Albert C. Norman 70 died at his Riceville home after a months illness. Survived by his wife, one son Clifford of Saratoga, seven daughters and several grandchildren. Services at St Peter's Lutheran Elma at 2:00 PM with burial in Saratoga cemetery.
The Iowa Crop and Livestock Reporting Service shows NIAD counties produced 81,275,600 bushels of corn and 13,509 bushels of soybeans in 1965. Butler County led with 88 bushels per acre, Franklin had the largest total corn, and soybeans per acre averaged 26 in Butler and Franklin with Wright and Hancock close behind.
Mr and Mrs James Menken of Greene welcomed a son born Monday August 1 at Floyd County Veterans Memorial Hospital Charles City weighing 7 pounds 15 ounces. The baby named Tory Jay has a sister Tammy aged 5 and a brother Troy aged 4 at home.
Mr and Mrs Russell Frascht Debra and Miss Marilyn Herman visit their son Scott Frascht at Lowry Air Force Base near Denver Colorado. Scott recently completed basic training and is now enrolled in 16 weeks of weapons ammunition school at Lowry AFB.
A total of 36635.12 was grossed at the annual 44H and FFA Baby Beef Sale held Monday morning August 1 at the Butler County Fairgrounds. One hundred forty nine calves were sold for an average of 26.50 per cwt. Average weight was 927 pounds. Buyers and purchasers include Waverly Sale Company 30 calves and State Bank of Greene 15 among many others. Auctioneers listed: Arnold Hexom, Terry Schrage, Heine Uhlenhopp, Bud Mennenga, Gale Wiebke, Don Roose, and Sander Uhlenhopp.
A report in the Iowa Business Digest notes manufacturing in Towa is dispersed across all counties with a tendency to cluster in small communities. NIAD counties average 63 dollars return per 100 dollars of state taxes, with Butler and Hancock at 71, and Cerro Gordo at 37, reflecting varied aid from school funds to liquor store profits.

Osage defender Gene Paar captured his second straight amateur crown at Round Grove Golf and Country Club. He totaled 101 for 27 holes, a course record, with Cedar Falls’s Bob Davis runner up at 103 and Butch Holland of Waverly third at 106. First flight winner was Bill Kahler of Waterloo at 74, and nine flight champions were crowned with scores ranging from 74 to 93. Medalist was Bob Davis. 160 entries competed. Also noted is Pvt Thomas E Lewis graduating from Fort Gordon and reporting to Fort Dix before shipping to Germany, with a new APO address.

Joe Jonanssen has returned home after cataract surgery on his left eye at St Josephs Mercy Hospital in Mason City and will return for a checkup next Monday. Clair Starkweather, longtime patient at St Josephs Mercy, has left the hospital after five weeks and returned home Tuesday morning. Ellis Bammann came home Saturday after a week of treatment at St Josephs Mercy Hospital in Mason City.
Representing Butler Soil Conservation District Miss Joyce Ann Bienemann of Clarksville and Miss Linda Klahsen of Aplington are the district queens. They were named at the Butler County Fair and will vie in the Regional Queen of Conservation contest in Charles City on August 3. The regional winners receive a wrist watch. the state winner earns 250 dollars and serves as hostess at the National Soil Conservation Districts Field Day near Jefferson on September 8–9, 1966.
A family gathering was held for Private Gary L. Kielman US 55889833 A ASPA Company 4th Platoon 3d Tag Battalion 2d Training Brigade Fort Bliss Texas 799146. Kielman recently departed for military service on July 11.

Steve Hildebrand son of Mr and Mrs Dale Hildebrand won first place with his heifer calf and the junior showmanship award at the Brown Swiss Breeders show in Charles City. He will show his prize heifer at the Iowa State Fair from August 14 to 18.
The Braves defeated the Yankees 6 to 4 on July 19 in a playoff decision that closed the Little League season. Galen Miller led with a 3 run first inning after Joe Shultz homered with Mark Miller and Terry Dougherty aboard. the Yankees mounted a late rally but fell short as Joe Shultz and solid defense sealed the win.
Airman Ronald S. Litterer, son of Mr and Mrs Leonard F Litterer, has been chosen for technical training at Sheppard AFB Texas as a U S Air Force transportation specialist after completing basic training at Lackland AFB Texas. He graduated Greene Community High School in 1965.
Butler County reaches 56 percent of its 1966 bond quota with six month sales totaling 456 534 dollars. June sales amount to 71276 dollars while the state shares show June 8929528 dollars in Series E and H bonds, up 20 percent from June 1965. County savings bonds chairman John McWhirter of Allison reports midwest leading performance.
The one hundred and tenth Butler County Fair ended in Allison after a five day run with over 27 000 in attendance. Receipts topped the 1956 centennial record by more than 500 dollars. Grand Champion beef was shown by Mark Schrage with an 870 pound Shorthorn. reserve by Mike Alberts. Champion Angus went to Michael Behnke. reserve to Elaine Ackerman. Hereford champ was Jacque Roose. reserve to Mark Schrage. Senior showmanship winner was Steve Schrage. Tim Schrage was junior runner up. Seven 4 H clubs showed top five baby beeves with West Point first, Dayton second, Coldwater third. Numerous blue ribbons were awarded across Angus Hereford and Shorthorn entries. Carol Lindaman of Bristow was crowned Butler County fair queen after representing Allison in the contest. Christine Severson of New Hartford was runner-up. Lindaman is a Allison High School graduate who attended Bethel College in St Paul last year and will represent Butler County in the Town State Fair queen contest later this month.
The 61st Iowa summer picnic will be at Recreation Park Long Beach California on Saturday August 13. Harry Ruffridge a former Greene resident will introduce the officers and directors of the Iowa Association of Long Beach. Ruffridge is president of the group.
The Babe Ruth team fell 3 to 2 to Nora Springs in eight innings in the Babe Ruth tournament semi final at Nora Springs. Greene drove in two runs, Steve Schuknecht delivered key hits, and Rich Siemers held the visitors to limited scoring before leaving with an 8th inning loss. Nora Springs edged Rudd 5 to 1 in the final to win the title as Greene claimed consolation glory with a 12 to 0 win over Nashua earlier in the night.
LeRoy Taylor underwent surgery on Thursday at the Floyd County Veterans Memorial Hospital in Charles City. The procedure and condition were described in concise local notices, with no further details provided.
Greene County 4-Hers dominated Floyd County Junior Achievement Show at Charles City. Diane Stauffer earned a purple ribbon for a Holstein heifer calf while Dave Kock won a blue ribbon and Mary Stauffer a red ribbon. Dave Kock also took a blue in the Holstein yearling class. Marble Rock pair Larry Litterer and Neil Wedeking received blue for Guernsey heifer calves. Steve Hildebrand earned purple for Brown Swiss two-year-old and calf, red for Brown Swiss yearling, and first in junior showmanship.
Mrs. Lillian Bisenious 79 died Tuesday at Floyd Hospital Charles City after a long illness. Born August 10 1885 at Cascade daughter of Peter and Elizabeth Krenar. Survived by husband Charles two daughters five grandchildren nine great grandchildren. Rosary Wednesday and Thursday at 8 pm Reid's Marble Rock.
