Conservation Officer James Gregory returns to duty after operations and a blood drive at Mercy Hospital in Mason City. He lost about fifteen pounds and seems healthier, while fans note wrestling and athletic memories from Bud Wolters and Sam Sneed eyeing Brunswick bowling balls with hooks.
The second annual Greene Invitational Wrestling meet will be held Saturday January 23 at the local high school gymnasium. Preliminaries start at 2:00 PM and consolation rounds and finals at 7:00 PM. Coach Max Dougherty announces a four team field with Plainfield Gladbrook and Dike as guests. Awards will be presented in Olympic style at the close.
In Hospital Edwin Marten was taken to Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City on Saturday where he underwent treatment. Mrs. Maynard Bruce was taken to Cedar Valley Hospital Sunday night where she is undergoing treatment.
About 130 high school students and teachers from Butler County heard Gene Olson of Greene discuss Archeology of North America at Dumont Monday evening January 11. It was the third of five meetings this school year with Radiation and Geology to follow and a spring trip to Ames planned.
O. J. Menken fell at his residence on Saturday injuring his left arm just below the elbow. He was treated and his arm placed in a cast.
Greene High wrestlers beat Rockford 19 to 16 to extend their win streak with key pins and decisions by Paulus Wihlin Allen and others. The second team also won 3 to 12 aided by forfeits as Sneed Bramer Meek and Stiles posted victories and draws. Next, Greene travels to St Ansgar then hosts invitational tourney and Riceville on January 27 at the local gym.
The B and W Food Store will lend a complete place setting of dishes for 250 people to churches schools or any civic organization hosting special dinners.
The Emmett Brannon and Matt Nixt Estate farm auction is set for next Monday January 25 with two farm locations. Arnold Hexom of Waverly is the auctioneer and directions appear in this issue. Fred Voigts holds a farm sale southwest of Greene on Thursday January 21 with C F Prange of Charles City as auctioneer.
Ramblerettes A and B teams face Clermont-Elgin at the school between the towns next Monday evening January 25. B squad starts at 7:00 pm with the varsity game to follow. Valley of Clermont-Elgin has a 114 2 record this season.
Announcement sets the Cub Scout Blue and Gold Banquet for Wednesday February 10 at 6 30 p m in the Elementary school auditorium. Jim O Dralle is Cub master directing a program with recognition ceremonies and awards. The event marks the 55th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America with the theme Strengthen America heritage.
Machinist's Mate Fireman Apprentice David P. Ipser USN son of Mr and Mrs Harry Ipser of Greene participated in flood relief off Eureka California aboard USS Bennington. Bennington helicopters flew 162 missions delivering 161000 tons of supplies evacuated 167 people and logged 213 hours of flight time.
Philip Pooley elected scholarship chairman of Spinney House in the ISU Men's Residence Hall Ames. Term runs for one year beginning 1965 start.
Mrs. Frank Lockwood, visitor to Charles City’s Cedar Valley Hospital, was discharged Monday after treatment since Saturday. She accompanied her son Fred Lockwood to Albert Lea, Minnesota, for several days’ stay.

Edson Armour Hicks 85 born October 16 1879 in Ionia Michigan died January 14 in Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City after heart complications. He lived in South Dakota and Minneapolis where he married Rubie Poole on July 31 137?. The family moved to Greene two years ago. Survived by wife four nieces. Funeral at Reid's Funeral Chapel 2:00 pm Saturday officiated by Rev G F Butler. Burial Rose Hill Cemetery.
Greene City Council awarded the swimming pool project to C. M. Shafer Construction Company of Winterset after two bids were opened. Shafer bid 69 390, Pascal P. Peddock of Oklahoma City bid 85 910. The pool site was set on the Ernest Kapest property between New Conservation Park and TalooR Service Station near the Sheil Rock River. fencing and landscaping plans are included.
Mrs. Clarence Skillen underwent major surgery at Cedar Valley Hospital on Monday morning.
Vernon Gard announces an adult art class beginning next Monday January 25 at 7:00 pm in room 27 at the high school. The 10 week course covers 20 hours of art work and costs 5.00.

Bernard Wace of Clarksville and Donald of Greece attended the Sal Conservation commission’s short course in Ames last Tuesday and Wednesday. The two day program covered soil and water conservation across Iowa with presentations by agriculture speakers. The Butler District plans to expand Conservation Education at future activities, with the next meeting in January. The short course is sponsored by Iowa State University, State Soil Conservation Committee, and Iowa Association of District Commissioners.
Lile Stauffer came home Sunday from Mercy Hospital in Macon City after undergoing surgery.
The annual stockholders meeting of the Round Grove Golf and County Club is scheduled for Thursday January 28 at 8 00 o clock. Members are urged to attend as business will be conducted regarding club affairs and governance.
Dr and Mrs William Andrews departed Monday for Des Moines to attend the State Veterinary Convention. They will proceed to Pasadena California to spend the next two months there.
The Greene Ramblerettes clinched the undisputed Com Bow title with a 9 0 conference mark and two wins over Nora Springs Clarksville and Nashua. Jerry Fischer led the Ramblers with 22 points while Steve Barnett and Mark Ott added 15 each as Greene solidified top spot.
A two day workshop at the Mental Health Institute in Independence will be held for county home matrons stewards and staff from Butler and Floyd counties. Directed by Dan Campbell director of Social Service the program aims to unify patient care practices and acquaint county home employees with hospital treatment.
