Classes in reconditioning electric motors will be offered at Greene High School starting Tuesday January 20 if enough interest is shown. The course spans 10 sessions of two hours each for a total fee of ten dollars with Don McGee as instructor. For information call Greene High School 823 5631.
Mrs Genevieve du Jondhay received word by cable of the sudden death of her daughter Louise Besancon in Paris France on Saturday January 10 at age 56. She is survived by her husband Andre and her two sons Phillip and Thierry and one daughter Catherine.
Funeral services for Bertha Geneva Baxter 88, former Greene area resident, who died Friday at 120 Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City, were held Tuesday at Hauser Funeral Home with burial in Rockford. Born January 25 1887 in Missouri, she is survived by four daughters, 23 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, with her husband and two sons deceased.
Lawrence Leerhoff 62 of 1864 Independence Ave Waterloo died Monday at home of an apparent heart attack. Services were held Thursday at Kearns-Dykeman Chapel Waterloo with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery Parkersburg. He was born November 22 1913 in Parkersburg son of Heiko and Alma Hoodjer Leerhoff. He married Ramona Sylvester in Greene May 23 1943. He worked at Bath Packing Co 16 years then farmed 10 years retiring in 1972. Survivors include his wife three brothers Heiko Clifford Clarence and two sisters Grace and Lela Leerhoff.
Riley Campbell Sr. 86 of a farm east of Rudd died last Tuesday night after cancer. His son Riley Jr. died two years ago. Survived by wife Bertha, three grandchildren Bruce attorney in Des Moines, Boyd on the farm, two brothers Alvin D. of Charles City and J B of Ickesburg, Pa. Preceded by a sister and another brother. Funeral services at Nora Springs Funeral Home, burial Evergreen Cemetery, Rudd.
The second session to study Land Use Issues is set for Wednesday evening Jan 21 from 7 30 to 9 30 at the Public Library in Allison. Dale Thoreson Butler County Extension Director says the first session Dec 2 drew favorable reports and attendees urged further study of the Land Use controversy. Clair Hein area resource development specialist will lead the discussion focusing on the proposed State Land Use Policy bill for the 1976 legislative session and which level of government should develop and administer a land use plan if passed.
Greene placed well at the Tripoli Invitational with tough entrants from Janesville Denver Turkey Valley Nashua Plainfield Wapsie Valley and Tripoli. Barry Delp and Denny Delp finished second, Troy Marshall fourth, while Al Steils Ron Smith and Mark Adams faced early exits with several others advancing to later rounds.
Greene High School wrestlers defeated Parkersburg 38 to 20 despite missing three weight classes. The team gave up 18 forfeit points but held Parkersburg to 10 in matches. Notable results include Kendall Vry pinning at 98 pounds and Mark Adams defeating Dave LaVelle 7-0. Greene hosts an invitational this Saturday January 17 with Plainfield Rockford Denver Lake Mills Ackley Geneva Mason City Newman Janesville and Greene entries.
Mark Aries of Turkey Valley took first at 132 with Arjes second. John Downing fell to Kevin Westendorf at 138, who claimed the tournament title. Dennis Delp beat Dave Sheridan then Ed Baethke before losing to Rustie Kane in the finals. Smalley won at 170 after defeating Tim Smalley. Barry Delp beat Jim Bruns then Kevin Kaufman before losing to Wayne Smith in the final. Scott Hildebrand dropped to Tom Little at heavyweight in the first round.

Butler County assessors will visit multiple towns in Greene Recorder area to assist taxpayers with personal assessments and exemptions. Dates include January 14 in Clarksville Amvet Building for A through K and January 15 for L through Z, with 9 AM to 4:30 PM. Additional sessions cover Dumont, Greene, Aredale, Bristow, and Allison locations. Dog vaccination proof required, signing by either spouse, and no house calls.
The Greene Sportsman's Club invites farmers landowners and tenants to a free stag oyster supper on Wednesday January 14 at 6 p.m. at the Greene Community Center. At 7:30 p.m. Dick Nomsen and Bob Carpenter will show slides and discuss methods to increase pheasant habitat.

The Democratic caucus for Coldwater Township will meet Monday January 19 at 8:00 p.m. in City Hall Greene Iowa. Attendees will select delegates to the county convention who will then be named to the district and state conventions.
Major Paul D. Mather led the escort as three Air Force fliers were repatriated from Hanoi. He traveled with four congressmen to Bangkok, then back to the United States. The JCRC said more trips to Vietnam may follow to resolve remaining missing in action cases. Major Mather will continue Southeast Asia duty.
Community club leadership asks Greene Iowa business owners to contribute 25 dollars yearly to fund events like Pancake Days River Days Fourth of July fireworks and Christmas activities. Associate memberships welcomed. dues support year round town programs and a possible special assessment.
Emmett Hanley 95 of Greene died Monday night at Mathers Nursing Home. Services will be Thursday January 15 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Marys Catholic Church with burial in St. Marys Cemetery. The Rosary will be held Wednesday night at 8:00 p.m. at Reid's Funeral Chapel Greene.
The Woman's Club of Greene meets Tuesday January 20 at 1 30 p m in the Community Center basement. An international affairs theme will feature the story of Vietnamese families living in Charles City. All residents are invited to attend.
Greene firefighters responded at 5:30 a.m. to a trailer blaze at the Andy Etzen farm destroying the structure and its contents including citizen band radios and televisions. Investigators believe a malfunctioning furnace caused the fire as crews spent about two hours at the scene.
The Greene Community School Board met January 12 and adopted a staff reduction plan and revised the hot lunch policy to extend reduced price and free lunches to eligible students. The staff plan requires teachers to be rated equally on experience education and principals evaluation. No action was taken pending teachers ratification of the master contract.
