Mrs Don Tindall Greene will present a dolls program at the Woman's Club of Greene on Tuesday January 15 at 730 pm in the Community Center. The area representative for the Town Department of Revenue will be at the Butler Co Courthouse every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. beginning February 6, 1974, through July 31, 1974. He assists taxpayers in completing property tax and rent relief forms for senior citizens and the disabled. Forms are available from the County Treasurer or County Recorder. The form is detailed and may require a follow up visit. The representative will answer questions on sales tax withholding tax and offer assistance in any way possible.
Ensign Richard I L Knight and Mrs Shari Knight visited his parents Mr and Mrs Kenneth Knight in San Diego California while on a 30 day leave. Richard will be assigned as Service Officer on the LST Racine.
Mrs Iva June Barnett 51 died Saturday January 5 at Floyd County Memorial Hospital. Born June 22 1922 in Greene she lived in Charles City formerly Greene. Survived by daughter Marilyn Merfeld three sons Dean Roland Steve Albuquerque NM Dary Charles City mother Mrs Clifford Smith Charles City eight grandchildren five sisters and burial at Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev Donald Wahlgren officiating.
The Greene Public Library will resume Story Hour this Saturday afternoon January 12 from 1 15 to 2 p m Children are asked to use the side door as usual for the event.
Luther College will host its 23rd Dorian Vocal Festival on Sun and Mon January 2021 with 700 plus students from 202 high schools in Town Minnesota and Wisconsin. Greene students Steven Tower Brian Frevert Rhonda Helm and Mark Stephenson join the lineup. Dr. Charles C Hirt USC will guest conduct the festival chorus. The grand concert is Monday January 21 at 7 30 p m in Luther Field House with the Nordic Choir also performing. Local recitals and concerts follow Sunday and Monday open to the public.
The Butler County Assessor will visit Greene City Hall January 14 to 16, for residents of A through H, I through Q, and A through 2. He will then travel to Aredale General Store and Bristow Town Hall January 22 for A through Z, with 9 am to 4:30 pm slots. On January 24 he will be at the Allison Jail Building for A through Z. Residents unable to attend may go to the Allison Courthouse.
Peoples Natural Gas will raise rates starting January 21 1974 affecting all firm and interruptible customers. The typical residential bill will rise about 11 dollars yearly, a 5.8 percent increase, matching higher wholesale costs from Northern Natural Gas. Peoples serves about 100000 customers in 106 Iowa communities.
Kenneth R Smith named chairman of the Butler County Republican Central Committee succeeding Clifford Burroughs. Smith, owner of Culligan Soft Water Service Allison, will lead party efforts after Burroughs moved to the 19th District Senate seat in a November special election to fill the Vernon Kyrle vacancy in Parkersburg.
Jan Wegannett returns home January 3 for a 14 day leave with his parents in Nashua and his grandparents. He will receive seven weeks of classroom training and hand to hand combat at Gulfport before deployment to Port Hueneme California.

The Dorian Vocal Festival, once featuring about 20 area high schools, has expanded to surpass any all-state performance in the Midwest, marking a major rise in prominence for early and modern folk music interpretations.
Butler County will open bids for the new courthouse on January 23 at 3 p.m. The project, costing up to 920000, follows a 710000 bond approved May 22 1973. Architects are Cervetti Weber of Marshalltown with local meetings and a state conference planned in Des Moines June 13 14.
A state wide prime time TV event hosted by Harry Reasoner will air as IOWA 2000 an hourlong broadcast to engage Iowans in shaping their future. The Sun Jan 13 program will be shown across Iowa stations and KETV Omaha with start times from 6 30 p.m. to 9 p.m. across listed outlets.

A day long corn soybean clinic will be held on Wednesday January 16 at the IPS Building in Charles City. Floyd County Extension Director Robert McCrackin says Iowa State University specialists Dale Studt and Dr Regis Voss will discuss 1973 crop problems 1974 solutions energy saving tips fertilizer and herbicide use corn hybrids and yield increasing practices plus a short film on safe use of chemicals.
An anhydrous ammonia demonstration is listed as part of the Floyd County Extension Educational program. The clinic runs from 9 30 am to 3 30 pm and welcomes farmers and agricultural suppliers with no registration fee. Lloyd Bigler was appointed as a member of the President's Advisory Council of North rup, King & Co. Bigler recently returned from Mexico City and Acapulco where they attended company meetings.
