Deputy Lane reports lights on the television booster tower north of Greene were knocked out last Sunday evening. An AT&T crew from Des Moines will verify the damage after arriving to repair. Three lights failed: two at about 150 feet and a beacon at the 300 foot top.
New residents Mr and Mrs Floyd Senne of Allison welcomed a son named Gregory Kenneth born Sunday at 5 15 pm weighing 4 pounds 10 5 ounces. Mrs Senne is former Verlene Barth. Mr and Mrs August Schucler of Bristow welcomed Robert James born Friday weighing 8 pounds 9 ounces. Mrs Schucler is Joy Delker. Mr and Mrs Roger Stanton of Greene welcomed a daughter born Tuesday morning weighing 4 0 ounces. Mrs Stanton is former Janice Schmitt of Charles City.
The Cleveland Indians beat the New York Yankees 5 to 4 while the Pirates edged the Milwaukee Braves 8 to 6 in opening Little League games Tuesday night June 14. Key hitters included Eddie Johnson and Ronald Stewart with notable tries by Gary Ross and Tom Hagarty.

Ricky Adams seven year old son of Mr and Mrs Bill Adams underwent a tonsillectomy at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City Monday morning. The youth returned home Tuesday morning.
The first Greene Bucks drawing listed winners Louie Juhl and Ruth Heitland each get $5.00 while Jack D. Shultz and Gary Beck receive $10.00 each. Lester Hurd wins $20.00, Victor Stauffer $25.00, and Betty Harbour $30.00. Two uncollected entries lose $15.00 added to next Saturday’s drawing.
Levi Ackart is named new manager of United Telephone Company in Greene. He has seven years with the company, including time at Avora and New Hampton. He is married to Ruby Johnson, with two sons, Terry and Brent, and will move to Greene after July 1.
The Greene Cafe bowling team finished fourth in Class D of the Women’s State Bowling Tournament at Cadillac Lanes, Waterloo. With 203 teams in the class, members Carol Shultz Kay Nordmeyer Marge Martzahn Lanora Shultz and Wanda Johnson posted scores of 478 475 424 400 and 379. The team earned $100.
Brownies and Girl Scouts completed a day camp at Old Round Grove last Friday afternoon. Thirty-five girls from Greene and Clarksville attended, divided into three units by grade. Activities included nature study, crafts, knot tying, cooking, and open-fire meals, with themes Americana Indians Hawaii and Alaska.
Explorer Post 46 or Greene sponsors a free 10 point car safety check on Saturday June 25 from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. The event is on South First Street beside the Albrecht Feed Mill and invites everyone to bring their car for inspection.

Dale Grapp of the Butler County Extension Council announced Grace Benjegerdes of Postvine will join as Butler County Extension Assistant in Home Economics effective July 1. She earned a BS in textiles and clothing from Iowa State University Ames and was hired jointly with ISU to fill a vacancy after Francene Winslow. Benjegerdes is a former Alamakee County 4-H member and Tomahawk Honorary, with prior extension trainee experience in Allamakee County. She expects to start work in Potter County July 1.
Janea Fischer daughter of Mr and Mrs W C Fischer underwent tonsillectomy at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City Wisconsin on Thursday morning.

Iowa joins national observance of the 28th Soil Conservation Week proclaimed by the Governor. Conservation plans drive land adjustments and soil moisture preservation. Frank Mendel notes progress as 53,000 of 75,000 district cooperators formed plans and 12,000 applied practices. all cooperators are active in conservation work.
Mr and Mrs M K Sperry returned Friday from Iowa City where they visited their daughter and son in law Dr and Mrs Clifford Mitchell and two children. The Mitchells left Friday for California where Dr Mitchell will be an instructor on the medical staff at Stanford University in Palo Alto.
Greene hosts Powersville next Sunday as Bob Nordmeyer aims to rebound after the Cedar Valley League loss to Sonia 1 to 0. Nordmeyer pitched all Greene contests this season and will likely take the mound again.

Postmaster General Summerfield has advised Congressman H. R. Gross that Greene will get a new Post Office under the Commercial Leasing Program. The site is east of South First Street between East Tracr and Rowley streets, lots 17 and 18, with space between the M. K. Sperry Insurance building and the Sylvester residence. Ample parking will be available in front, aiding business district access and Main Street shopping. Bids and specifications are available from Real Estate Officer Fred B. Agnew, Des Moines office.
Dick S. Kupker of Nora Springs representing New York Life Insurance Company earned the 1960 National Quality Award at a Waterloo Association of Life Underwriters meeting.
Two members of the Butler County Historical Society and their families will host a pot luck dinner Sunday June 26 at the open shelter house on the north side of Heerys Woods in Clarksville at noon. An afternoon tour of sites in the eastern county follows. rain will cancel both events.
Carl Richard Post age 21 of Des Moines was returned to Allison Wednesday by Deputy Marvin Barth on two counts No Operator's License and unlawful use of Operators License. Post pled guilty in J P Court in Allison and was fined 35 dollars on each charge or ten days in County Jail. The fine was unpaid and he remains in jail.
A good neighbor deed occurred at the farm residence of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Schrage in the Wili community last Friday. Mr. Schrage is hospitalized in the Alen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, neighbors and friends came with etors, drugs, discs and to put in 75 acres of t hose helping were Raymond , Dareld and Donald nken, George Seehausen, Walter Weiland, Hero KRampman, William Wiebke, Ervin Drakle, Maynard Boeckman and Edwin The neighbor ladies furnished the food for the crew and Mrs. Raymond Schrage and Mrs. Ed wan Schrage helped in serving it.
At the end of May Butler County reports savings bond purchases totaling 583,068, reaching 52 percent of the 1960 quota. May sales were 84,018, placing the county above the halfway mark. Iowa leads the region in dollar volume and quota attainment with a five month total of 69,623,007 for 45 percent.
Emil Carl Schroeder of Sheffield was fined $10 plus $5 costs by Justice of the Peace Frank Knight for a stone sign violation.

Mr and Mrs Cliff Burroughs and other Investors Diversified Services representatives spent a weekend in Clear Lake to celebrate the company’s greatest single month of production. The Burroughs flew on the company plane as part of a small delegation. Grady Clark of Minneapolis spoke Friday night at the Holway Lounge in Mason City.
