Professor David L. Graven won the Faculty Award at the Law School’s annual recognition program. The honor as outstanding law professor of the year comes from a vote of the graduating class.
A special meeting for ladies at Calvary Baptist Church Greene on Wednesday June 29 at 2 p.m. Mrs Fredrich Larsen of Kesley will show a cancer film of special interest to women. The doctor is scheduled to address the gathering. All ladies are urged to attend.
Mrs Paul Weiland won Greene Bucks totaling 20 dollars, securing second prize of ten dollars plus ten retained from the prior week. Mrs Edna Hunt drew the third prize of five dollars. The drawing follows the dairy princess crowning next Saturday evening, with a first prize of forty dollars since the twenty-dollar first prize was not awarded Saturday night.
Five neighbors joined John Weichers to cultivate 80 acres of corn and beans on Saturday June 11. Weichers is convalescing after May 31 surgery. Helpers were Melvin Majewski Valeris Taylor Howard Shaw Harry Eliason and George Krull with Paul Wolf supplying tractor gas.
Rainy June weather forces the Dougherty Saddle Club to move its show from Allison to Sunday June 26. Halter classes start at 9:00 AM with speed events in the afternoon.
Butler County Dairy Day will be held in Greene this Saturday with 12 girls competing for the Dairy Princess title. Judges begin at 9 30 a m at the New Elementary School Building followed by a noon luncheon and a 1 30 p m parade with 4-H groups and local floats. The event includes a free dairy bar, a 7 30 p m talent show on Main Street, and announces the new Dairy Princess and parade winners after entertainment. Ann Schilling, alternate Iowa Dairy Princess, will attend.
Bonnie Nikolas daughter of Mr and Mrs Leo Nikolas of Osage and granddaughter of Mr and Mrs Fred Patischull graduated from St Marys School of Nursing in Rochester Minnesota on Sunday. She was Osage high school 1963 graduate and held offices in Legion of Mary and Minnesota Nursing Students Association and was first Mitchell county nursing student to receive a March of Dimes award with 250 dollars for two years. Attendees from the area included Mr and Mrs Fred Patischull Kathy Patischull Douglas Franke and Mr and Mrs Dean Patischull and family of Greene and Mrs Hannah MHeaver of Nashua.
Dick Witwer underwent surgery last week at University Hospital in Iowa City.
Marine Private First Class Ronald E. Stewart, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Stewart of Greene Iowa, completed a month long Mechanical Fundamentals School at the Naval Air Technical Training Center in Memphis Tennessee. He continues at the center for seven week Basic Helicopter School and will be assigned as a helicopter mechanic with a Marine Corps aviation unit.
Greene Ramblers beat Nora Springs 13 to 6 on Friday with Sutton’s charges scoring across multiple innings. John Barth went 3 for 4, Fischer 3 for 5, and Gabe pitched 5 hits and 10 strikeouts. Ramblers then beat Neal and Klemsrud 10-2 on their home diamond with Lynn Gabe pitching a complete game as Rockford tallies. Greene seizes sole first place, with upcoming games at St Ansgar and host Riceville on June 28.

Jerry Eimers announced girls softball practice for 5th 6th 7th and 8th graders will be held on Mondays and Thursdays at 10 00 a m at the baseball diamond.

A daughter was born in Japan to Mr and Mrs Douglas Marsh on June 16 weighing 7 pounds 12 ounces. The baby is named Tina Louise. Douglas Marsh will be stationed in Japan until January 1967. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Ralph Marsh of Greene and Mr and Mrs Stanley Roose of Bristow.
The Women’s Club summer recreation program starts a bicycle safety class for ages 5 to 9 at Perrin Park next Wednesday June 29 at 9:00 AM. Patrolman Pearson will discuss bicycle safety. The high school first aid lesson held this morning continues with a second session next Wednesday from 9:00 to 11:00 AM.
Greene's Little Leaguers and the Babe Ruth squad share top spot in the Shell Rock Valley League at 4 wins, 1 loss after Greene and Nashua split a doubleheader. Nashua battered Greene 8 to 1 in the opener before the Babe Ruth team won 7 to 3 behind Rick Siemens two hit effort and timely scoring.
Mrs Hubert Worley was discharged Monday from Floyd County Veterans Memorial Hospital in Charles City after undergoing major surgery.
Captain Thomas E. Stanton of the 195th Military Airlift Command Squadron based in Van Nuys California flew to Waterloo Saturday to visit his mother Mrs A L Stanton and other relatives for the weekend. He is a sales representative for IBM in Los Angeles and flies with the California Air National Guard on weekends.
In Hospital Ellis Bammann at Mercy Hospital Mason City the patient treated for a heart attack suffered another attack Monday evening. He is again receiving oxygen as medical staff monitor his condition.
