Eldon F. Peterson manager of Farmers Inc Co op Society has announced that they will be represented at the G2 annual convention of Farmers Grain Dealers Association of Iowa in Des Moines on January 24 25 26. Those attending include Mr and Mrs Eldon Peterson and directors and their wives Mr and Mrs Darrell Brinkman Mr and Mrs John Backer Mr and Mrs George Shultz Mr and Mrs Francis Brinkman and Mr and Mrs Edward Miller. More than 2000 delegates are expected for the meeting. They will hear Dr William R Parks President of Iowa State University deliver the keynote address on Monday afternoon January 24.
Kenneth E. Hart announces the 1966 signup for wheat and feed grains begins January 31 with a April 1 deadline. CAP signup starts January 31 with an announced deadline later. Producers who file intentions under CPA but don’t enter final agreements have 15 days to file applications after withdrawal or notice of no agreement. Programs require diversions of crop acreage to approved conserving uses, yielding payments or loans.
Mr and Mrs Arthur Stark of Charles City announce the birth of a son born Saturday morning January 15 at Floyd County Veterans Memorial Hospital. He weighs 7 pounds 13 ounces and is named Heath Clair. Grandparents are Clair Starkweather Greene and Howard Stonecypher Floyd and great grandparents Roy Starkweather and Mrs Arthur Pagles Greene.
The February 1966 term of Butler County District Court will convene February 9 with Hon. C. H. Wild of Waverly presiding. Trial jurors are to report February 28 at 10:00 a.m. The grand jury will appear February 10 at 4:00 p.m. and lists by township name jurors and grand jurors.
Mr and Mrs Francis Brink and Mr and Mrs John Backer of Greene represented Farmer's Inc Co op Society on a four day tour to a new phosphate plant in St Petersburg Florida They were among 164 Iowans on a chartered jet from Des Moines to St Petersburg departing Friday noon returning Monday noon The group toured Consumer Cooperative Association new multi million dollar phosphate plant and visited other area points of interest
The Youth Center will be open Friday evening after the basketball game until 11:30 p.m. It will also be open Saturday evening after the wrestling tournament. A hamburger fry will be held on Saturday evening.
Fifty three young North Iowa farmers enrolled in the Farm Operators Short Course at Mason City. Francis Belknap of Greene attends. Course runs twelve weeks starting January 6. Topics include farm management livestock production agricultural engineering and soil and crop management. Meetings held at Cerro Gordo County Extension Office on Mason City south edge.
Greene leaders report steps to clear trees from the river island as flood risk rises. The Junior Chamber of Commerce backs the effort with Natural Resources Commission permission, while local businessmen donate equipment and funds. Work begins immediately with anticipated weekend labor and ongoing community support.
New Daughters born in Iowa with two families announcing births. Shallaine Marie is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Donald W McBurney born January 12 at Floyd County Veterans Memorial Hospital Charles City. Beverly Ann is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Edward Fuoss born January 17 at Waverly Hospital weighing 8 pounds 6 34 ounces.
Lyle Bud Shultz returned home Friday from Floyd Hospital in Charles City where he had been in treatment since Monday.
People will be free to help. The project will continue until all the trees are cut down and either burned or removed, though this may take several weeks. Those that wish to donate help and equipment are urged to stop in at Gary's Sinclair or to call 823-4512 or 823-4532.
The Rambler matmen placed second in the Corn Bowl Conference after losing to Nashua 23 18. They had earlier tied for first with Nashua and Riceville after a 45 3 win over Nora Springs. Doug Trees, Noel and Allen Trees remained undefeated in duals, with notable results across weight classes including Behnke's 5 2 decision and Leavens, Wihlin and Van Raden pins. The Rambler B squad dominated Nora Springs 51 0, while Nashua beat the Ramblers 23 18 to keep the top tie. The next schedule includes Greene hosting an invitational meet this Saturday and duals against Plainfield on January 25.
