Greene will begin enforcing stop signs at railroad crossings after a state rail officials request amid rising crossing accidents. Sight-distance issues from box cars and hills complicate streets. Traer Street crossing with lights offers warning. Tonight the Commercial Club meets, about five attendees and fifty critics expected.
The Greene Rams beat North Central of Manles Fridnight 69 to 39 to stay one game behind Rockford and St Ansgar in the Corn Bowl Conference. Eimers led scoring with 23 as seven players dented the scoring column and the Rams controlled the boards 37 to 29. The big test comes Friday at undefeated Rockford, a team they haven’t beaten since 1966.
The Greene Rams and Ramblerettes travel to Rockford for two Corn Bowl Conference battles. The Ramblerettes and Warriorettes are undefeated in league play with Rockford at 12 0 overall and Greene at 11 2. Rockford ranked No 4 in the state, averaging 89 points per game. In the boys game Rockford is undefeated in conference play while Greene has one league loss.
Greene Ramblerettes stay perfect at home improving to 11-2 with a 61 47 victory over Manly. Linda Crumvey led with 26 points 5 rebounds and 8 assists while Rosy Needham added 25 points 4 rebounds and 13 free throws. Senior guards Diane Miller Kathi Larson contributed solid defense and rebounding as Greene outrebounded their foes.
The Greene Commercial Club will meet at City Hall tonight January 10 at 7 30 PM. Officers will be elected and plans discussed for the coming year. Members and supporters are urged to attend to keep the club active.
The Greene Jaycees host the Regional Winter Regional on Saturday January 13 at the Community Center in Greene. About 40 chapters are expected to attend with more than 450 Jaycees. Highlights include the speak-up contest leading to state, the ladies program with Flowers and Things demonstrations, and featured speaker Roger Poppen past state president.

Community members may express interest in adult instruction to Mr Urban Langer at the High School. Classes require at least ten registered paid participants and can cover sewing art women's physical recreation welding upholstering or other topics. North Iowa Area Community College administers statewide adult classes, but Greene classes will be held locally at the high school.

The Community Chorus plans a Palm Sunday concert on April 15 and begins rehearsals at 4 p.m. in the High School vocal room. Rehearsals start Sunday January 14, and anyone wishing to sing is welcome and invited to join.
U S Air Force Chaplain Col Vincent C Merfeld of Dougherty Iowa received the Legion of Merit for outstanding service while base chaplain at Tan Son Nhut AB Vietnam from Sept 1971 to Sept 1972. He was honored at Offutt AFB Nebraska where he serves as installation chaplain in the SAC 3902nd Air Race Wing.
