Rev and Mrs Fred Butler learned their daughter Jean and her husband Albert Stardy Jr were in a July 3 Tulsa Oklahoma accident. Their Corvette was a total loss with minor injuries to the couple and stitches for Albert and Jean.
In local Little League action on Tuesday evening July 3, the Twins beat the Cardinals 5 to 2 while the Yankees defeated the Giants 5 to 3. Cardinal hit by Jerry Shultz was the lone blemish on Willey. The Twins benefited from 5 walks, a hit batter and 2 Cardinal errors. McRoberts and Pyatt worked behind the plate for the Twins.
The Butler County Extension Council sponsors the local Master Corn Growers Contest with a July 30, 1963 deadline to enter at the Allison Extension Office. A minimum of ten acres must be entered. corn is harvested mechanically and weighed on a state inspected scale with moisture readings. Entry fee is $10 and must be paid at entry. the blank must be personally signed by the entrant.
Butler County fair exhibitors must present scab free sheep verified by a health certificate. Iowa lacks designated scab free areas so all breeding sheep require clearance. market lambs to slaughter need certificates but need not be dipped. Dips include toxaphene with 28 day slaughter restriction and lime sulfur with none.
Glade Heichel topped Winona events earning four firsts two seconds and a fourth across hydroplane and runabout classes. He added 3000 points to his season total as Wayne Thomason earned a second in B Runabout and Terry Thomason a third in A Hydroplane.
The Federal Land Bank Association of Hampton announced a cash dividend of almost 17000 to its farmer members. Leon B. Madson said the Hampton group serves about 400 farmers in Franklin West Half of Butler and South one fourth of Cerro Gordo Counties. Officers include Kenneth Sho walter president John Kreimeyer vice president Fay Walton Bernard Creeden and Alfred Jorgensen.
Reverend and Mrs George Knutson left Tuesday morning for Delta Colorado to attend funeral services for Mrs Daisy Bootcap 79 who died Monday evening They plan to return to Greene around July 25th.
Bill Williams, professional stunt driver, performs in the Tournament of Thrills roll over contest at the Butler County Fair on Sunday August 4. The 20 event program features stunt men crashing their stock cars while the drivers stay at the wheel to total wrecks.
Mr and Mrs Donald Staudt of Dougherty attended the wake for Mrs Vernon Kyle wife of a state senator in Parkersburg Thursday evening. Kyhl's daughter Constance Amosson of Hiawatha and Mrs Staudt are registered nurses who were Mercy School of Nursing classmates in Cedar Rapids.
Billy Dean Walker son of Mrs Merle Noble will enter Hinsdale Sanitarum and Hospital Hinsdale Illinois 120 Oak St on Thursday July 18 for corrective foot surgery He will convalesce at the home of Mr and Mrs George Stapel 602 N County Line Rd Hinsdale The Stapels formerly lived at Hawkeye Iowa They have been visiting friends and relatives since attending the S D A Iowa Camp meeting at Nevada June 14 22 They then traveled through Clemens Des Moines and Wyoming Iowa and Sycamore and Virgil Illinois They expect to return home in early August or when Billy is able to travel
V J Tatum superintendent of Greene Community Lehool will join a partition group for the annual Iowa Adm and School Boards live-in Conference July 18 19 at the State College in Cedar Falls. Town administrators board members legislators and college graduates will discuss the 1963 legislative session and Iowa public schools with speakers including Charles Grassley Henry Galoreth Paul Johnston and LeRoy Peterson. Co sponsors are the Iowa Association of School Administrators Iowa School Boards Association and the state college department of education and psychology.
The Little Leaguers edged Marble Rock 3 2 Thursday evening to forge a league leading tie with Greene. Marble Rock allowed two unearned runs in the first inning as Greene Ramblers answered with three in the fourth. Shultz walked, Stuntz singled, Willey reached on a fielder's choice and Shulz scored. Stuntz and Willey added runs on a ground ball by Wunsch and a Johnson sacrifice fly. Johnson pitched for Greene with Heidenwirth catching, Chambers on the mound for Marble Rock.
The semi final determined finalists Charles Teeple and Herman Stubbe after victories over Keith Drakle and Robert Curtis. The final is scheduled for Sunday afternoon. The consolation bracket remains in the quarter finals with Martin Senne and Don Deires winning earlier matches.
Greene fell 9 to 2 to Waterloo Merchants on Sunday evening. Barth drove in Greene with a third inning run, Sutten and Sutton scored on miscues in the eighth, and Waterloo plated six in the third on five hits and two errors. Greene hosts Allison July 21 and travels to Tripoli July 28. both games at 2:00 PM.
The Woman's Club hosts a July park program in its fifth week with a Storybook Land theme. Children dress as favorite storybook characters on Thursday July 18, parade through the park, ribbons for originality and humor. Craft activities include Bozo the clown icon and Little Red Riding Hood baskets. Next week features the County Fair theme and Pet Day set for July 29 with ribbons for size and peculiarity. Display Day closes the six week series on July 25 with children presenting items from each week.
The July family picnic will be held at the Country Club on Thursday evening July 18. Mr and Mrs Glenn Maxson and Mr and Mrs Don Lester lead the organizing committee.
Ramblers defeated Denver and Oelwein to advance to the sectional finals against Waverly. Greene edged Oelwein 4 to 1 as Ott earned the victory on the mound while Moses drove in runs. The 7:30 p.m. final at Waverly pits Greene against the Go Hawks in a bid for the state tournament.
Mr. and Mrs. Merle Heckman announce their son Jim has been promoted to Major in the Air Force. He is stationed at Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina.

Nine men visited Imers Chemical Company in Joplin Missouri on Thursday July 11 representing the Farmers Incar cerated Co-ops Society of Greene. The group included Charlies Lusher, Francis ger, John Backer, Darrell Brinkman, Verne Thompson, Dale Crosby, Mey ra Bruce, Edward Muller and others. Tour plans were made with CCA field man Charles Backer and Boone Vaile Dean Moser. They noted previous visits to Co-op Nitrogen Plant Lawrence Kansas and the Coffeyville Co-op, then returned to Kansas.
The State Conservation Commission reports a harvest of one and a half million cock pheasants or more this fall.
