The Woman's Club summer program for area children ends its season after a highly valued effort by all involved. Supervisors, assistants, chaperones, and local merchants are thanked for making the community’s children busy and safe through the summer. The Recorder wraps up a vacation issue, with Greene cited for cooperative support from local merchants.
The Junior Legion finished the season with eight wins and four losses. They lost to Thornton 5 to 2 on Wednesday and Thursday evening, then beat Aplington 3 to 1 to avenge an earlier 1 to 0 defeat. Greene, Barth, Myers and Marsh starred on offense and defense.
Mr and Mrs Harold Hansen of Cedar Falls bought the Truex Cafe and Tavern from Mr and Mrs Glenn Truex. Possession was given Monday August 1. The Hansens, Greene restaurant veterans of 21 years, will reside in their Maple Street home with their child in the rear apartment. Mrs Hansen is a former Greene resident and daughter of Mr and Mrs H H Miller.
A cVD breakfast will be held at Round Grove Golf and Country Club on Sunday August 7 from 7 00 to 9 30 a m. Those in charge are W L Klassi Harold Allison Ralph Marsh Jim Drakle Clyde Stuntz Francis Knapp and Darrell Davis.
Reverend Marlin L Rayburn former Greene Baptist pastor and current Grace Baptist Church pastor in Flint Michigan will speak at the morning service of Calvary Baptist Church on Sunday August 7 He is among speakers for Family Camps at Regular Baptist Camp Clear Lake August 1 14 Since leaving Greene he has served in Flint and will greet old friends at worship with Mrs Rayburn.
Beth Knight daughter of Mr and Mrs Francis Knight of Madison Wisconsin will graduate from St Marys Hospital School of Nursing in Madison on Sunday August 7 Frank Knight plans to attend the commencement and visit with his son and family Knight family formerly lived in Greene
Mr and Mrs Raymond LaCoste are the parents of a son born Thursday morning July 28. The baby weighed seven pounds three and a half ounces.

The 1960 Floyd County Junior Achievement Show reduces show days from five to four. Entry day is August 8 with rabbit poultry garden crops agronomy woodworking pigeons and electrical projects judged from 1 00 p m. Pony and colt judging begins August 10 at 3 00 p m. Beef cattle dairy lambs and swine judging runs August 9 10 with sale of meat animals starting August 11 at 9 60 a m. Release time is 4 00 p m August 11.

Eight Butler County farm girls compete for Iowa 1960 Queen of Conservation. District contest August 8 at 7 30 p m at Butler County Fair. Two finalists advance to Clayton County Fair August 20 with regional winner advancing to state contest September 15 at Guthrie Center. State winner receives wardrobe and hosts duties.
The 104th Butler County Fair launches in Allison this Friday August 8 running through Monday with three days of entertainment. Entry day Friday 9 AM to 9 PM floral entries due by 6 PM, over $5,000 in premiums. Horse show and races on Saturday and Sunday with prizes of $400.09 daily. A wide slate of free acts, vaudeville style performances, and a Children’s Day Monday.
Des Moines governor Herschel C. Loveless proclaims August as Iowa Industry Month to honor the growth of industrial production in the state. He urges Iowans to support industry alongside agriculture to boost jobs and balance the economy, noting a 150 percent rise in industrial output over 11 years and an above national growth rate.
The Indians defeated the Pirates 11 to 0 on Tuesday evening to claim their fifth straight win. Gabe pitched a no hitter for the Indians, with Kingery hitting two triples and Doug Willey delivering a triple, double, and single. Steve Stuntz caught, while Greg Drakle and Tom Hagarty pitched. Pirates catcher Mike Majewski and two-hit pitcher John Barth for the Yankees were also highlighted, as Ruffridge added base-stealing support.

The Greene Commercial Club hosts a Sunday speed boat regatta presented by the Mid States Racing Association featuring 12 races with top hydroplane and runabout drivers. Notables include Ken Krier and Lew Nichols with a strong field from Iowa Nebraska South Dakota Minnesota and Kansas. The event opens August 7 at 1 00 pm with free admission and an action packed three hour program for the whole family.
