The Town of Greene installed life savers at Sherman's Sport Shop the City Boat Dock and Maxson Boat Shop and Interstate Power Company They also attached new ropes to the river bridge to aid swimmers in distress.
The Greene Junior Legion team fell 5 to 4 to host State Center in the district finals last Friday evening. Greene led 4 to 3 entering the ninth before State Center rallied for the win. Marsh allowed four hits while Gabe, Marsh, and Harry Barth each had one Greene hit.
A stag supper is scheduled at Round Grove Golf and Country Club Tuesday evening, July 18. The event invitation notes a social gathering for attendees and supporters.
A cooperative tour of four Floyd County cattle feeding operations will be sponsored by the Floyd County Beef Producers Association and the Extension Service on Tuesday July 18. It starts at 9:00 a.m. at the Achievement Show Grounds two miles west of Charles City on Highway 14 with lunch and a panel discussion led by L J Bodensteiner Dale Studt and three county feeders. Dale Hicok is coordinating the event and Donovan Marsh serves as association president.
Alan Trees confined to his bed with rheumatic fever after several weeks of illness and missing school. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Duane Trees, was in Greene Community School seventh grade, and will celebrate his 18th birthday Saturday July 15.
Ed Deeg was discharged to his Mason City home Saturday after undergoing surgery at Mercy Hospital. His condition was reported as improving with no complications noted at this time.
Explorer Scouts will inspect and Scotch Lite bicycles on Wednesday evening July 19 in front of the high school gym starting at 7. License plates will not be issued this year due to lack of interest. Scotch Lite tape will be placed on all bicycles to improve night safety for the youngsters.
The fourth week of the summer park program kickoff Monday with a circus theme. Children are urged to dress as circus characters and join the public viewing. Crafts include braid weaving shell jewelry clown figures and Kraf sticks with helpers Linda Jackson Kay Wiegman contact Jeanette Wirth for those wishing to assist. Next week focuses on pet week with a pet parade at the park and requests felt and small fancy jars for the craft table.
Rev. A J Cheney of Topeka Kansas spent several days last week visiting his brother and sister in law Will Cheney and sister Mrs Lois Pringle and other relatives. He left for Minnesota Sunday afternoon.
Mr. Gary Dean Kingery son of Mr and Mrs Orval Kingery Greene has been notified of acceptance for the December 4 1961 class at Grand Island Nebraska School of Business He will major in Accounting after graduating Greene Community School this spring
New residents Mr and Mrs James Marshall of Greene welcomed a daughter born July 6 at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City weighing 6 pounds 4 ounces named Kim LaJean. Mr and Mrs Harry Stanton of Sioux City have a daughter born July 3 at St Joseph Mercy Hospital weighing 7 pounds 13 ounces named Lynda Catherine. Rev and Mrs John Devies of Davenport welcomed a daughter born June 30 weighing 7 pounds 1 ounce named Diedre Sue. grandparents are Rev I J Deines and Dr and Mrs William Andrews.

