Ivan Clikeman returns home after eight weeks at St. Marys hospital Rochester Minnesota following a tractor accident. Mr and Mrs Max Dougherty relocate with four children Terry Debbie Jacki and Sandy from Griswold to Greene. Dougherty to coach Greene High School football this fall. The family settles in at 14 Tushway Place after the previous residents move to Iowa Falls.
Mrs P C Peck is a patient in Finley Hospital Dubuque after surgery last Wednesday. She will remain in the hospital for ten days.
Jim Marshall of Greene won the first heat in stock car racing at Nashua on Saturday. Marvin Moser of Greene finished fourth in the consolation event as forty two cars raced with sixteen qualifying for the feature. Protests targeted Car No. 77 driven by Darrell DeVries and Car No. 12 driven by Jim Heerman. cars will be torn down and may forfeit winnings and face a thirty day competition ban.
In hospital Mrs Florence Woodling was taken to Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City Friday for treatment. Her son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs Wayne Jones of San Diego California have returned to Greene to be with her.
The first Red Cross swimming lesson of the summer will be Thursday morning June 11 at the Parkersburg pool. Eligible children are those eight by September 1. A through M depart Perrin park at 8:00, N through I at 9:00 by bus. The annual men’s city golf tournament kicks off at Round Grove Golf and Country Club with an 18 hole qualifying round due by Sunday June 14. The event gathers local clubs and players aiming for match play rounds later this week.
Sixteen candidates entered the Butler County Dairy Teen Contest to be held with Dairy Day in Clarksville on Saturday June 20. The day features a Dairy Day parade at 1 30 pm a fire department event at 2 pm a band concert at 7 30 pm local talent at 8 pm and the crowning of the dairy princess at 9 pm. Kent Suttons Junior Legion baseball team opened the season with three victories last week. Ott and Woodsey combined on Hampton win 7 1, Ott threw a no hit 4 0 over St Ansgar, and Woodley pitched to beat Charles City 6 1. Greene led Hampton scoring in opener with Spratt triple and Marsh RBI hits.
Leora Williamson has returned home from Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City after treatment for a heart condition. She is staying at the home of Mr and Mrs Ira Thomas with Lyle. Private First Class Leon Williamson and family have returned to Fort Riley Kansas with Loel H M 3 Larry Williamson returning to Norfolk Virginia aboard the U S S Independence after visiting his mother.
Mr and Mrs Leon Steere welcome a daughter born Saturday June 6 at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City The infant Angela Lee weighs seven pounds six ounces and joins the family report says.
The Tuesday night baseball league begins on June 16 with six teams for grades two through six. Over eighty players participated last year, prompting expansion. Games start at 6 60 pm with a one hour time limit of five innings. Coach Jerry Eimers asks fathers to volunteer as coaches each Tuesday. A special practice for 2nd and 3rd graders runs June 17 from 11:00 to 12:00 noon, then Wednesdays and Fridays at the same time.

The Explorer Scouts conducted a free auto safety check Saturday in Greene. 206 vehicles were checked including 162 cars and 28 linens and pickups. Most defects were lights or turning signals. several out of state cars participated.

Janet K. Fiddick daughter of Mr and Mrs Floyid Fiddick of rural Greene received the Wahlert Chemistry Scholarship at the Scholarship Honors Convocation a pre commencement event at the University of Dubuque. She was also on the Dean's Honor Roll for the first semester.
Jim Graven and Norman Graven, sons of Mr and Mrs James H Graven of Greene, earned law degrees at the University of Iowa in Iowa City on Friday. Sally Bartels, Ronald Crooks, and Linda Jackson, all children of local parents, received degrees at the State College of Iowa in Cedar Falls on Thursday evening. Sally earned a BA in Speech, Ronald a BA in Social Science, and Linda a BA in Elementary Education.
Dennis Brinkman of Charles City was charged with illegal parking in front of the fire station. He was fined $10 and $400 costs.
Miler Tyan Nelson born September 24 1901 in Winnebago County died June 7 at University Hospital Iowa City after lingering illness. He worked 27 years for Rock Island Railroad and lived in Greene since 1932. Survived by wife Lillian, three children Richard Sharon Irene, and Charlotte from former marriage, two sisters, three brothers. funeral Tuesday at Williams Mortuary Greene with Rev I J Devies. Burial Rose Hill Cemetery.
Clarence Shultz suffered a heart attack and was rushed to Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City Thursday morning. He is expected to stay hospitalized for about three weeks for recovery and monitoring.
Richard D. Backer and Jimms G. Anthony of Greene Iowa enlisted in the Marine Corps May 28 under the Buddy Program. Backer will serve three years and Anthony four years. They begin with 80 days at San Diego and four weeks at Camp Pendleton before first leave.
Federal court action in Fargo seeks $4 million from the government over rulings in a federal income tax case. The Heasleys, Fay and wife, claim damages arising from tax decisions. The suit names three federal judges and notes a prison term served by Heasley.

Leslie Barnhart received word Monday morning of the sudden death of his brother Russell 72, at his Sunnyvale home in California. Death was due to a heart attack. He leaves wife Edna Watterson Greene, three sons and one daughter. Funeral and burial services are in Sunnyvale today.
