Conservation Officer James Gregory returns to duty after operations and a blood drive at Mercy Hospital in Mason City. He lost about fifteen pounds and seems healthier, while fans note wrestling and athletic memories from Bud Wolters and Sam Sneed eyeing Brunswick bowling balls with hooks.

Greene Invitational Wrestling Meet At Local High School

The second annual Greene Invitational Wrestling meet will be held Saturday January 23 at the local high school gymnasium. Preliminaries start at 2:00 PM and consolation rounds and finals at 7:00 PM. Coach Max Dougherty announces a four team field with Plainfield Gladbrook and Dike as guests. Awards will be presented in Olympic style at the close.

In Hospital Edwin Marten was taken to Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City on Saturday where he underwent treatment. Mrs. Maynard Bruce was taken to Cedar Valley Hospital Sunday night where she is undergoing treatment.

Butler County Science Seminar Highlights Archeology Lecture

About 130 high school students and teachers from Butler County heard Gene Olson of Greene discuss Archeology of North America at Dumont Monday evening January 11. It was the third of five meetings this school year with Radiation and Geology to follow and a spring trip to Ames planned.

Rambler Matmen Win Eighth Straight In Rockford Clash

Greene High wrestlers beat Rockford 19 to 16 to extend their win streak with key pins and decisions by Paulus Wihlin Allen and others. The second team also won 3 to 12 aided by forfeits as Sneed Bramer Meek and Stiles posted victories and draws. Next, Greene travels to St Ansgar then hosts invitational tourney and Riceville on January 27 at the local gym.

Local Sailor Aids California Flood Relief Effort

Machinist's Mate Fireman Apprentice David P. Ipser USN son of Mr and Mrs Harry Ipser of Greene participated in flood relief off Eureka California aboard USS Bennington. Bennington helicopters flew 162 missions delivering 161000 tons of supplies evacuated 167 people and logged 213 hours of flight time.

Swimming Pool Contract Let to Winterset Firm

Greene City Council awarded the swimming pool project to C. M. Shafer Construction Company of Winterset after two bids were opened. Shafer bid 69 390, Pascal P. Peddock of Oklahoma City bid 85 910. The pool site was set on the Ernest Kapest property between New Conservation Park and TalooR Service Station near the Sheil Rock River. fencing and landscaping plans are included.

Attended Shoe Course in Ames Reports Meeting

Bernard Wace of Clarksville and Donald of Greece attended the Sal Conservation commission’s short course in Ames last Tuesday and Wednesday. The two day program covered soil and water conservation across Iowa with presentations by agriculture speakers. The Butler District plans to expand Conservation Education at future activities, with the next meeting in January. The short course is sponsored by Iowa State University, State Soil Conservation Committee, and Iowa Association of District Commissioners.
