Winnebago Council Boy Scouts announces an all time high of 5030 registered members across 165 packs troops and posts for 1967 ending. The 5000th scout Mike Wood is registered in Troop 62 Osage Iowa with master Robert Barrick. A special medallion event is set for February 5 at Holy Family Auditorium Mason City.
Walter Bass, a sales tax inspector for Iowa, will be at the Allison Court House Thursday January 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. People with questions or problems about sales or service tax may see him there.
The eighth grade Ramblerettes beat Nashua Allison and Dumont to improve to three wins. Greene's squad defeated Nashua 14 to 6 on December 20 and 28 to 25 on January 5, then 35 to 9 on January 6, with guard standouts Lois Rover Marta Woodley Mary Tefft and Theresa Schafer. Marcia Behnke scored 12 11 and 10 points and Colleen Kehoe had 10 in Allison and Dumont games. The seventh graders lost all three to Nashua Allison and Dumont by scores 17 to 6 38 to 7 and 27 to 12 respectively.
Ben Wall of Avon South Dakota died Monday afternoon January 8 at Wagner Community Hospital after a two months illness. Survived by wife Margaret Ray three sons and two daughters. Funeral set for Thursday January 11 at Presbyterian Church Avon. Body to be shipped to Greene for prayer services Friday at Reid's Funeral Chapel. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery Greene.
Mr and Mrs Richard Timmer of Moline Holinois announce the birth of a son named John Douglas on December 30. The child weighed 8 pounds 4 ounces and has a 4 year old brother named David. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Vern Wilkins of Greene and Mr and Mrs Harm Timmer of Shell Rock.
The social security law signed by President Johnson raises benefits for about 3,100 people in Butler County. Minimum 65 year old workers rise from 44 to 55 dollars. average retiree from 86 to 98. couple’s average from 145 to 165. Checks arrive March 2 as early delivery, with automatic increase for all beneficiaries.
Jerry Biekert five year old son of Mr and Mrs Arnold Biekert received a checkup at Mayo Clinic Rochester Minnesota. He was admitted to St Marys Hospital Rochester on Tuesday and underwent surgery Wednesday morning. He will remain in the Pediatrics Ward for ten days.
High school students aiming to enroll at North Iowa Area Community College for 1968 69 must take the American College Testing Program battery on February 17 in the NIACC Main Building. Registration is due January 17. forms are available from high school counselors or NIACC Admissions Director. Dr. Frank Hoffman notes ACTs are required for guidance but do not determine admission.
Ramblers wrestling team loses to Saint Ansgar 27 21 and to Nashua 24 22 in tight dual meets. Key results include Dieterich and Leavens securing decisions for Saint Ansgar and Trees and Meek each picking up wins for the Ramblers. The team travels to Iowa Falls this Friday.

The January 3 extension council meeting elected Aaron Jewell of Greene as chairman Melvin Stoker as vice chairman Eugene Lindaman as secretary and Richard Folkerts as treasurer for 1968 The council list includes Alden Brocka Ernest Gutknecht Ted Deberg Mrs Vernon Hassman Minor Dix Reed Weinberg Roy Edeker Jefferson Robert Kampman Lee Jepsen and Oren Johnson plus LeRoy Meyer Washington Aredale State Bank was chosen as the County Agricultural Education Fund depositor County Fixtension Director Gary Frahm urged ideas on program needs and invited suggestions to council members.

Greene County Farm Bureau announces a January 15 noon fish fry and kick-off at the Farm Bureau auditorium in Allison. Chuck Underwood of Des Moines will speak. The 1968 goal is 1460 Butler County members. over 900 old members paid dues and 41 new members have joined. Thirty seven county workers will bus to Des Moines January 11 for the State Captains meeting in preparation for the drive.
The Greene junior high Ramblers split with Dumont on Saturday. Seventh graders lost 26 to 23 and tied 13 to 13 at halftime, while eighth graders won 36 to 32. Scorers included David Eimers 13 and Tim Hamilton for Greene. Dumont leaders Greg Anderson 11 and Wendell Kampmann 14.
The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of London appears at Wartburg College Waverly Iowa on January 14 at 8:00 p.m. in Knight Gym. Conductor Vaclav Neumann leads Britten Stravinsky Brahms works with tickets by mail phone or box office.
Appendectomy performed on 11 year old patient Appendectomy DeLaine Freeseman son of Mr and Mrs William Freeseman Sunday afternoon at Floyd County Memorial Hospital Charles City in an emergency procedure.
Paul Kramer of Aredale won the Franklin County Official Master Corn Growing Contest with a yield of 166.39 bushels per acre. He farmed in Buller County and qualified by land proximity. Butler County had no contest this year. Kramer was also the 1966 Butler County winner with 142.41 bushels per acre, the county record. Second place went to Don Butson of Hampton with 157.04 bushels per acre.
A floor covering display will be held in Allison on Tuesday January 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The exhibit features hard and soft coverings, fibers and blends, care tips, and trends. June Brown of Iowa State University will present 1:30 to 2:30 on soft covering trends. Sponsored by the Extension Home Economies Committee with local dealers.
A special second semester course for licensed nurses in the NIAD Area will be offered by North Iowa Area Community College through the Adult Education Office. The program titled Drug Administration for Licensed Nurses includes 25 hours of class work and 5 hours of clinicals in hospitals. Lead instructor is Mrs. Kim Rute RN, with legal, dosage, and adverse reaction information presented by an attorney and a pharmacist.
Ramblership St Ansgar led the conference race with a 63 to 61 win over Greene. The team announced stores in Greene will close at 8:00 PM this Saturday and remain closed through March.

Greene Ramblers defeated St Ansgar 63 to 61 in overtime to seize first in the Corn Bowl with a 4 0 conference record while St Ansgar stood at 2 1. Rich Siemens scored 18 to pace Greene, supported by Stuntz 14 Shultz 12 and Eimers 10 as Greene shot 36.7 percent to 51.2 for St Ansgar.
Mrs. Alice Bone, 73, died Tuesday evening January Sth at Mercy Hospital in Towa City after a short illness. Survivors: sons Harrison of Greene and Melvin of Iowa City, daughter Verla Bearbower of Coralville, one granddaughter and three grandsons. Husband Chester preceded her in death. The Bones lived in Greene 1944 to 1951. Funeral services will be held in Riverside on Friday.
David Markle underwent surgery on Wednesday January 3rd at Flood County Memorial Hospital in Charles.
