Final results from the November 25, 1958 corn referendum in a 26 state area show 71.2 percent of 357,169 farmers favored a program eliminating corn acreage allotments and adopting a new method for setting 1959 and later price supports. The plan ends acreage restrictions, sets national price supports at about 90 percent of the three year average with a floor of 65 percent of parity, and applies uniformly to all U S corn meeting quality standards. 1959 estimated support price ranges from 1.12 to 1.15 per bushel.
A March of Dimes bake sale will be held at the Gamble Store on Saturday starting at 9:00 a.m. under chairwoman Mrs. P. C. Peck. The event funds expanded foundation work to fight arthritis and crippling diseases plus birth defects and nervous disorders, including polio. Envelopes with contributions should be mailed this week.
Fred Otto Mohring of Charles City pleaded guilty to first offense drunk driving Saturday morning and was sentenced by Judge Wild to ninety days in the county jail. Clarence Hovenga of Aplington was arrested in Clarksville by Deputy Sheriff Marvin Barth on a resisting arrest charge last Thursday. Hovenga waived preliminary information in Frank Knight's court and bond was set at 350 dollars. He is held in the county jail with bond to be furnished Monday, January 26.

December purchases of United States savings bonds in Iowa rose to nearly 816 million, 25 percent above December 1957. Butler county matched the gain and surpassed its 1938 goal, with countywide sales totaling 1,020,010 for 109 percent of the quota per John McWhirter of Allison, the county volunteer chairman.

Donald Rohwedder formerly of Greene earned a Bachelor of Arts and a ten year professional teaching certificate from Town State Teachers College Cedar Falls at semester end. He accepted a position with Clay Equipment Corporation Cedar Falls.
Mrs. Buena Mockmore of Iowa State College will present a program on retirement at 8 00 pm Wednesday February 11 in the Farm Bureau Auditorium Allison. The public is invited to hear this widely known speaker on child development and family life.
In Cedar Falls Mr and Mrs Will J McRoberts stay with their son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs Max Thompson at Cedar Falls with their small granddaughters while the Thompsons are in Rochester Minnesota with their four year old son Greg who underwent major surgery at the Methodist Hospital for the second time in a few weeks.
S P Jerry Caldwell reenlists for six more years after completing a four year term. He is stationed at Fort Devens Massachusetts. His wife Nancy Curtis of Greene and their family are with him in the east.
Ira Vern Losee born October 1 1894 on a Floyd County farm died January 25 in Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City. Survived by wife Gladys two sons Claude and Earl a step daughter Ardis Lockwood a step son Donovan O’Hara twelve grandchildren and siblings. Funeral Tuesday 2 00 pm at St Pauls Lutheran Marble Rock with Rev J Devies burial East Side Cemetery. Hamptons Funeral Chapel Marble Rock in charge.
Mr and Mrs Walter Deira plan a few weeks vacation starting Thursday in Florida. They will tour Clear Water and Naples during their trip.
Clayton Douglas Becker arrived at his parents home on Friday noon for a 16 day leave. At the end of his leave he will return to Argentia Base in Newfoundland where he has been stationed since last September.
Jose Greco and his Spanish Ballet will perform at Wartburg College on February 19 at 8 00 p.m. The troupe marks the third Artist Series presentation of the season with a group of at least six dancers plus a singer guitarist and pianist. Greco, acclaimed by the Dublin Evening Herald as master of his art, has just returned from a northern Europe tour and is on his seventh U S tour.
A Sunday evening ordination and installation ceremony at the Presbyterian Church ordained Harold Tack as elder. Rev G F Butler read the ordination service while twelve elders laid on hands. Writings by MacLeod Pyatt and Sperry framed the event alongside charges to the Elder and to the People.

The Greene junior high boys and girls teams defeated Nora Springs last Friday with scores of 38 to 32 and 23 to 14. Doug Marsh scored 14 for the Junior Ramblers while Carol Marki and Ethel Starkweather led the Junior Ramblettes with 10 points each.
