Former Law Clerk Dies in Burlington
Judge Arthur D. Peterson age 37 municipal court judge in Burlington died at his apartment home from an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound on Sunday. His father T A Peterson told officers he had gone to his son's apartment to discuss threats and abusive telephone calls the son had reported. Des Moines County Attorney William Hilldreth will investigate the alleged calls as well as complaints the father has received since the death. Peterson had served as a law clerk for Judge Henry Graven in Greene from 1959 to 1960.

School Art Room Needs and Upgrades Outlined
The district outlines needed art room upgrades in both Elementary and Junior Senior High buildings. The Elementary art area lacks a dedicated room and storage, forcing the teacher to cart supplies between rooms and disrupt other classes. The Junior High Senior High art room is too small and poorly separated from academics, needing a larger space and separate storage.

Doug Trees Wins District Wrestling Grown Advancing to State Tourney
Doug Trees son of Mr and Mrs Duane Trees won the 112 pound class in the district wrestling tournament at Tripoli and advanced to the state tournament at Waterloo this weekend. Trees, a junior, had previous high placements and defeated John Buck Britt Dave Pike Grundy Center and Greg Clemons Dike by close decisions. Duane Leavens and Steve Stuntz also wrestled in the district meet in the 120 and 145 pound classes with mixed results. The state tournament at McElroy Auditorium runs Friday and Saturday March 1 and 2 with first rounds for Class A Friday evening and AA Friday afternoon.

Iowa Educators Attend Atlantic City Convention
Mr and Mrs Galen Miller and Supt and Mrs V J Tatum attended the American Association of School Administrators Annual Convention in Atlantic City New Jersey last week. Three chartered flights were arranged for Iowa Board members and superintendents traveling from Sioux City Des Moines and Cedar Rapids. About 35000 school people registered for the event which featured top speakers an exhibit of materials and equipment and time with an architectural firm regarding a proposed building program. Firemen Called For 3 Grass Fires
The Greene Fire Department extinguished three grass fires since last Wednesday. The first started at 2:20 p.m. on the Eldred Mather farm near a road ditch threatening the Wilbur Klassi residence. The second occurred Thursday at 10:55 a.m. near the Louis Nettleton farm as county crews battled a brush fire spreading to a ditch and field. The third, at 5:35 p.m. Thursday, was along the railroad right of way north of Gabe and Hamilton Implement Co where machinery yard sparks fed a grass blaze. No damages were reported. Fire Chief Lowell Maxson urged extreme caution when burning refuse and debris as dry grass spreads quickly.
