Howard Burroughs shows ingenuity in fishing on Shell Rock taking a five and a four pounder amid fog and cold. He also stored up chub minnows before freezing to access them later for fishing. New residents Mr. and Mrs. Gary Beck welcomed a son named Terry Jerome born January 8 at Mercy Hospital Mason City weighing 8 pounds 6 ounces. Mr. and Mrs. Marlyn Wunsch had a daughter Jean Anne born December 20 at Cedar Valley Hospital weighing 7 pounds 434 ounces. Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Kiehn welcomed a daughter Teresa Jeanne born January 1 at St Joseph s Mercy Hospital Waverly weighing 9 pounds 5 ounces. Grandparents are Mrs. Ruth Jewell and Mrs. Emil Kiehlen.
The Butler County Extension Council elected Norman Brown of Dumont as Chair man for 1985 at an organizational meeting. Brown represents Madison township and is in his fourth year on the council, having served as treasurer in 1964. Vernon Remis of Parkersburg was named Vice-Chairman and secretary last year. Tom Oltman of Bristow was elected secretary for 1965, with Bert Morgan of Dumont chosen treasurer. Oltman and Morgan start their second year on the council. The council governs county extension finances and educational programs.
Mr and Mrs Bob Dralle of Allison welcome a daughter born January 7 weighing 7 pounds 4 ounces named Sherry Lynn. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Lawrence Dralle of Clarksville and Mr and Mrs Raymond Wilken of Plainfield on con BACHE.
Forty six accomplishments noted by Butler Soil Conservation District officials led by Don Hagarty. Thirty farmers finished complete soil and water conservation plans, 35 new cooperators joined, 10 revised plans, seven miles of parallel bench terraces, and extensive terracing, drainage, ponds, and wildlife development across Butler County. Tech staff J. B. McAninch and Daryl Davis aided plan preparation and soil surveys for over 375 farmers.
Bruce Marsh will enter the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines on Thursday for treatment of a leg injury.

The Rambler wrestling squad extended their wins to seven in a row with no losses as they beat Plainfield 31 to 8 last Saturday and host Rockford tonight in a conference bid. Detailed match results include draws and pins from Leavens, Wihlm, Trees, Noel, and Backer among others.
The annual congregation meeting at First Presbyterian Church elected Charles Pyatt and Valeris Taylor as elders and Darrell Barth and James Mead as trustees. Their terms will run three consecutive years.
Mrs Lois Pringle of Greene underwent surgery on Monday morning at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City.
The Butler County Board of Supervisors elected Cecil W. Starkweather, representing the second district including Coldwater, as chairman at the first meeting of the new year on January 2. New member W. H. Skinner, Clarksville, representing the first district, joined alongside Harold Voss of Austinville in the three-member board. Hugh L. Mosher administered oaths to elected officials, including Vernon O. Larsen, Pete Boomgarden, Walter Wilhelm, and Robert Schoeneman. Wilhelm starts a four-year term as Clerk, succeeding Mosher who retired December 31 after serving since 1934. Selah Gever, long-time clerk, was named Clerk of Court for a time in 1934 and served as deputy since. Victor C. Woodley and Robert Klunder were elected treasurer and recorder, respectively. The Greene Recorder, Allison Tribune, Clarksville Star and Parkersburg Eclipse were designated official county newspapers. Dave Everds was named county engineer with a $9500 salary, replacing Otmar Zack, who retired after long service. Zack had earlier served as engineer since 1931, with Federal Bureau of Roads tenure from 1942, and returned to county service in 1946. The board also ended the $2 fox bounty while maintaining bounties on gophers and crow heads and wolves. The fox bounty was dropped following regional patterns, with gopher feet set at ten cents and wolves at $10.00.
Michael Dlexander of Greene faced a riding on the hood charge and paid a $10.00 fine plus $34.00 costs. Thomas John of Greene charged with a similar hood ride paid a $10.00 fine and $4.00 costs.
A three day Agricultural Engineering Short Course will be held in February for interested farmers and farm equipment personnel. Sponsored by Butler County Extension Service it runs February 4 11 and 12 at the Farm Bureau Auditorium in Allison with topics on farm power harvesting storage and tillage management. Registration is 500 for the three days with donuts and materials included. Limited to about 75 participants and applications should be submitted soon.

Members of St Peter Lutheran Church held their annual meeting in the church parlors on Thursday evening. New officers were elected and Sunday morning there were various trustees and deacons named. Herman Miller was elected delegate at large to attend the convention and August Heeren is the alternate.
A Butler County Heart of the Iowa Heart unit announces a charity drive with a workshop on Saturday January 16 at 2 00 pm at the city hall in Allison. Similar events are planned for Parkersburg and Shell Rock on January 19 as part of the Heart Fund Drive.
Greene hosts a boys 72 to 38 victory and girls 67 to 42 win as Ramblerettes and Ramblers dominate Riceville. Greene's backcourt pressure and balanced scoring pace the wins while Watertown prep notes and upcoming games at Nora Springs Clarksville and Nashua mark a busy week.

The nationally known Bishop's Company of Burbank California will perform An Enemy of the People at the Methodist Church of Gree Tuesday January 26 at p m Phyllis Beardsley directs the play. The company has staged over 6 000 performances and traveled 2 million miles in churches across the nation Tickets are sold by Methodist Youth Fellowship members.
Joan Meek Sr. of Greene had major surgery Tuesday morning at Mercy Hospital Mason City. M K Sperry of Mountain View California underwent surgery Monday at El Camino Hospital and plans to return home at 1709 Walnut Drive Mountain View this Friday.