In Lincoln Nebraska hospital patient Guy V Newcomer arrived Monday for observation and on Thursday he expects to undergo a planned procedure pending medical evaluation and approval by his care team.
Airman Third Class Dallas W. Foster, son of Mr and Mrs Lowell Foster of Clarksville Iowa, finished the jet aircraft mechanic course at Sheppard AFB Texas. A Greene Community High School graduate he went to Sheppard from Lackland AFB Texas and then reported to Elgin AFB Florida after two weeks at home.
The Little Leaguers defeated Floyd 9 to 1 with Greene and Gabe leading the offense. Tom Hagarty John Barth and Lynn Gabe powered the hits while Gabe and Nettleton combined on the mound for Greene. The Babe Ruth League split with Rockford 13 to 4 against Floyd and 8 to 1 over Rockford, then lost 13 to 4 to Rockford. Greene hosts Marble Rock Thursday then travels to Nora Springs Monday.
Ed Barth 81 died in his sleep at home in Greene after a life in Floyd County and Bennedette Township. He married Louise Schueneman in 1915, survived by daughter Mrs Will Webb of Los Angeles, wife predeceased. Funeral at St Peter's Lutheran Church with Rev J J Deiies officiating. burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. arrangements by Hamilton's Funeral Chapel.
Mr and Mrs Earle Rague and Mr and Mrs Eugene Rague have returned home after a nine day trip to Lamar Colorado. They visited Earl Ragues brother in law and sister Mr and Mrs Robert Reynolds and another sister M Verona Rague during the visit.
Forty three Boy Scouts and leaders departed Sunday for Winnebago Scout Camp at Marble Rock for a weeklong stay. Leaders Henry Smeins and Bob Schultz accompany them as the largest troop this season. Visitors welcome Wednesday 6:30 to 10:00 pm. campfire ceremonies begin 8:00 pm. parents and others urged to attend.
The Indians beat the Braves 8 to 3 and the Yankees defeated the Pirates 5 to 2 on Tuesday evening July 4. Jeff Drakle and Larry Eimers each had two hits for their teams. Bruce Nettleton earned the win while Greg Drake took the loss. Leading Pirates hitters were Gary Johnson and John Barth. top Yankees hitters were Duane Leavens, Jerry Loomer and Doug Ruffridge.
Greene Farm Equipment and Agriculture Company has been awarded the contract to install heating and air conditioning in the new First State Bank building in Rockford.
Greene High School Ramblers lost 7 to 6 to Hampton in the first round of the High School Sectional Tournament at Thornton Monday evening. Greene batters failed to score until late. four runs came in the sixth on five hits and a walk, then another in the seventh before a ground out to end the game. Gabe and Myers pitched for Greene. Dreyer and Sheeler for Hampton.
Mrs Norma Klingbeil resigns effective July 1 from half time clerk role in the Social Welfare Office. Mrs Shirley Schroeder of Greene is hired to replace and began work Monday July 3. Mrs Mildred Young, a Welfare Office social worker, attended a two week Social Work Short Course at the State University of Iowa in Iowa City.
Governor Norman Erbe of Town endorsed the Boy Scouts of America aim of character building and citizenship training and supported the Together Program to broaden Scouting. He spoke at the 53rd Annual Governors Conference in Honolulu where all governors backed a resolution praising the Scouts. Winnebago Council President T H Leaver welcomed the endorsement and said it boosts youth training in good character and citizenship.
The State Conservation Commission requires a $4.00 fee with boat registration and numbering for all motor powered boats. Many applicants have delayed or omitted payment, causing shipment delays. forms must include an exact amount via deer or money order. Previously only faster boats were numbered and registration was free. The rule took effect July 4 to fund enforcement of water laws and boating facilities.
The 105th Butler County Fair opens Friday August 4 in Allison running three days through Monday August 7. Premium books are available at county banks or by writing fair secretary Charles J. Miller. Exhibitors clock entry times, and events include horse shows, stage attractions, and the “Queen of Conservation” crown on Monday.

Camp Barbara Allison and Ferrol Senne continue counselor training at Camp Gaywood in Clear Lake through the week, focusing on program planning first aid and youth supervision skills.
Mr and Mrs Norman Wolters and daughter were honored at a farewell picnic at Round Grove Golf and Country Club on Saturday evening. About 25 couples and families attended as Bridge and 500 games preceded the gift presentation. The Wolters were presented with a gilt and plan to move to Humboldt this week.
Donald Osier had back surgery at Mercy Hospital in Mason City on Thursday. He is listed in room 457.
Mr and Mrs George Beninga with Rev and Mrs Marvin Beninga of Jesup attended funeral services for Ben Assink in Kanawa on Friday.
The Feuerhelm reunion gathered about 100 attendees from California Texas Minnesota and Iowa at Perrin Park Sunday. Noermin Graven chaired with Leonard Feuerhelm and Clinton Dee elected chair and co chair for 1962. Activities included coffee at the Graven home, a noon picnic, pony fest games water contests, with prizes for oldest attendees greatest distance traveled and oldest baby pictures displayed.
William Harold Moore, infant son of Mr and Mrs Elvin Moore, was baptized during Sunday morning worship at the Methodist Church.

Confederate Girl's Diary by Sarah Morgan Dawson joins Civil War works, first published in 1913 and acclaimed as a poignant diary. A Tapping on the Wall by Helen Hull offers Suspense about a professor drawn into murder. Known but to God by Quin tin Reynolds recounts the Unknowns of memorials from World War I, World War II, and Korea. Mark of Treachery by Clarence Burnston Kellind blends humor, silence, and romance in a tale of a young man learning self preservation matters. The fragment ends mid sentence.
