Luther College Dorian Band Festival Comes To Decorah

Music students from 88 high schools across Minnesota Iowa and Wisconsin will gather March 1 2 for Luther College s 13th annual Dorian Band Festival in Decorah The event sponsored by the Dorian Music Society features a massed band concert a flute recital auditions ensembles a directors session and a pre tour appearance by the Luther College Concert Band Participants include Ray Holtz director and students Charlene Young Vae Brinkman Martha Stuntz Eldred Kingery.

Quota Set for Freedom Bond Drive in Butler County

John McWhirter of Allison, the county savings bonds chairman, announced Butler County's Freedom Bond Drive quota at 600652 dollars. The drive runs May and June, with all first six months of 1962 sales counting toward the quota. The theme is Underwrite your country's might and citizens are urged to Buy an extra bond. Butler County already has 97688 dollars in Series E and H sales for January.

Social Security Agent to Visit Allison Courthouse

A Social Security Administration representative from Waterloo will be in Allison at the Court House on March 8 and 22 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon to help residents file applications for old age survivors and disability insurance benefits and to obtain social security numbers and employer identification numbers. Boy Scouts Camp Overnight Near Crabapple Creek

A group of SOY Scouts led by John Mead camped out Saturday night about 2% miles from town beyond Crabapple Creek. They cooked meals over a camp fire and used two tents with straw bedding. Scouts include Bruce Hites Roger Clark Bill Walker Jimmy Kingery Jim Drake Jerry Fischer and Dick Fischer. They returned home Sunday afternoon.

Extension Council Plans 1962 63 County Program

The Buller County Extension Council outlines plans for the 1962 63 program. Kay Connelly says six committees will set key emphasis areas: live stock and Marketing, Crops and Soils, Farm and Home Management, Public Affairs, Family Living, and Youth. Meetings are scheduled in March to finalize the plan for April approval.

Rixty Johnson born December 29 1888 Germany died February 19 in Waverly after a lingering illness. She married Menno Johnson March 22 1916 Waterloo and farmed near Parkersburg Greene before moving to Greene in 1958. Survived by husband three children ten grandchildren two brothers and several sisters. Funeral at First Presbyterian Church Greene with Rev G F Butler burial Rose Bill Cemetery. Industrial Arts Class Receives 10 HP Outboard Engine

Greene Community School's Industrial Arts Department received a 10 horsepower Evinrude outboard engine from the Evinrude Corporation via local dealer Lyle Maxson. The addition supports engine mechanics training and water safety, expanding marine servicing opportunities for students. In Hospital Bert Kooley was admitted to Spahn Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas, for treatment. His daughter Mrs Vern Rottler traveled there to visit family.

The Greene Fire Department was dispatched to the Ivan Stock residence north of Greene about 2 30 p m Thursday afternoon. The blaze caused little damage to the house owned by Mrs John Blake.

MacLeods Return From Florida Trip

H G MacLeod and Mrs MacLeod returned Monday night from a two weeks vacation in Florida. They visited Mrs MacLeod's brother in law and sister Mr and Mrs J M MacIntosh of Sault Ste Marie Ontario who were wintering in Clearwater. They also toured Bach Tower Cypress Gardens Tarpon Springs Fort Myers and Sarasota.

Deaf offer opportunity in Iowa data processing

Governor Norman Erbe proposed a new horizon of opportunity for the deaf in the coming age of computers in business and government. He asked the State Board of Regents to boost data processing and key punch training at the Iowa School for the Deaf in Council Bluffs, noting the strong record of deaf operators and exploring state and local government use as a proving ground. He has discussed the plan with computer companies, vocational rehabilitation, and the state comptroller.
