Terry Shook departed Metropolitan Airport Detroit on Saturday bound for London then Vienna to study with Frau Kohler a teacher at the Academy. If time allows he may visit Italy and Greece before returning home after teaching in Kalamazoo Michigan this past year.
The Yankees beat the Cardinals 1 to 0 as Trees delivered the winning run in the bottom of the 6th. The Twins defeated the Giants 4 to 2 with Doug Willey winning on the mound. Larry Lester added a double and scored twice for the Twins, while Jack Majewski and Wendell Stuntz contributed for the Giants. Coaches listed for Cardinals, Yankees, Twins, and Giants.
A correction states the panel truck burned two miles north of Greene on July 2 belonged to Percy Merrill Jr. of Bristow, not Walter Hites as previously reported last week.
Leon Edward Hillman died July 3 at his farm home aged 77. Survived by sister Mrs Bird Keith and three nieces and two nephews. preceded by parents a brother and twin. Mr and Mrs Uwigar Pooley attended a Zenith display in Des Moines showcasing color TV black and white TV and stereo equipment. The event was organized by A A Schneiderhahn Company the local distributor for Zenith.
A new family sized poultry house owned by Mr and Mrs Clarence Gaiser of Rockford will be open for public inspection Friday July 12 from 1 PM to 9 PM. The building includes innovations with a lagoon system for handling droppings and waste, a novel feature compared with conventional dropping boards or pits.
New residents Mr and Mrs Roger Landers of Aredale welcomed a son named Todd Alan born June 26 at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City. The infant weighed 6 pounds 6 3/4 ounces and joins the family after relocating to the area.
Allen Smith aged 35 of New Hartford appeared before Justice Dean Wiegmann in Allison on July 4 and pleaded guilty to intoxication. He was arrested by the New Hartford marshal early July 4, paid a $50 fine, and was released from the county jail in Allison.
The East meets the West in the Cedar Valley League All Star baseball game set for Friday night July 12 in Denver. Denver Fred ericksburg Readlyn and Tripoli players clash with Greene Janesville and Allison selections at 8 p m. Greene reps are Duane Newton Larry Gabe Dallas Slager Bill Schindler and Ken Sutton. Allison sends Bob White Brent Prange Larry Burroughs Vic Woodley and Loren Steidel for the West.
A June report from the Iowa Department of Social Welfare details Butler County aid: 298 cases involving 444 people. Total aid $22,393 including old age assistance $13,748 and nursing $4,644 and medical $2,263. aid to dependent children $6,560 for 51 cases involving 197 people with $732 for medical. aid to blind $1,386 for 12 recipients. aid to disabled $699 for nine recipients.
Sailor Rallin Ray of the aircraft carrier Sarainga writes from a Mediterranean cruise. He mentions visits to Italy Capri Greece and reports many American cars and good highways. The ship heads toward Cannes and Nice France with plans for further ports.
The Butler County Chapter of the American Red Cross schedules its annual meeting in the Party Room at Hotel Allison on Monday July 22 at 8 00 pm. Officers and directors will be elected. The public is invited to attend.

Thieves broke into the Dumont Elevator early July 4 and took $35 from a filing cabinet safe. The Butler County Sheriff's office is investigating.
Boards of Bate Butler and Bremer counties met to discuss consolidating supervision under one superintendent. They agreed to operate as a single district as of August 1, with Butler Bremer and the other county under one head, Frank indicating support for the consolidation.
The Ramblers won 12 to 6 over Wapsie Valley at Waverly to reach the high school baseball sectionals second round. Greene batted 1 for 4 with 1 hit and 7 walks off Myer, Ott allowed 2 hits and 9 walks. Myers doubled and Poppe tripled in the extra-base hits. The teams meet Denver tonight at 6:20 in Waverly with semifinals Friday and finals Monday.

Malloy contributed a three run blow for Greene, while Myers pitched six innings with 8 strikeouts and 3 walks. Anderson fanned 10 while Greene had no walks, and State Center added a five run third inning to seal the win.
A Marine Corps veteran arrived home Saturday after receiving his discharge. He served four years, with duty in Okinawa, the Philippines, Hong Kong and Puerto Rico.
A tractor pulling contest is slated at the Butler County Fair in front of the grandstand on Friday night August 2. Three classes offer prizes from $5 to $40 with entry limited to 23. registration closes July 31 with a $5 fee and entries available from Mrs. Joan H Brandt and local implement dealers. Contestants will be weighed August 2 at Brand Elevator in Allison between 12 30 pm and 5 pm.
The Greene Merchants fell 2 to 1 at Readlyn on Sunday afternoon. Greene scored in the fourth when Harry Barth and Sutton connected. Readlyn answered with two runs after two walks and two singles. Greene will host Waterloo Merchants Sunday evening July 14 at 8:00.
Mr and Mrs Wayne Thomason and Nils attended boat races at Storm Lake on July 4 and in Lincoln Nebraska over the weekend Glade Meichel ran the races and took firsts and seven seconds Wayne Thomason earned seven firsts and Terri Thompson took seconds and thirds All placings were in the A and Be classes
The Pirates held a treasure hunt at the Youth Center during a farm themed week with crafts like papier mache pigs and pin wheels. A large Wire Pig made of papier mache will be shown at the County Fair. volunteers and next week's Story Book Land dress up day are announced.
Mr and Mrs Marvin Berth and their son of Allison left Wednesday for a two week vacation in Connecticut and Rhode Island to visit friends and relatives.

The Waverly Children’s Home festival set for Sunday July 14 marks a centennial year of service. Past executive directors, including Dr. L. Ludwig and Dr. RH Riensche, will attend along with speakers Dr. Moeller and Dr. Becker. A noon concert by the Waverly Municipal Band and a massed children’s chorus are planned.
Mrs Vernon Kyht Ryh ersburg massed away on Tuesd July 9th at her home Strate Senator or Counties. The Iowa State Highway Commission will accept bids July 23 for 11 miles of asphalt concrete pavement on Iowa 188 in Butler and Bremer Counties. The project covers 103 miles in Butler County from Clarksville north and east to the county line and extends one mile into Bremer from the Butler County line toward Plainfield, with 25 farm-to-market projects approved for bidding.
Rei H. Drake YN3 son of Mr and Mrs Lawrence Drake left Thursday for Jacksonville where he joined the United States Navy. He spent a 26 day leave with relatives and planned to fly to Waterloo then Chicago to Jackson and to the Shangri La that is the CVA 38 fleet post office in New York New York.
Jim Marshall, driver of car number 59, earned a first and two second places at Nashua on Saturday evening. He won the third heat and placed second in both the B Semi Main and the Feature Event, reflecting strong performance in the stock car races.
