A reception honoring Elsge Ziegler a YFU student will be held at 24 p.m in the Lutheran Church on Sunday July 29 hosted by the Keith Drake and Marvin Acker families.

Local remodeling expands business activity with Drane's Dept Store, Conry’s Chairs, Recorder Photographics, Mathers Nursing Home, Eddie's Body Shop, and Albrecht Hatchery renovations. Civic projects include elder housing near Mathers Home funded by Local League, indicating growth potential and community liveness.
Funeral services were held Tuesday for Mrs Minnie Reinicke at St James Lutheran Church in Parkersburg. She is survived by two sons Raymond of Virginia and Marlin of Indiana, a sister pair, five half siblings, nieces and nephews listed, with Englekes Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Alice Archie 75 of Moose Lake died last Wednesday in a Carlton nursing home. Survived by her husband Earl Larson of Duluth three stepdaughters and two stepsons, a sister, a brother, fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Services were held Saturday at Hamin Funeral Home.
Leo Brown 79 a Marble Rock resident died Thursday evening July 19 at Floyd County Hospital after a two week stay. Born January 30 1894 near Marble Rock he was the son of Edward and Helene Ritter Brown. He married Vida Carney in November 1940. Mrs Brown preceded him in death.

Greene Jaycees challenge the Greene Ramblerettes for a 7 15 p m game at Rams Field. Bull Christensen leads pitching with Dennis McWilliams Jerry Meek and Rich Siemens on offense as coach Paul Bisgard eyes another win. A 3 4 grade girls and mothers game starts at 6 p m with admission 50 cents adults 25 cents under 12.

Nomination papers for the Greene school board post from Bennedette township are due August 2 according to Paul Grumley superintendent. Papers may be picked up at the superintendent's office. The school board election will be held September 11. The incumbent from Bennedette township, Warren Ebling, is running for reelection.
Summer baseball teams to see the Twins in a game against the Kansas City Royals on Saturday August 4. Departure is 7 45 p m and return around 8 20 p m. Fathers may attend as chaperones. Sack lunches recommended for the noon meal. Buses will stop at a drive in on the return trip.

The Butler County Fair starts today July 25 and runs through July 29 with a busy schedule. Queen and King Kovaz Thrill Show kick off the week, followed by Children’s Day events, Fat Steer Show, Demolition Derby, cookout judging, Scrambles, and music by Rich's Ramblers. Weekend highlights include German Band performances, Slow Pitch Softball, Horse Races, Grandstand Show, Parachute Jumps, and Motorcycle Races.
The Greene Ramblerettes beat Dumont 18 6 then lost to Nashua 12 1 as injuries thin the lineup. Robbie Helm pitched the Dumont win with 6 strikeouts, Liz Reid delivered multiple extra base hits, and Julie Johnson handled pitching in defeat while Greene wrestles through a rash of injuries.
Reverend Paul Metzger, pastor at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Greene, has accepted a call to Rock Creek Lutheran Church, a rural parish southwest of Olace. His request for release was approved at a Congregational meeting held Sunday, effective September 1.
The sixth annual state Husband-Wife Eclectic Tourney drew 204 couples from 78 communities at the Country Club. Championship flight winners include Paul Grumley Greene 126 and Jim Graven Sac City 128 while runners-up featured Ron Horback Toledo 133 and Allen Yelland Ames 134. third place went to John Backer Jr Greene 134 and Bob Reiste Ocheyedan 137 with others like Doug Marsh Greene 127 and Louis Pech Waverly 134 among top standings.

Dave Eimers threw a no hitter Tuesday to lift Greene to a 4 1 win over Belmond and claim the sectional championship. Greene advances to play Nashua Thursday at 8 pm at Shef field in the first round of district play.
Robbin Helm from America’s Youth in Concert will perform at New York City's Town Hall on July 31 1973 in a tour that spans Rome Florence Venice Salzburg Paris Brussels and London. M and M Harlan Helm depart July 29 to attend the concert before Robbin's return. The program features Tchaikovsky Fifth Symphony by the Symphony Orchestra directed by Abraham Chavez and a Concert Choir under Theron Kirk performing early music works and madrigals.
