The Jacobs couple welcomed a son born Saturday July 1 at Floyd County Veterans Memorial Hospital Charles City weighing 8 pounds 1 ounce. He has a brother David and a sister Melinda waiting at home. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs P A Jacobs Greene and Mr and Mrs Percy Roseberry Oregon.
The Greene Merchants defeated Fairmont 1 to 0 in the first round at Austin Minnesota as Douglas Marsh walked Jim Drake singled and Bob Barth singled for the lone run. They then lost 8 to 1 to Webster City in the second round with Meek and Weiss on the mound and 14 runners left on base. Next weekend Greene plays at Clear Lake and Cresco.
Carl Friedricks of Marble Rock died suddenly Wednesday morning at Floyd County Veterans Memorial Hospital in Charles City after admission on July 4. Survivors include his wife Ingeborg Kinsedahl and several children. Funeral services are pending with Reid's Funeral Chapel.
Mrs Richard E Jahnes announces National Safety Council Defensive Driving Course at Immaculate Conception School Charles City on July 19 and 20 from 1230 to 430 daily. Safety Consultants of the State Safety Education Division will teach. Fee is 2 dollars for materials. Reservations to Mrs Bryan Conley Nashua by July 13.
Entrants have begun arriving at the Farm Bureau office in Allison for a Cook Out Contest open to males over 12 in Butler County. Bruce Marsh of Greene sponsored by Farm Bureau Insurance, and Bill Ingle of Clarksville sponsored by Butler Grundy Farm Service. First prize a TV set displayed in Allison. Contest on July 31 at County Fair. winners in pork beef lamb turkey poultry and novelty classes qualify for State Fair on August 23 for a colored TV and other prizes. Judges Darrel Dean KWVY Waverly and Paul Barger KWWL Waterloo. Buller County Farm Bureau cooperates with Pork Producers Beef Producers and Greene Allison Jaycees from Greene Allison Parkersburg.
The Greene Ramblers defeated Nora Springs 11 to 0 to extend their perfect 10-0 season in the Corn Bowl Conference summer baseball league. Pitcher Lynn Gabe threw a five inning perfect game with 12 strikeouts, as Greene exploded for one run in the first, nine in the second and one in the third, while Nora Springs managed five.

The Butler County Fair Association sponsors a Queen Contest with the winner to represent Butler County at the Iowa State Fair in August. Twelve communities may sponsor a candidate and elimination contests are encouraged to choose eligible contestants aged 16 to 21. Carol Lindaman of Allison was the 1966 winner.
Seaman Charles E. Wubbena USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Reiner C. Wubbena of Bristow, serves aboard the Navy oiler USS Chemung with the Seventh Fleet in the Western Pacific. The ship recently completed a six month overhaul adding air conditioning a new laundry and a larger ship store. In the Western Pacific the Chemung will visit Kaohsiung Taiwan and Hong Kong.
In Hospital E. N. McQueen of Greene is a patient in the Veteran's Hospital in Des Moines where he is receiving treatment.
Iowa State University Cooperative Extension Service releases pamphlet PM-376 for dairymen. Kay Connelly notes the guide covers four dairy areas including management culling feeding and site selection with DHIA record examples. Copies will be placed in herd record books and available at county extension offices. Donald Voelker endorsed the distribution and oversight.
Expenditures from public assistance funds show Butler County spending 29639 dollars in June. Old Age Assistance totals 2524224 to 171 recipients, with Aid to Dependent Children at 2130797 for 51 cases involving 164 persons, and smaller sums for Aid to Blind, the Disabled and Medical Aid to the Aged. Grants dominate costs, with 56.6 percent of total, while nursing care and medical payments account for 17.9 and 15.5 percent respectively.
Kenneth Sutton, instructor at Greene Community School, announced that the second division driver education classes will begin Friday July 7. Students should meet at 7 30 a.m. at the high school.
Iowa lawmakers passed a new law restricting juvenile motorboat operation. No one under 12 may operate a vessel over six horsepower unless accompanied by a responsible 18 year old experienced operator. Enforcement starts July 1 1967.
The Greene Rambler baseball team meets Waverly in the first round of the sectional tournament at Allison next Wednesday July 12 at 6 00 pm The second game features Allison versus Plainfield at 8 00 pm Semifinals are at Allison Friday night July 14 with games at 6 00 pm and 8 00 pm

Greene Merchants fell 2 to 1 to Cresco in the tournament finals on Tuesday after beating Nashua and Northwestern of Mason City in earlier rounds. The event included Sheffield defeating Hamms and Cresco over Butt’r Topp with late innings deciding results. Greene’s lone run came on a Charles Weiss homer in the third inning. A work detail at Round Grove Golf and Country Club is planned for Friday after noon with shovels and rakes to level a nearby area. if rain, it shifts to Tuesday July 11.
Iowa farmers face guidance from State Conservation Commission and Game Officials to delay mowing on government acres. With cold wet weather hindering pheasant nesting, officials urge raising mower blades eight to ten inches to protect incubating hens. Fred McLain endorses slowing mowing and letters will urge cooperation until nesting ends.
John H. Neiman of Des Moines, president of the Iowa State Bar Association, announces appointments to multiple committees including James H. Graven named to the grievances panel.
Greene agent Francis Brinkman, representing Butler County Mutual Insurance Assn of New Hartford, was named a top producer by Grinnell Mutual Life Insurance Co. during the 59th Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance annual meeting. Prizes based on life insurance sales from March 1 to June 23 were awarded to licensed county mutual agents.
Early summer observations show an abundant cottontail population across nearly all counties of Iowa. Excessive June rains affected many bottom lands, causing localized declines along streams, but overall statewide numbers remain strong according to State Conservation Commission biologists.
Reverend John G Butler his wife and children Elizabeth and David returned home to Detroit Michigan on Thursday after a three week vacation at the home of John’s parents Mr and Mrs Garth Butler John serves as pastor of Greenfield Baptist Church in Detroit where he has been in nearly four years.
