Cadet Steve Barnett and Mary Lynne Abdner wed at Air Force Academy

The ceremony in the Chapel of the Air Force Academy near Colorado Springs drew many locals, with Barnett, top aeronautical student and class standout, and Mary Lynne Abdner, recent University of Colorado Boulder graduate, celebrating a historic June 1969 union. The couple’s families and notable figures shared pride as Nixon appeared on TV congratulating Barnett.

Summer Recreation Program Begins on Monday June 16

The Greene Community six week summer recreation program starts the week of June 16 sponsored by the Woman's Club. Activities include horses, fishing, bowling, and archery directed by Mrs. Max Wezand Mrs. Florien Rutz Mrs. David Markle and Mrs. Loren Mec Roberts. Register by Saturday June 14 by calling the listed leaders. Girl Scouts supervise younger children at the park under Mrs. Don McBurney.

Herbert Cleveland Barnett 75 died Thursday June 5 after illness at Floyd County Memorial Hospital. Born September 18 1893 in Butler County to Walter and Florence Barnett he farmed area all his life. The Greene Recorder will close from June 22 through June 28 for its annual vacation. Two papers will print next week, with issues scheduled for June 18 and June 20, and mailings on June 25. Advertisers and news contributors must send copy by June 20 to meet the schedule.

Beginners Band Formed at Greene Elementary School

A new beginners band formed in the fourth grade at Greene Elementary during the last week of school. Free instrumental lessons offered this summer with a two month trial rental plan.
