Conservation Officer Ben Davis of Osage is investigating and requests any pertinent information.
Greene built an 11-1 win over visiting Allison as Woodley pitched a no hitter with 12 strikeouts and 3 walks. Leonard Morey flew from Minneapolis Minnesota to Los Angeles California on Tuesday June 16 where he visited his brother and sister in law Mr and Mrs Victor Morey and family From there he went to San Jose California where he is spending several days with his son in law and daughter Dr and Mrs R G Sletten and grandson Christopher Mr Morey will return home next Sunday
After a week and a half of summer school the Butler County Summer Math class had its first speaker on Wednesday June lua. Dr John O Chellevold Dean of the Faculty at Wartburg College spoke on what a college expects of its math students and outlined Wartburg College math courses. He noted what high school students should have in preparation for college mathematics and said new aspects of mathematics are always emerging though we are only beginning to study them.
Six year old Vernon Keen son of Earl and Mrs Keen of Aberdeen underwent a tonsillectomy at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City on Friday morning. He is recuperating and staying with his grandparents Dr. and Mrs B V Aanersen for several days.
A group of five Butler County dairymen are cited for butterfat production as of April 30 1963 1964 by Ray Connell County Extension Director. Names include Flius Smith of Greene Harley Hansen & Sons Plainfield Harold Ripley Clerksville Mrs Nathan Chester Plainfield and Frank H Reints Shell Rock with butterfat in the 371 to 549 pound range. Supervisors Merle and Charles Lillibridge note seven individual cows exceeding 500 pounds in 305 days by end May with farmers listed in Sumner Shell Rock Clarksville and Waverly. In Tennessee Mr and Mrs Paul Shafer visit the home of Mr and Mrs James Grimes at Spring Hill Mrs Shafer is a patient in a hospital there for treatment of an infection.
Ellen Lindaman, 18, of Bristow was chosen 1964 Butler County Dairy Princess at Clarks ville Dairy Day before about 2000 attendees. Runner up was Lucille Barnett. Lindaman will compete at the State Dairy Princess Contest in August. Parade winners included Dayton Willing Workers, East Butler Boys, and Jefferson Livewires.
A barn on the Henry Kramer farm south of Greene was flattened by a twister about 7 PM on Thursday June 12. Several other buildings sustained minor damage but there were no injuries. Mr Kramer 7% and Mrs Kramer 74 years old.
A college quartet named Men of Song will perform at Grace E A B Church in Aredale Friday June 26 at 8 00 pm. The group consists of ministerial students from Miltonvale Wesleyan College. The Bennedette Wesleyan Methodist Church sponsors the program as its church is being remodeled and enlarged. Regular services are held in the former Lee Cutler home one mile west of the church.
Fifty children enrolled as park activities began on Monday with Mr Eimer opening the session. Horseshoe and baseball were played while the week’s theme My Job guided projects of plastic bottle holders and cloth covered images of professions. The group includes Mrs Loren McRoberts and others. Betty Wirth invites sixth graders to help later. next week’s theme is The Carnival with a July 2 carnival costume day.
Clarence Shultz came home today from Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City after three weeks of treatment for a heart condition. He was discharged on Wednesday and noted to be in good spirits.
Guy Olson Butler County Guidance Coordinator and president of the County Teachers Association will represent the group at the national convention in Seattle from June 28 to July 3. He and his family will camp en route to Seattle and in Canada on the return trip.
James H. Graven announces the formation of the law firm Graven and Graven with his son Norman R. Graven, a 1964 Iowa College of Law graduate. James Graven, a 1921 Minnesota Law School alum, has practiced in Greene since 1921 with past partnerships and now practices solo, while Norman has earned a BA from Wartburg College in 1962 and is a member of local and national bar associations.
A piano recital will be held at Brethren Church on Sunday afternoon. The program features a group of student pianists led by Hamuton and Suinai. The public is invited to attend.
The board of Education of the Keene Community School plans offering employment this summer to college men during this school year. Work to be done under custodian supervision. Mr. Grendler asks available young men in this category to apply to the superintendent without delay.
Cadet Paul N Burroughs son of Mr and Mrs Clifford E Burroughs Greene is on a field study tour of US and allied military installations in Spain Italy France and Germany as part of summer training He will assume a junior officer position in an operational Air Force unit after overseas study and training in the Third Lieutenant program Cadet Burroughs will receive his second lieutenant commission upon graduation from the academy in June 1966.