A Cub Scout Pack meeting will be held at the elementary school on Wednesday January 26 at 7 30 p m. All parents are urged to attend as preparations for the Blue and Gold banquet on February 16 will be made. The opening ceremonies and the program are in charge of Bear Den No 1.
Ted DeBerg of Bennezette township was elected chairman of the Butler County Extension Council for 1966 succeeding Norman Brown of Dumont. Elected vice chairman was Lloyd Miller, secretary Vernon Reints, and treasurer Reed Weinberg. The council includes members from Beaver to West Point townships and oversees the Extension educational program and finances with contact encouraged from residents.
Greene will host an invitational wrestling tournament on Saturday January 22 with matches starting at 1 30 p m at the high school gym and continuing through the evening A second session begins at 7 00 p m Towns invited include Gladbrook Dike and Plainfield Twenty four matches are slated in the afternoon and the same number in the evening Medals and ribbons will be awarded to winners.
Dixon Marsh of Greene wins the 1965 Floyd County Master Corn Growers Contest with 138.75 bushels per acre. Russell Staudt of Marble Rock takes Soybean honors with 38.75 bushels per acre and notes include Staudt's 1964 soybean win. Lew Stewart of Charles City places second in corn with 132.02 and William Fluhrer is third at 131.96. other corn entrants include Hed dens, Staudt, Will ert, Bonzer, Ram ker, Enabnit, Pyatt, Melcher, Funte, Nauman and McGregor Brothers. In beans, Nauman of Marble Rock is second with 37.88. other bean entrants include Morse, Pennington, Vetter, Winners and Enabnit.
The University of Iowa hosted the second annual Iowa Invitational Guidance Leadership Conference on January 10 or 14. Forty seven participants included Guy Olson and Gerald Stephenson, both North Central Iowa Personnel and Guidance Association officers. Lectures covered Iowa Tests of Basic Skills and Educational Development, the SICF program, ACT, and the Iowa Educational Information Center. The group toured the Measurement Research Center and viewed a machine that can grade over 35,000 answer sheets per hour.
Ken Sutton's Ramblerettes sealed a Corn Bowl Conference championship with a 9 0 record, adding wins over Nora Springs and Nashua. Greene topped Nora Springs 83 60 as Peg Willey and M Rottler led with strong outside shooting and a 45 31 halftime edge, while Gabe and Barnett contributed in the late surge. Jerry Fischer led all scorers with 36 for Greene in the upset bid.
Ten men from Butler County were inducted into the Armed Forces in January. They left on January 4. Inductees include Merrill D. Olt Mann of Allison, Ralph R. McCready of Allison, James L. Bruns of Allison, Joseph John Squires of Greene, Doyle W. Kramer of Parkersburg, John A. Korth of Shell Rock, Delbert L. Griner of Dumont, Roger L. Jacobs of Clarksville, Ronald A. Paulsen of Plainfield, and Charles E. Wabbena of Bristow. Navy enlistment adds Charles E. Wabbena and Perry V. Green for Navy and Marine Corps respectively with January departure dates January 6 and January 7.

Kay A Connelly announces a two day farm and home management school in Allison focusing on net income management records and workshop sessions. Dates February 8 and 15 from 9 30 am to 3 00 pm at the Extension office with a 2 00 per couple advance fee including materials and refreshments. L J Bodensteiner Roberta Reckler and Connelly will present.
Mr and Mrs William Steere Jr and Peggy returned home Monday night after spending the weekend visiting their son and brother Pvt Charles W Steere at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri. They traveled through the Ozarks and the Shepard of the Hills country near Branson Missouri.
Two February meetings in Parkersburg and Allison invite all persons aged 65 and over or nearing that age to learn about the new Medicare and Social Security hospital and medical insurance provisions. Leonard Campbell of SSA will discuss coverage, registration, and optional insurance, with registrants needed to enroll for hospital insurance by July 1 1966. Attendance urged for all interested residents.
