Butler County adopts 1974 road construction program
The Butler County Board of Supervisors and the Iowa State Highway Commission approve a $871,000 1974 road program. Plans include resurfacing and shoulder work on 11 miles of farm to market roads, paving 1.5 miles, 8 miles of local grading, 2 new bridges, culvert extensions on 8 miles of seal coat roads, and carryover projects from 1973. Funding splits $500,000 Local Road Use Tax and $371,000 Farm to Market Road Use Tax.

Daylight Saving Shifts Start Times for Area Schools
The Greene Community School District will begin classes at 9:00 a.m. from January 14 through February 15 due to daylight saving time and icy conditions, with dismissal at 3:15 p.m. The Allison Bristow Community School Board also announced 9:00 a.m. starts until March 1. Clarksville schools will start at 9:00 a.m. in January and February and revert to 8:30 a.m. on March 1.

McGrane rites in Elma set for 11 a.m. Tuesday
Services for Emmett McGrane 99 who died Friday at St Joseph’s Hospital in New Hampshire will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Church Elma with burial at Calvary Cemetery. He reportedly was Elma’s oldest resident. Survived by wife Elizabeth one son Orval of St Paul Minn two daughters Mrs Cliff Stratton Elma and Mrs Dell Curtis Greene fourteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
