Greene holds first place after an 11 to 3 win over Rudd while Babe Ruthers drop to second with a 3 to 2 loss in seven innings. Hagarty debuts as Greene pitchers Gabe Nettleton and Hagarty limit Rudd’s hitters. Behnke and Behnke homers fuel the victory. Rudd counters with Squer’s fourth inning homer and triples by Carlson Schweger. final seventh inning walk and error give Rudd the win. Greene hosts Floyd then Rockford next week as standings tighten.

Rites Held for Rev. F. A. Munneke

Funeral services for Rev Frederick A. Munneke 88 were held at Westminster Presbyterian Church Cedar Rapids. A retired pastor he served Greene from February 1 1932 to March 27 1939 and also served at Cag on and Cedar Rapids. He is survived by his wife three sons one sister and two brothers.

Park Program Third Week Continues With Crafts and Games

The Womans Club recreation program enters its third week with July 4th causing a skip on Tuesday. Friday will host activities themed around foreign countries. Crafts include hot pads pin dishes and pot holders. Helpers Mrs Herman Stubbe and Mrs Vern Rottler assist. Children enjoy softball as usual. Next week features circus themes with costumes on July 13. Appreciation note to helpers and material donors.

The first round matches of the Men s City Golf Tournament are done. Neil Horn beat Paul Lewison, Don Bachman defeated Richard Wagoner, Vern Rattler beat Jim Drake Jr, Clyde Stuntz beat Mike Brunsma, Robert Curtis over Larry Finnell, Jim Mead over Francis Knapp, Dennis Mair over Greg Dralle, Chuck Teeple over Jim Knapp, R Brekke over Charley Nichol, Keith Dralle over Dean Ott, Dr Wentworth over Robert Fischer, George Sneed over George Koons, Martin Senne over Gary Rattler, Jim Dralle over Gerald Stephenson. Harold Nielsen Injured in Haying Accident

Harold Nielsen was injured on Tuesday June 27 at Marion Gibson farm when a hay rack tossed eight bales and struck him. He suffered a broken right collar bone and several broken ribs and is recuperating at home.

Brownie and Scout Day Camp Concludes at Ola Round Grove

Greene Scouts along with thirty five girls from Greene and Clarksville completed a three unit day camp. The program featured songs, ceremonies, cooking over an open fire, crafts, folk dances, knot tying, nature study and a closing ceremony with mothers. Notable contributors included Mrs Eldred Mather and Miss Joan Valen tine with various demonstrations and lessons.

Reinhart Wins Women s Invitational Golf at Round Grove

Elene Reinhart of Waverly won the 18 hole championship with an 86 at the Round Grove Golf and Country Club in Greene. Judy Spain of Parkersburg was runner up with 88 as over 80 women from thirteen towns competed plus local prizes awarded for 9 and 18 holes and a luncheon crowd of 130 attended.

Eight Injured in Rural Two Car Crash Near Charles City

Eight people were admitted to Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City after a two car crash at a rural intersection NW of the city. Among the injured are LaVonne Schultz and her daughter Virginia Brown from near Rockford, with Virginia's brother Virgil treated and released. The other vehicle carried Harold F. Kock and his children Marilyn and Dean, plus Bristow residents Diana and Dennis Weiland. Greene's Junior Legion base ball squad won 5 4 against Sheffield and 3 1 over East Waterloo to reach the district finals at State Center. Milton Pringle 86 Dies in Burt Nursing Home

Former resident Milton Pringle died Friday morning at a Burt nursing home at age 86. Born December 5, 1874 in Greene, he was an auctioneer for years. Survived by a daughter and a granddaughter in South America. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Buffalo Center with burial in Lakota.

Sectional Baseball Tourney Opens Monday at Thornton Diamond

National Presbyterian Women Meeting Attended At Purdue

Mrs Gi Butler returned Saturday night after attending the National United Presbyterian Women's Meeting at Purdue University campus from June 26 to July 1. Over 3,000 women participated including attendees from all 50 states and 29 foreign countries.
