The first meeting of a synchronized swimmers group will be held at the Community Pool on Saturday July 13 at 8 o clock a.m. Community members who are experienced swimmers and wish to participate should attend or sign up at the pool.
Butler County spent 31 924 for public assistance. Old Age Assistance accounted for 18 370, Aid to Dependent Children 8 231, Aid to Blind 1 410, and Aid to Disabled 3 913. June expenditures across Iowa totaled 5 370 406, up 38 751 from May due to more cases and higher costs in Dependent Children and Disabled programs.
The Round Grove Golf and Country Club hosts a grand opening dinner dance on Tuesday July 16 at 7 30 p m in the newly remodeled clubhouse with a cocktail hour beforehand. Music will be by Carl Schwenneker and tickets are available from board members.
Holiday guests at the Stewart home over the Fourth of July weekend included Mr and Mrs Kenneth Stewart and sons from Houston Texas. Mr and Mrs Bob Ramsdell and family from Marion and Spee. and Mr and Mrs Roger Stewart and son Tony. The Roger Stewarts recently returned from Germany where he served three years in the army. They departed Tuesday for Lockport New York where he will be stationed.

New resident couple Lonnie and Lisa Johnson welcome baby girl Lisa Jo born June 29 weighing 8 pounds 9 ounces. The newborn is greeted by brother Troy. Grandparents are Lowell and Mrs Moore of Rockford and Everett Johnson and Mrs Johnson of Newark Illinois, formerly Rockford.
John Debner of Waterloo and former Greene resident suffered a heart attack on Friday July 5 and was transported to Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. He lived in Room 352 on the floor and previously ran a Waterloo drug store.

Herman Brocka of Allison, the Butler County assessor, has been hospitalized for two weeks at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo after a heart attack. He is reported to be improving.
Mrs Genevieve du Jonday received word of the death of her aunt Mrs Gertrude Thomas Savage in Orlando Florida on Friday July 5 services and burial were held there Monday July 8 Born September 8 1878 in Greene she was the daughter of Samuel and Armida Thomas Her husband Herbert and her parents two sisters Maude Stevens and Dr Alice Thomas and her brother Sam Thomas preceded her in death She is survived by several nieces and nephews
Lyle Williamson, a Greene Community School sophomore, was invited to join the National Honor Society after meeting GPA and semester standards. He earned a 3.0 cumulative GPA and at least 3.2 last semester, and received unanimous faculty approval across four areas Service Leadership Character Growth with ratings averaging 5.0 or higher.
The Joie Chitwood Auto Dare Devils led by P. J. Blair perform a crash demonstration at the Butler County Fair in Allison on Wednesday evening July 24. The stunt uses old stock cars to illustrate seat belt safety and lifesaving outcomes.
Mr and Mrs Galen Martzahn move their flower shop from the basement of the Martzahn home to a new building directly north of their residence. The relocation marks a shift from home business to a standalone storefront.
Greene Ramblers defeated Nora Springs 13 to 12 on Tuesday night. Greene piled 4 runs in the third, 1 in the fourth, 7 in the fifth and 1 in the sixth. Nettleton Drake Landers and Shultz had hits, Brunsma went 2 for 4. Sectional tournament set for Allison and Dumont with Greene and others in first-round pairings and schedule through July 22.
Visiting father Dale Poppe hosts Marine Lance Corporal Dean M Poppe in Greene for a three week leave. Dean recently graduated aviation electronics school in Jacksonville Florida after six months with the service. He will be stationed at El Toro California assigned to a flight squadron after his leave ends.
The Greene Jaycees will hold their town and country barbeque on Sunday August 4 from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Perrin Park.
The Joie Chitwood Thrill Show will headline the Butler County Fair at Allison on the fair’s opening night Wednesday July 24. The program starts at 7 00 p m. Chitwood a famed racer turned stunt driver has three decades of speed lore including nine Indianapolis 500 starts and a national dirt track title streak from 1939 to 1941.
Margaret May Morfoot died at 95 in Floyd County Memorial Hospital. A Greene resident for years she lived at Chautauqua Guest Home, buried at Nevada Cemetery after funeral at Reid's Greene chapel. Born April 22, 1873 in Freeport Illinois she survived by daughter Mrs George Whitson of Florida two sons Earl Kinsey and Lloyd Kinsey twelve grandchildren and twenty two great grandchildren.
Bob Barth underwent surgery to remove a disc from his back at Mercy Hospital in Mason City on Monday morning. He expects to remain hospitalized about a week for recovery and observation.
The Yankees, Braves and Dodgers won local league games on Tuesday July 2. The Yankees remained undefeated by beating the Indians 7 to 0 on nine walks and one hit. Braves defeated Orioles 5 to 1 behind Steve Stanton three hits while Dodgers beat Giants 1 to 0 in seven innings. Standings show Dodgers 0 Yankees 2, Orioles 1 Braves 1 Indians 0, Giants 0 2. No games this week due to Boy Scouts camp. play resumes July 16.
The Butler County Fair cookout contest accepts male residents 12 and older to enter beef pork lamb poultry turkey or a novelty class. Five men challenge last year’s winner Herman Faber. Entry blanks are at the Farm Bureau office in Allison. The overall winner gets a portable gas bar-b-que grill with division winners eligible for a state contest offering a washer and dryer as grand prize.
The Greene Commercial Club meets tonight at 7:30 at City Hall to plan purchases and Ridiculous Day. Butler County Fair offers calf scramble July 21 for 8 to 12 year olds, with eligibility rules. entry cutoff 1:00 p.m. July 27. Senator Vernon H. Kuhl, chairman of the Iowa Commission of Interstate Cooperation, announces John Camp of Clinton County and James T. Caffrey of Polk County as members of a new standing Committee on Public Welfare for the Midwestern Conference of the Council of State Governments. The 1968 annual meeting runs July 14 to 17 in Bismarck North Dakota.

In Allison Town Court on June 29, several individuals including Paul Bergloff Darwin Penning Darrell Penning Russell Penning and Paulette Penning faced unlawful assembly charges. Darrell Penning pled not guilty posting a 50.60 bond. others were fined.
The Babe Ruth and Greene Little League teams split games on Wednesday July 3, with Greene taking sole possession of first after beating Nashua 2 to 1 and also defeating the Bulldogs 4 to 2. Greene’s Bruce Miller and Joe Shultz led with timely hits and solid defense as Nashua dropped to 8-2 while Babe Ruth stood 8-1.
