Carolyn Kehoe Margaret Sen ne and Ann Rottler report arrival at Sand Point Idaho for the Girl Scout Round-up after leaving Mason City and boarding a special train car in St Paul. They spent a day on the train and Thursday at Glacier National Park meeting Black Foot Indians before reaching the 30 mile distant campsite where state songs greeted them. They look forward to weeklong activities.
The summer program continues its fifth week with children making piggy banks on Monday and crafting animal and farm building planters. Supervisor Sharon Nixt notes pool opening reduced attendance, with help from Mrs. Merlyn Parks, Mrs. Gary Beck, Jeanette Tefft, and Ann Hansen assisting this past week.
The Butler County Board of Education approved a 1966 budget of 82,425, up from 73,175 in 1965. General Control and Supervision account for 28.5 percent, Capital Outlay and repair and Fixed Charges for 44 percent, services for schools at 67.1 percent. Special services include a Special Education Director, Psychologist, Speech Therapist, Guidance Coordinator and Counselor, two special class teachers, and a central unit. A 4,000 increase funds establishing an Area Post High School Vocational Technical program, the county’s share in starting the school. The board justifies the higher cost and new items as expanding education for youth and adults.
Mrs. Mary Ellen McCracken 83 died last Wednesday at Clark Nursing Home Greene after a year there. Born August 13 1831 to James and Nancy Pringle in Butler County rural area. Married Clarence McCrecken April 27 1904. farmed Greene community forty years then retired to Greene twenty five years ago. Lifelong Christian Church of Greene member and 53 year Rebekah lodge member with chivalry degree. Survivors: husband Clarence brother Elmer Pringle Shell Rock and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Friday 2:00 PM Church of Christ Greene Rev G F Butler officiating. Burial Rose Hill Cemetery. Reid's Funeral Chapel in charge.
Mrs Richard Ott of Greene and George Ben inga of Greene each matched their car license number to a display at local businesses last week and won $5. Ott matched at B and W Food Market while Ben inga matched at Klassi Motors.
Corn Belt Power Cooperative and four other suppliers announced a plan to construct an 161000 volt transmission link from Spencer Iowa to Heron Lake Minnesota with terminal facilities. The project, costing over 1.25 million dollars, targets completion by July 1 1966 and will boost regional electric capacity and strengthen interconnections among participants.
Jim Marshall and Marvin Moser finished fourth and fifth in the stock car consolation race at Nashua on Saturday evening.
The Little Leaguers secure first place in the Shell Rock Valley League for the seventh straight year with an 11 to 5 win over host Rockford. Babe Ruth also stays in second with a 7 to 1 victory as Greene and Shultz dominate on the mound and in the field.
Butler County moves to remove fences within road rights of way. Public roads rules ban electric and barbed fences that threaten drivers or livestock. Officials say fences near roads distract motorists and may cause obstructions, warranting removal to keep roads safe.
Max Dougherty announced Greene Community Pool’s Sunday opening with a Kiddie Pool area and no admission charge. Parents are responsible for children. baskets not provided. New hours: 1:15 to 4:13 p.m. and 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. daily with adult swim time 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Fridays and potential 11 p.m. adult nights depending on turnout.
Mrs Raymond Veries is back home from St Marys Hospital in Rochester Minnesota after undergoing surgery last week.

Wendy Stuntz pitched a strong game allowing one earned run on four hits, striking out nine. The rally began when a third baseman reached on a wild pitch and scored on a passed ball to put her team ahead.
Florence Woodling 78 died at her home in Greene after a long illness. Born January 17, 1887 in Greene she married Homer C. in 1908 and farmed before moving to town. She leaves a son Mari of Chico California. daughters Thelma Barr Treton Washington and Mione Jones San Diego. eight grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Methodist church chapel.
Butler County Summer School students display work at the REC Building in Allison from 7:00 to 9:30 p m on Friday July 23. Water color sculpture and design projects will be shown along with English themes and Field Biology pieces like pressed plants and mounted small animals. Teachers will be available for conferences.
About 120 representatives from NIAD Area counties and districts attended a Mason City gathering July 15 to hear B H Graeber of the Iowa Department of Public Instruction discuss the Town Act enabling area vocational schools or area community colleges. He urged swift action by County Boards with local support, outlined 15 plan requirements, and noted NIAD districts spanning Winnebago Mitchell Floyd Cerro Gordo Hancock Franklin Greene Butler Wright should pursue an area school. Leslie Classic, NIAD Education Committee chair, said ten data items are already complete and offered free access to County Boards. the committee would assist further.
Mr. and Mrs. James McLennan and sons Jimmy and Mark Albrecht returned from a week at Red Lake Ontario Canada. They said the fishing was good but the weather was cold and rainy. On the way home they stopped in Bloomington Minnesota last Sunday to see the Angels Twins game.
The 109th Butler County Fair kicks off at Allison on Thursday July 29 and runs through August 5 with entry day activities from 9 to 9, 4‑H and FFA junior horse show at 2, rodeo events for ages 8–17, parade in the evening, and numerous livestock, floral, and craft shows. Over 8750 in prizes planned. Butler County winner to Des Moines.
The Greene Recorders announce closure from August 2 to August 7. The recorder office will cooperate with readers needing services and will be in the office by Friday morning July 30 for arrangements.
Mr and Mrs Jim Kline of Waterloo welcomed a daughter born July 1 at Alen Memorial Hospital weighing 8 pounds 4 ounces. The baby was named Diane An nette. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Dan Busse of Tipton and Mr and Mrs W L Kline.
Mrs. Thomas Stanton and her daughters Jennifer and Tracy returned to Northridge, California, after visiting Minneapolis relatives and staying two weeks at the home of Mrs. A. L. Stanton, with Bernita, Charles, and other relatives in Ber nita.
Fire destroyed a large barn cattle granary pony barn riding shed brooder house chicken house garage and feed house on the James Oltmann farm southeast of Allison last Thursday afternoon. Firemen from Allison Clarksville and Dumont kept flames under control. one firefighter Vernon Harrs suffered a minor burn.
Tuesday night games featured the Reds edging the White Sox 3 1 as Warren Johnson earned the win. Kent Jacobson triple paced the big inning but was tagged out at home. Jimmy McLennan and Paul Anderson each had two hits. Dodgers beat Twins 7 2 behind Dick Stuntz pitching, Mark Albrecht homered, with Greg Willey and Bill Astor adding two base hits.
