Mrs Fred Petterson was taken to Floyd County Veteran's Memorial Hospital in Charles City Sunday for treatment.
The Women's City Golf Tournament will be held at Round Grove Golf and Country Club on Wednesday August 3. Coffee is served at 7 30 a m with tee off at 8 a m. Nine holes in the morning, luncheon at noon, then nine holes of golf and bridge in the afternoon. Entries to Mrs Lyle Shultz by Saturday July 30.
A blonde portable altar and a Cross and Bible stand were dedicated at the First Presbyterian Church during Sunday School on July 24 as a memorial to Laurie Ann Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Galen Miller. The articles will be used in the worship center for primary and intermediate Sunday School classes in the downstairs rooms.

The wedding dance for Mr and Mrs Carl Frascht scheduled for next Friday evening July 29 is canceled due to the Riviera Ballroom owner's death. It will be rescheduled for a later date.
The Women’s Club lessons ended Tuesday morning with a tournament at the Country Club. Instructor Greg Drakle and Tim Heidenwirth taught 26 children basics and etiquette. Paul Kelly was medalist with Kent Jacobson, Chris Jewell, and Patsy Kelly among the winners.
The Greene Ramblers beat Nora Springs 4 to 1 on Friday to tie Rockford for first in the Corn Bowl Conference. Sutton allowed three hits while Nora Springs Eagles had Andersons double as their lone hit. Greene scored two runs in the 4th and two in the 6th with Hagarty Trees and Fischer adding singles.
Mr. and Mrs. William Steere Jr. announce their son Charles W. Steere has been promoted to Sp 4. He will be stationed at Fort Carson Colorado with Company A 2nd Battalion Mech 61st Infantry 5th Division Mech. His new address is US 55837386 Fort Carson CO 80913.
All baseball players or fathers who wish to attend the Minnesota Twins versus Baltimore Orioles game in Bloomington Minnesota on Saturday July 30 must submit permission slips or notify Jerry Eimers at 823-4671. Buses depart school house at 7 30 a m with sack lunches advised. Ride back planned to Greene with arrival between 8 30 and 9 00 p m. Little Leaguers may wear t shirts and ball caps if they wish.
Connie Leavens of Greene as Butler County Fair Queen candidate will compete for the state title at the Iowa State Fair in August. The pageant occurs Monday August 1 at 7 30 PM on the grandstand, with Patricia Shaw leading the procession of convertibles.
Entries are still needed for the open class market barrow show sponsored by the Butler County Swine Producer's Association and the Butler County Fair. Each exhibitor may enter up to two live barrows and one carcass entry, with a $2 per head fee and carcass entry required. Ronald Litterer completed basic training at Lackland and attends Sheppard AFB school as an air freight specialist. Gary Litterer, a diesel mechanic on a water barge, is stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. Both are sons of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Litterer.
Entries for the Butler County Corn Yield Contest will be accepted until Friday July 29 per Kay A. Connelly county extension director. Entry fee is $10 per applicant and can be made at the Extension office in Allison. The contest area must be at least 10 acres in size. Contact the Extension office at Allison for details.
Private Lawrence Wihlm, son of Mr and Mrs Alphonse Wihlm, has completed a 14 day furlough and returned to Fort Leonard Wood Missouri for eight weeks of advanced training following time with his parents.
Ira Thomas 63 died at his home in Greene Monday night from a coronary attack born September 28 1902 in Greene to Arthur and Bertha Thomas. He married Ellen Habermann June 12 1932 and lived in Greene. Survived by wife three daughters including Dorothy Helen Knight and Marjorie all of Pomona California, son Roger Duluth Minnesota, two grandchildren, mother Bertha Thomas, two sisters and a brother. Funeral Friday July 29 at 2:00 PM Church of Christ. Burial Rose Hill Cemetery. Reid's Funeral Chapel in charge.
Mr and Mrs Marvin Harrah of La Porte City announce the birth of a daughter Connie Marie born Sunday July 24 at Schultz Hospital Waterloo. She has two brothers Brad and Mitchell. Mrs Harrah is the former Alta Rover, daughter of Mr and Mrs Herman Rover.
