Hitch hikers Paul Beguelin John Henning and Harvey Uhlenhopp with Schroeder Concrete employees stopped a freight car on Saturday afternoon. The crew found two boys about 8 to 10 years old aboard after Cedar Rapids stop, with Florian Rutz alerting railroad officials in northern towns. The train was halted at Manly where the youths were removed.
The Cub Scouts will host Allison for a return baseball game at the ball park. All 8 9 and 10 year old Cubs and 11 year old former Cubs meet at 9:00. The 8 and 9 year olds play first followed by the 10 year olds.

New resident Airman First Class James A. Viers and his wife Mrs Viers in Pineville Louisiana announce the birth of their daughter on June 17. The baby weighs 7 pounds 6 ounces and is named Carmen Maria. This marks the Viers family’s second girl in 50 years.
The Greene Little League extended its winning streak with 13 to 1 over Rudd, 15 to 1 over Floyd, and 17 to 9 against Rockford. Tom Hagarty and Marty Bramer led with multiple hits, while pitchers such as Fischer, Gabe, and McRoberts held foes. Babe Ruth teams went 2-1, beating Rudd and Floyd 5-4 but falling 3-0 to Rockford. The Youth Center will operate only on the second Saturday night of each month starting now. If temperatures are too high the hours may be affected and the center could remain closed.
Judge and Mrs Henry N Graven hosted the fifteenth annual reunion of former law clerks and their families over the weekend. Guests attended golf and a social gathering at Round Grove Golf and Country Club, with a Sunday noon dinner at the Graven home on North Fifth Street. Attendees included families from Des Moines Dubuque Ottumwa Kansas City Waterloo Cedar Rapids Burlington Fort Dodge Clarksville and more along with current and new clerks.
Robert Wildman son of Mr and Mrs Dale Wildman visited last week with his parents before leaving for Washington D C where he has accepted a position with the Atomic Energy Commission.
Gary Dale Nelson, 25, of Davenport, was returned to Allison on Saturday June 25 by Deputy Sheriff Marvin Barth on a charge of False Pretenses. Nelson, involved in chimney fixing deals in Parkersburg in November 1959, was arraigned in J. P. Court Sunday June 26. bond set at 700 dollars for the next term of District Court. Bond furnished and Nelson released to Waterloo Police who hold a warrant on him for embezzlement.
Miltonvale Wesleyan College group will perform a sacred concert at Bennezette Wesleyan Methodist Church near Bristow on Sunday July 3 at 10:00. The quartet tours Iowa Minnesota South Dakota Montana Wyoming Wisconsin and Nebraska during summer to church and camp programs. Pastor Rev Richard Stoneberg invites the public to attend.

Mr and Mrs Henry Dralle received a cable Saturday announcing the death of Miss Minna Dralle aged 73 in Swelenfeld Germany. The notice states the deceased was the former’s sister.
Country Club and Round Grove Golf and Country Club host July 4 activities with a noon pot luck for members and guests, a mixed two ball foursome tournament afterward, and evening entertainment. Carl Richard Post, 21, of Des Moines was arrested Tuesday June 21 on a charge of disturbing the peace at the County Jail. Sheriff Marvin Barth signed the information. Post pleaded guilty in Greene County Court, was fined 30 days or $100, and remained jailed for nonpayment.
The Greene Fire Department was called out Friday evening at 6:30 to extinguish a grass fire along the Otte Scofer land west of Greene.
The Greene High School Band will take part in the Governor's Day ceremonies at Clear Lake as marching and concert units. Rehearsals are set for 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday June 29 and Friday July 1 this week, with band director Ray Holtz requiring attendance from all available members.
Robert N. Overson, 32, former Greene High School principal, was sentenced in San Francisco to 8 years in federal prison for robbing the De Leandro Bank of America branch last April of 1116 dollars. The court said he requires psychiatric treatment to relieve obsessions.
The 1960 Butler County Democratic Convention will be held on July 1 in the Courthouse at Allison. Delegates elected in each precinct in the June 6 primary will participate as the convention opens at 10:00 AM after an 8:00 PM start. It will name 16 delegates to the Regular State Democratic Convention in Des Moines on July 23 and 16 delegates to the State Judicial Convention on July 30, plus elect members to various district committees. Edward Gallagher Jr., candidate for Congress, is slated to deliver the keynote address. All interested Democrats are urged to attend.
The Greene Community School received a 1959 Chevrolet V-8 Turboxlide engine for use in shop training. Presented on consignment by the Chevrolet Engineering Center in Warren Michigan, arrangements were made by industrial arts instructor Robert W. Terhowske. This donation is part of Chevrolet's educational aid program through major auto components.

Greene officials outline Fourth of July events for children at Perrin Park and nearby venues. Plans include races, swimming and foot contests starting at 8:00 a.m., with the Hoof Beats drill team performing at 10:00 a.m. The Greene Commercial Club and Greene Sportsman's Club donate prize money. If weather turns bad, events move to the Youth Center or football practice field.
Plainfield defeated Greene 4 to 2 on the local diamond Sunday night. Both teams had six hits but Greene’s fielding miscues cost them. Next Sunday Greene hosts New Hampton at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral services for Arthur Parker 71 were held at Bethel Baptist Church Marble Rock following a long illness. He was born October 26 1888 in Curran Illinois and married Daisie Brown December 24 1912 in Hannibal Missouri. The Parkers lived on local farms before moving to Marble Rock in 1941. Surviving are his wife Daisie eight children fifteen grandchildren two brothers and two sisters with one grandson predeceasing him. Burial was at Hillside Cemetery Marble Rock with Hamilton's Funeral Chapel in charge.
Jerry Peterson 13 son of Mr and Mrs Milton Peterson of Lake Ahill has returned home from St Josephs Mercy Hospital in Mason City. He has rheumatic fever and will be confined to bed for several weeks. Mr Peterson is a former high school principal at Greene.
The Greene Junior Legion nine beat Charles City A in a playoff 3 to 2 after a 2-2 tie, then won the nightcap 5 to 1 at Charles City. Kenny Barth hit a triple and Klunder a double in the playoff’s second frame. Marsh started on the mound. Gabe relieved in the second. Greene benefited from three mis plays by the host.
A new service at the wading pool begins July 6, with Girl Scout supervision on Monday Wednesday and Friday mornings from 10:00 to 11:30. Any child up to 9 years old may attend, with Pamela Dralle and Vicki Brunsma as the first supervising girls.
The Butler County Republican Convention meets at the Court House in Allison on Friday July 1 at 10:00 a.m. Delegates elected at the June primary and interested Republicans are urged to attend. The convention will elect 25 delegates to the State Convention in Des Moines July 20 and 25 delegates to the Judicial Convention in Des Moines August 2. It will also nominate a candidate for County Treasurer from five primary contenders who failed to reach 35 percent.
John E. Van Eschen of Greene has been elected for promotion to Lieutenant in the United States Naval Reserve. The selection was made by a Naval Reserve Selection Board and confirmed by the Bureau of Naval Personnel in Washington, D.C. on Apr 12.
New residents Mr and Mrs Bert Rampman of Charlesville announce the birth of a son on Sunday June 26 in Charles City. The infant weighs 9 pounds ounces and is named Gary Ellyn. Mrs Kampman is the former Arlene Ver Plank, daughter of Mr and Mrs Dale Ver Plank. Mr and Mrs Roger Stanton name daughter Sandra Jane born June 21.
