Conservation tillage expands in Floyd County to 19560 acres
Ivan Salmons, District Conservationist for the USDA Soil Conservation Service, reports that conservation tillage grew from almost zero five years ago to nearly 19560 acres now in Floyd County. A recent SCS survey shows more than 465 farmers shifted from moldboard plows to conservation tillage methods to improve corn and soybean seedbeds. Salmons notes the practice can substantially reduce wind and water erosion.
