Mrs Lucie M Rawlf of Englewood New Jersey spent the Christmas holidays at the home of her son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs Elis Bammann and Mace and also visited friends during the festive period.
Paul FE Shafer 72 of Greene dies Sunday at Iowa Methodist Hospital Des Moines after five months illness. Born July 22 1892 in Packard he attended Greene High School Cornell College Mt Vernon 1915 and earned a BA. He taught and coached in Iowa Wisconsin North Dakota later guiding Wahpeton schools. He owned a variety store Oelwein 1923 1933 and served as Fayette County social welfare director 1933 1944. He married Maude Lovell in 1914. she died 1958. In 1959 he married Libbie Lovell. Surviving: Libbie wife sister Maude Reynolds three sons Paul L Shafer Everett Shafer Don Shafer five grandchildren one great grandson. Funeral today at Reid's Funeral Chapel with Rev Wayne Gjerde. Burial Rose Hill Cemetery.
Curtis Kyhl the son of State Senator Vernon Kyhl of Parkersburg will travel to work with the G H Walker Co investment firm in Waterloo after becoming a registered representative of the New York Stock Exchange. He trained with Walker in New York City and St Louis and has spent five months at the Waterloo office. Kyhl, a Parkersburg High School and Iowa State University graduate, will live in Waterloo at 501 West 4th Street with wife Nancy Squires and their three children Cary Clinton and Kimberly.
Texas judge and Mrs Henry N Gra ven returned from New York City after a Christmas assignment. They have left for Houston where he will take another federal court assignment.
Mrs Fannie Shultz announces the sale of the Corner Dress Shop to Darlene D Ray of Greene wife of Charles Ray as of January 1 1965. Shultz and Starkweather bought the shop from Helen Hoel in 1945 and 1958 respectively and the business will retain the Corner Dress Shop name.
Attendants Miss Ann Hagarty and Miss Elizabeth Hagarty attended funeral services for Craig Harrington at St Patrick's Church in Hampton. Craig, 2 years 8 months, died from a virus infection. He was the son of Mr and Mrs William Harrington of Hampton and survived by sister Karlyn, 19 months, and brother Paul, 6 months.
Fred Daugs of Robbinsdale Minnesota set a new Iowa Official Big Fish Records rainbow trout state mark. He broke it twice within three days first with a seven pound rainbow 26 1/4 inches on December 22 in Bloody Run Creek Allamakee County then with a nine pound six ounce rainbow 27 inches two days later in French Creek Adamakee County, both on Colorado spinners.
Mayor Kamker's Court in Greene charged Merlin Schuknecht with failing to yield the right of way. He paid a five dollar fine and four dollar court cost.
County Clerk of Court reports 1964 income from inheritance taxes totaling $33,346.04 paid to Iowa. Largest estate tax paid was $8,028.23, smallest $9.62. Marriage licenses rose to 123. births and deaths noted with county counts and out-of-county deaths. Probate estates 166 including guardianships and trusts. civil actions 166 with various subcategories. Revenue into the clerk’s office totaled $109,063.59 with allocations to office fees, fines, sheriff’s, jury, and trust funds.
Double funeral services for Maude Stevens 91 and her niece Helen Oehmke 69 were held at First Methodist Church Greene. Stevens born December 24 1873 Greene lived there most of life, married Lorenzo Stevens 1892, two children Harold and Genevieve, survived by family. Oehmke born 1895 in Minneapolis died December 31 in Wilmington Delaware, married Frank Oehmke, later resided in Wilmington, survived by relatives. Both buried Rose Hill Cemetery. Reis Funeral Chapel arranged.

The Greene Town Council announces the planning stage for the new community swimming pool is finished. Five sites were reviewed with Koester property chosen for best access, ground, drainage and parking. The gift from Mrs. W. H. Buchholz includes riverfront landscaping and a fenced pool area near Conservation Park, offering family recreation and easy access to downtown shopping. Progress will be reported as construction moves forward when weather allows.
Iowa State University textiles expert Opal Roberson will headline the Wardrobe Management Meeting in Allison at the Farm Bureau Auditorium on January 13 from 1 30 to 3 30 p m. Roberson will cover clothing selection figure types and design to ease figure problems with live models. All Butler County women are invited to attend the event organized by the Extension Home Economics program committee.
The Butler County Extension Service reports 1964 activities under Kay A. Connelly. Milton De Neuf led the council with 267 meetings drawing 10,884 attendees. Staff conducted 1253 farm visits, issued 11,300 bulletins, and produced 444 news articles plus 29 radio segments. Major programs covered swine, dairy, farm and home management, 4-H, soil and weed control, and community development, aided by volunteers and the Extension Council.
