The Greene Junior Legion defeated Thornton 9 to 2 on the local diamond. Nile Myers pitched effectively, allowing 5 hits and 1 walk. Ramblers had 8 base hits including a two run homer by Rattler with Klunder aboard, plus Marsh a triple and Klunder a double. The Ramblers visit Thornton again today and host Aplington on Thursday, July 28 for the season finale.
W F Dralle son of Mr and Mrs Fred Dralle has completed his Primary Flight Training at Saufhey Field Pensacola Florida He was among seven students in the class to qualify for jet Flight Training and is now stationed at VT 7 NLA AS Kingsville Texas
Butler County arrests shown for July 23 include George Luesenhop 74 of Shell Rock charged with intoxication. he pled guilty in Greene J P Court and paid fines. Curtis Goodsell 24 of Eldora charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. bond set at 500, he held in County Jail after failing to furnish bond. Duane Goodell 39 of Eldora, passenger, pleaded guilty to intoxication with minor fines. Clarence Hovenga 22 of Aplington charged with two counts of operating while intoxicated and driving with license suspended. bond set at 500 each, he is held in Allison jail.
Florence Mae Sproul died July 10 at St Christophers Hospital in Long Beach California after months of illness. Born September 24 1879 in Iowa she married Oliver H Sproul. They moved to Greene Iowa then California in 1923. Survivors include daughter Pearl Peffley sister Mabel Packard granddaughter two great grandsons and cousin Lillian Cole. Funeral July 13 at Mottells Peek Chapel Long Beach burial Sunnyside Gardens Long Beach. She was a longtime Rebekah and charter member of Westside Grandmothers Club No 396.
The Greene Community Band directed by Mr. Ray Holtz earned a trophy for marching in Oelwein on July 25 as part of the three day Oelwein Daily Days celebration. Governor Herschel Love less rode in the parade and attended a luncheon at Hotel Mealy with city officials and band sponsors.

Six Butler County farmers have entered the Iowa Master Corn Growers Contest for this fall. Entrants must file by 12:00 noon Saturday July 30 at the County Extension Office in Allison, as signatures are required on the entry form. Growers exceeding 100 bushels per acre will be recognized.

A large crowd gathered at the Winnebago Boy Scout Council Reservation in Marble Rock for a Sunday dedication ceremony despite schedule glitches. Governor Herschel Loveless arrived late due to plane trouble and landed six miles away. local youths aided his transport. The program featured remarks by Scouts leaders, dedication acts by officials, and the display of the first 50 star flag to fly over the Capitol, secured with Congressman Schwengel’s help, followed by a grounds tour.

David Schukneeat, son of Mr and Mrs Elwin Schukencht, returned home Tuesday July 19 from Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City after undergoing surgery for injuries from a fall from a trailer at his home.
J P Knight's Court Leon Williamson of Greene fined $7.50 for profane language plus $8.50 costs. William Richard Von Seggan of Clear Lake fined $5.00 and $4.00 costs for expired license. Clear Lake resident fined $20 for improper registration with $34.00 costs. George Luesentiop of Sheil Rock cited for intoxication with $15.00 fine and $12.50 costs. Mayor Kelly's Court Bruce Faber Maier of Greene fined $25.00 for disturbing the peace with a car and $490 costs.
Kate Brunner, a resident of Rest Home, underwent surgery for a fractured left hip at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City and was later transferred to Harris Rest Home in Marble Rock.
The Cleveland Indians edged the Milwaukee Braves 7 to 6 and the New York Yankees defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates in Little League games played Tuesday evening, July 19. Lynn Gabe pitched a one hit inning for the Indians while Steve Stuntz caught. Marty Bramer struck out nine for the Braves and Doug Trees belted a game winning blow, with a two on base triple. John Barth helped the Yankees win with a bases loaded triple in extra innings. Jerry Fischer added a triple with one on. Buffridge fanned nine and Tom Johnson was catcher. Greg Drakle struck out ten for the Pirates and also produced a two on base triple. Mike Majuwski was catcher.
The sixth and final week of the Recreational Park program run by the Women's Club features Mrs. Donald Bachman leading with a team of helpers. Western Day with cowboys and Indians included a pony and cart ride, Pet Day judges, and a watermel on feast planned for Thursday. Butler County residents bought 54541 in U S savings bonds in June, pushing six month total to 637607, or 56 percent of the 1960 quota. Towns averaged 41 percent while the national average was 49 percent. John McWhirter of Allison, county chairman, said Iowa June sales of Series E and H bonds totaled over 89 million, producing a first half state total of 78705172.

The Invitational Golf Tournament will be held next Sunday July 31 at Round Grove Golf and Country Club. A total of 124 entries come from New Hartford Northwood Parkersburg Allison Hampton Waverly Sheffield Traer Humboldt Cedar Falls Charles City Ackley Washburn Cedar Rapids and Greene. Notable entrants include Ed Droste and Jim Lynch of Waverly and Dale Kniss of Waterloo.
The Babe Ruth League defeated Nora Springs 9 to 8 and Floyd 6 to 0 to extend its winning streak to eight games. The Little League saw its 14 game run end with a 3 to 2 loss to Nora Springs, then rebounded with a 9 to 7 win over Floyd. Nora Springs threatened late in the Babe Ruth game, rallying for three runs in the final inning.
In Hospital Bill Van Horn, mayor of Are dale, was taken by ambulance to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota on Monday for treatment of a blood clot. Maude Landis of 1302 South Street, Waterloo, is a patient in the Scholtz Hospital with a fractured right hip. She is a former resident of Greene.
All Little Leaguers Babe Ruth Leaguers and Junior Legion players will leave from the bus barn for Waterloo on Friday July 29 at 3 30 sharp. All fathers who wish to accompany the lads to see the Waterloo White Hawks in action are welcome.
Mr and Mrs Vivian Ingery left Thursday for a fishing trip joining Mr and Mrs Homer Merfeld at Cloquet Minnesota. They traveled to the Lake Winnibigoshish area to fish in Big Cut Foot Little Cut Foot and The Williams Nerrows. They returned home on Sunday evening.
A new adult section book titled The Splendid Misery by Jack Bell explores conflicts and complexities involving U S presidents from Washington to Eisenhower.