John L. Stock and Gordon A. Sneed enlisted in the Navy. They left last week and are undergoing nine weeks of boat training at the Naval Training Center in San Diego California. Their addresses list their ranks, service numbers, and San Diego as the base.
Pvt Merlin D Schuknecht US 55889148 completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri. He spent fourteen days leave with his parents Mr and Mrs Elwin Schuknecht then returned to Fort Leonard Wood for further schooling in communications.
Dale Willey announced the men’s invitational golf tournament will be held at the local Country Club next Saturday July 30. Some 160 golfers entered from California and towns including Charles City Waverly Cedar Falls Hampton Dumont Rockford Parkersburg Fairbanks Garner Reinbeck and Waterloo.
Tom Green, son of Mr and Mrs Harry Green, won the Men's City Golf Tournament at the local Country Club. He defeated John McRoberts in the final 1 up after a birdie 3 on the 27th hole. Green path to the final included byes and wins over Daryl Fischer Bob Curtis Dave Everds and George Sneed while McRoberts beat Nordmeyer Lester Frascht Willey and Dralle to reach the final.
Eight hundred twenty five entries have been made by 4 H and FFA members in the Floyd County Agricultural and Industry Days junior achievement show to be held August 14 at the fairgrounds west of Charles City. New divisions include photography entomology and dog obedience.Agronomy projects will be judged in the field and at the show with a carcass class for beef and swine. Dave McCracken leads field judging with entries due August 1 from 6 00 a m to 12 00 noon and judging runs daily through Wednesday. Meat animal sale set for Thursday.
Beryl N. Needham is a patient at Floyd County Veteran's Hospital after a major operation. Ellis Bammann was admitted to St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital in Mason City Monday morning following a heart attack and had just been discharged on July 3 after weeks of heart treatment.
Louise Romer a 16 year old Riceville resident was being returned to Osage on parole violation charges when she escaped the Mitchell County Sheriff at 2:00 am near the T and M Citgo Station in Greene. A girl fitting her description was later seen walking south of Greene and is believed to be in the Marshalltown area.
Mr and Mrs Pat Touchae toured Butler County on Thursday campaigning for the Democratic nomination to represent Iowa 3rd District. He faced Henry J Stoffer of Sheffield with H R Gross as the Republican incumbent awaiting the general election in November. About 50 locals attended a coffee at the Ramker home.
The group from Emmetsburg led by Mrs. George Leonard traveled to Yellowstone National Park then to Washington, Oregon and Utah visiting notable sights. On the return route they stopped in Denver to visit the Leonard family.
The Butler County Fair starts Thursday in Allison and runs through Monday August 1. Highlights include saddle horse show, free acts, auto thrill show, animal scrambles, horse races, tractor pull, home talent show, soil conservation queen, fair queen, and a two-tournament horseshoe contest with winners receiving travel funds to the State Horseshoe contest. Talent auditions produced 20 numbers for the Venita Rich Talent Contest with a New York City audition reward. many local entrants listed from Allison and surrounding towns.
Fred Anderson was discharged to his Charles City home Saturday after undergoing surgery at Floyd County Veterans Memorial Hospital.
U S Senator George L Murphy will headline a Des Moines Republican fund raiser at Veterans Memorial Auditorium on September 17. Tickets are 100 per plate to aid Iowa Republicans in November elections. Murphy, a former Broadway star and two time SAG president, drew attention in 1964 by defeating Pierre Salinger for the Senate.
Local league play Tuesday July 19 saw the Yankees top the Braves 10 to 5 to forge a first place tie. The Dodgers edged the Orioles 6 to 5 while the Indians shut out the Giants 5 to 0. Key hits came from Willey Trees and Schoenfeld with notable pitching debut by Landers for the Dodgers and Anderson for the Indians. Final standings follow.
Charles City resident Richard R. Schultz was charged with careless driving in the mayor's court. He received a $15.00 fine and $400.00 in costs, with $5.00 of the fine suspended.
