The Recorder urges fluoridation as the most feasible way to cut dental decay and endorses adding fluoride to Greene's water supply. The high school presents its annual mid winter concert on Wednesday February 7 at 7 45 p m in the auditorium. The 93 piece concert band stage band mixed choir and Madrigal under Ray Holtz and Harold Blosser perform music from serious works to pops. Rambler Club season tickets remain valid and tickets will be sold at the door with refreshments served by Music Mothers.
Roy E. Buss, 19, of Parkersburg, bound over to Butler County District Court on charges of breaking and entering. He allegedly took items from New Hartford Hardware and Klodt Shoe Store and admitted to stealing a boat motor, gear, and a life jacket north of Clarksville, with most items recovered. Police and Grundy County Sheriff aided. Buss posted and then posted bond.
Minnie Gabe 86 died Tuesday at Floyd County Memorial Hospital Charles City after a two week stay. Born Wilhelmina Oldenburg September 16 1881 in Germany she immigrated to the United States at age three, settling in Powersville. She married Wilhelm Gabe March 17 1903. Survived by sons Leo and Walter and daughter Dorothy Fischer, six grandchildren, and a half sister Anna Schallock. Preceded by husband and three sons. Funeral Friday at St Peters Lutheran Church at 2 pm. Burial Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Reid's Funeral Chapel in charge.
Mrs. Bertha Thomas, 88, fractured hip Monday and was taken to Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City. Surgery Tuesday morning involved pinning the fracture. Mrs. Thomas, former Greene resident, makes her home with Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Rodman.
Kenneth Bell aged 47 died at a hospital near his Lakewood home California on Thursday Funeral services were held Saturday at St Maria Goretti Church Long Beach California Survivors include his wife Geraldine two daughters and three sons all at home a sister Mrs H J Ingebretsen of Los Alametos an aunt Mrs C T Stager of Greene and many other relatives in Greene community
Greene and Plainfield wrestlers share top honors as both teams tally four first places at Greene Invitational. Winners include Doug Trees 112 lbs and George Nixt 165 lbs, with Mar den, Hartzell, Hauser, and Spree among others. Newborn Shelly Kay Metcalf born January 29 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo to Ronald and Mrs. Metcalf of Waterloo. Grandparents: Ivan Clikeman Greene and George Metcalf Waterloo.
Rev. and Mrs. George 8. Knutson announced the death of Rev. Knutson’s brother Goodwin who died Saturday at 2 p.m. while shoveling snow. George Knutson’s family traveled to Granite Falls Minnesota for the funeral, held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church.
The National Farmers Organization in Floyd and Butler Counties will hold an organizational meeting in the Community Center over the Greene Public Library on Monday February 5 at 8 PM. All farmers and businessmen are invited to attend. The program will cover how better farm prices can be attained.
Robert K. Beck a GOP gubernatorial candidate spoke at a noon Parkersburg luncheon. Attendees included editors and party leaders from Butler Franklin and Grundy counties as part of Charlie Butler County chairman Herman Faber's series to acquaint the public with Republican candidates for state and national offices. Beck urged farming support tax relief river pollution and restraint on elective officials.
Roger Harms of Allison is Eastern Iowa Champion in the Second National Soybean Yield Contest with 90.43 bushels per acre. He received an International 100B Farm Pickup Truck from Blanco Products Company in Indianapolis. Harms grew Amsey soybeans in 36 inch rows, applied 600 pounds of 5-14-42 fertilizer, and used 1 percent Treflan per acre for pre-emergence weed control on a five acre plot.
Ray Holt details proposed expansion for Greene Community School music facilities to support a rapidly growing program. He cites 225 instrumental students, overcrowded spaces, and lack of practice rooms, storage, and specialized areas while outlining acoustics, staff needs, and future classroom design to sustain a balanced program.
Greene Ramblers and Ramblerettes extended their streaks by defeating Nora Springs 99 to 54 and then beating Riceville. Rich Siemens scored 23 and Larry Eimers 22 as Greene shot 56.9 percent and led 48 to 32 at half. Nora Springs struggled from the arc and free throws.
Representative H R Gross R Iowa announces he will seek reelection to the House rather than run for the Senate seat being vacated by Rourke B Hickenlooper. He says he can better serve Iowa as a senior House member after 20 years in Congress amid supportive calls.
Howard Clapham underwent back surgery Friday morning at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Mason City. The procedure was performed at the hospital, and none of the details about the surgery or recovery are provided in the brief notice.
Paul Kramer of Aredale placed third in the Iowa division of the National Corn Yield Contest with 163.55 bushels per acre on a 25 acre plot. The state winner was Lavern McCabe of Cascade with 195.46 bushels per acre, while Duane Dostal of Dystart was second at 177.71. The national champion was Don ald J. Storeholder of Delta Ohio with 231.3 bushels per acre on 26 acres.
The Butler County Iowa Grand Jury reports findings for the first quarter 1968. It recommends privacy improvements at the men’s stool area, a fixed alarm, jail window replacements, and a new courthouse due to overcrowding and fire risk to records. Foreman Zoe Andersen signs the document dated January 15, 1968.
Mrs. Duane Kellogg was admitted to Floyd County Memorial Hospital on Tuesday January 23 for treatment of complications following the flu.

Eldon F. Peterson announced Greene's Farmers Inc. Co op Society attended the 64th Farmers Grain Dealers Association of Iowa meeting in Des Moines January 29 30. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Francis Brinkman and Mr and Mrs Dean Ott. The theme was Real Bargaining Power Through Cooperatives with a panel on marketing agreements for cooperative elevators.
Ramblerette B team beat Clarksville 43 28 on Monday. Janea Fischer led with 17 points while Clarksville’s Linda Sells had 23. Greene built a 25 13 halftime margin after a 10 5 first quarter. Scorers for Greene included Fischer 17 Majewski 8 Stauffer 8 Landers 6 Poppe 2 Kehoe 2. All players participated.
