The Greene High school marching band enters the Oelwein Dairy Festival parade on Monday July 25 with check in at 9 00 am parade at 9 30 am. Dressing rooms lunch provided rehearsals set for Wednesday and Friday at 7 00 pm band director Ray Holtz requests all who can attend be present.

Greene Public Library adds several new titles across fiction and non fiction. Notable historical novels include A Distant Trumpet by Paul Horgan and Carrington by Michael Straight, both revisiting early Westward episodes. Also added are Mrs Sherman’s Summer, Abel’s Daughter, Pilgrims in Paradise, The Dedicated, and Interesting People profiles.
The Little League and Babe Ruth League teams each won two games last week. The Little Leaguers extended their winning streak to 13 and 14 with 11 3 over Rudd and 13 2 over Rockford. The Babe Ruth squad beat Rudd 2 1 and Rockford 11 8, with notable hits from Hagarty, Fischer, Bramer, Drable and Poppe.

New residents Mr. and Mrs. Lowell McGee welcomed an 8 pound 554 ounce son Jeffrey Lowell at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City on July 16. James Osier and wife Julie Diane born July 18 at Cedar Valley Hospital, weighed 8 pounds 14 ounces. Jim Graven and wife welcomed a son July 15 at Mercy Hospital in Waverly weighing 8 pounds 1 ounce. grandparents listed.
Sixty children attended the Woman's Club summer playground program last week at the Youth Center due to rain at the park. Mrs Keith Drake supervised with assistants including Mrs Dale Mc Roberts and Mrs Max Weyand. Craft projects used lumber donated by Maxson Frodden Lumber Co and Rita Kepple showed ceramic pieces. Dodge ball and soft ball dominated games. next week Mrs Donald Bachman leads ideas and materials. Pet Day set for Wednesday July 27 with prizes from judges.
Carol Deane Brandt, daughter of Mr and Mrs Donald J Brandt of Des Moines, was baptized during morning services at First Presbyterian Church on Sunday. Elder Fred Koerner assisted at the baptism of his granddaughter.
Butler County residents aged eighteen and over may receive a free chest x ray over the next two weeks via a mobile unit visiting Greene and other towns. The program, sponsored by the Butler County Tuberculosis and Health Association, runs through August 2 with multiple stops and no charge to participants.
Greene Ramblers defeated Franklin Consoli 11 to 2 in round two at Sheffield, then lost to Rockwell 12 to 5 in the sectional final. Doug Marsh allowed four hits. Larry Gabe hit two triples. Nile Myers doubled. Harry Barth walked four times. Rockwell totaled 13 hits aided by Sturges homer and Marsh and Myers pitching.
Mixed League results show Hits and Mrs and Rusty Rollers leading in several matchups. High scores include Wayne Fischer 520 for Hits and Mrs and Barbara Stock 171 in Hi Lo s. Team No 2 and G Jays contest in Friday Night Mixes with high scores by Dawn Cheney 465 and Paul Hamilton 71. Party Bowling awards went to Tane Kretasehmar and Mary Byers with top scores for the week.
The Round Grove Golf and Country Club hosts the July family picnic on Thursday July 21 at 6 30 PM. Dwight Pooley and Dale Schroeder head the committee with Mrs. Pooley and Mrs. Schroeder assisting.
The 360 acre Winnebago fabble oil Scout Reservation at Marble Rock will be dedicated Sunday July 24. It replaces Camp Roosevelt at Clear Lake, now too small. Buildings and a swimming pool have been completed for tours, with the Rudd band concert at 2:00 pm and dedication at 2:30 pm. Services will be held at 11:00 am at the south end.
Winners at the Greene Bucks drawing held Saturday evening include Mrs. Ray Tindall, Charles Pyatt, Mildred Ruzicka, John Johnson, Gerald Hildebrand, Karen Wegand, Martha Schmidt, Mrs. Ernest Botterbrodt, Mrs. Basil Johnson, and Ardis Broadstone each winning $5.00, with Lowell Jorges receiving $10.00.
Donald Harris, chairman of the Butler Soil Conservation District, reports about 150 farmers applied for conservation help in 1960 despite unfavorable conditions. Notable achievements include 3 acres waterways, 500 acres contouring, 1 mile terraces, 84,000 feet of tile drains, 40 acres tree planting, and 5 acres headland seeding. Plans include Queen of Conservation contest, a county fair banquet, and a plowing match near Clarksville.
Greene Ramblers beat the Charles City Junior Legion B team 8 to 0 last Wednesday behind no hit pitching by Larry Gabe. Only three batters reached first base, all by walks, as Greene tallied two runs on Roger Hoel and six on Dave Steinkamp in relief. Marsh produced three runs via four plate appearances.
Visiting Parents St. and Airs. Curtis Kent and their son from Triangle Virginia will stay two weeks with Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Kyhl in Parkersburg and with Mr. and Mrs. Everett Squires in Greene.
Mr and Mrs Harold Hansen and sons Alan David and Carl from Harrisburg Milneis visited Alice Hansen's family for a weekend. Also present were Arthur and Mrs Hansen of Clinton and Mrs Alice Hansen. Guests joined Sunday at Lyle Shultz home with Galen Martzahn Wendy Debra Kathy and others.
The Greene Woman’s Club hosts an August flower show at the High School Auditorium with classes A to E for arrangements and ribbons. Guest speaker Rev Frank Jertberg from Natal Brazil will speak July 24 at Calvary Baptist Church, with entries accepted 9 to 10:30 a.m. and no ribbon in Class A.
Rev and Mrs Clayton Becker departed Tuesday for a several weeks vacation at their Barrington cottage in Illinois. Church speakers announced for upcoming Sundays include Rev Robert Devies of Plainfield July 24, H Vv Streyffeler of Clear Lake July 31 and Dr Ronald Masters of Mason City August 7.
Local summer baseball players from Little League Babe Ruth League Local League or Junior Legion are invited to Waterloo White Hawks events on Friday July 29. Demonstrations begin at 4 00 pm followed by the White Hawks vs Keokuk game at 8 00 pm. No charge for game or clinic. buses provided. Mr and Mrs William Ramker of Greene returned home after a two week visit that took them to Chicago Illinois to see their daughter Myrna Riehle and her family and to Vandalia to see Mrs Ramkers ailing father George Blankenship. They also visited Ramkers brother Charles Blankenship and sister Mrs J M Spires in Decatur Illinois.

Overnight guests Mr and Mrs Harold Higgins and their daughter from Arlington Virginia visited the Will Cheney home and called on Mrs Higgins grandmother Mrs Clay Thorpe during their stay.
Visiting Here Mr and Mrs Raymond Cheney and family of Troy Ohio are spending this week in the home of his father Will Cheney and his brother Paul and family with relatives and friends attending the visit.
Henry Smeins and Bruce Glass led 37 Boy Scouts of Troop Noa Greene to the Boy Scout Reservation near Marble Rock. They spent time at camp earning merit badges in swimming rifling nature pioneering archery arts handicrafts cooking and more. Half the troop advanced one rank and many earned badges through activities and outdoor living.
Mrs. Kenneth Bumgardner and Mrs. W. E. Miller of Waverly visited Frank Freeman and his sister and brother in law Mr. and Mrs. Harold Kingery last Friday, sharing a social call at the Freeman residence.
