John McWhirter of Allison, the county savings bonds chairman, announced Butler County's Freedom Bond Drive quota at 600652 dollars. The drive runs May and June, with all first six months of 1962 sales counting toward the quota. The theme is Underwrite your country's might and citizens are urged to Buy an extra bond. Butler County already has 97688 dollars in Series E and H sales for January.
A Social Security Administration representative from Waterloo will be in Allison at the Court House on March 8 and 22 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon to help residents file applications for old age survivors and disability insurance benefits and to obtain social security numbers and employer identification numbers. A group of SOY Scouts led by John Mead camped out Saturday night about 2% miles from town beyond Crabapple Creek. They cooked meals over a camp fire and used two tents with straw bedding. Scouts include Bruce Hites Roger Clark Bill Walker Jimmy Kingery Jim Drake Jerry Fischer and Dick Fischer. They returned home Sunday afternoon.
Mr and Mrs Wayne Feldman announce the birth of their son Michael Wayne on Thursday February 22 at Cedar Valley Hospital. The infant weighed 5 pounds 5 ounces at birth.
The Buller County Extension Council outlines plans for the 1962 63 program. Kay Connelly says six committees will set key emphasis areas: live stock and Marketing, Crops and Soils, Farm and Home Management, Public Affairs, Family Living, and Youth. Meetings are scheduled in March to finalize the plan for April approval.
Rixty Johnson born December 29 1888 Germany died February 19 in Waverly after a lingering illness. She married Menno Johnson March 22 1916 Waterloo and farmed near Parkersburg Greene before moving to Greene in 1958. Survived by husband three children ten grandchildren two brothers and several sisters. Funeral at First Presbyterian Church Greene with Rev G F Butler burial Rose Bill Cemetery. Reid Hamilton Funeral Chapel in charge.
W. J. Tatum underwent surgery on Wednesday at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City. Mrs. George Folkerts has been a patient at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital in Mason City after a major surgery last week.

Greene Community School's Industrial Arts Department received a 10 horsepower Evinrude outboard engine from the Evinrude Corporation via local dealer Lyle Maxson. The addition supports engine mechanics training and water safety, expanding marine servicing opportunities for students. In Hospital Bert Kooley was admitted to Spahn Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas, for treatment. His daughter Mrs Vern Rottler traveled there to visit family.
The Greene Fire Department was dispatched to the Ivan Stock residence north of Greene about 2 30 p m Thursday afternoon. The blaze caused little damage to the house owned by Mrs John Blake.
The annual Floyd County Beef Producers Banquet, postponed on February 19 due to heavy snows, will be held Monday noon March 5 at Club Iowa in Charles City. Don Marsh, Beef Producers Association President, confirms the new date.
H G MacLeod and Mrs MacLeod returned Monday night from a two weeks vacation in Florida. They visited Mrs MacLeod's brother in law and sister Mr and Mrs J M MacIntosh of Sault Ste Marie Ontario who were wintering in Clearwater. They also toured Bach Tower Cypress Gardens Tarpon Springs Fort Myers and Sarasota.
Wednesday league results at Greene Lanes show Hot Teacita and Bristow Elevator leading, with high series by Jack Shultz 521 and Duane Miller 530 with 212. Friday Towns and Country and Friday Comedy League results include Alma Heckman 165 and Charmayne Sneed 167 for high scores, plus Erelyn Walker 425 and Jim McLennan 201 for notable totals.
Vern Gard proposes a revised high school timetable to free time for extra class activities. The plan adds flexibility by shifting to more periods including a split noon hour, with eight 55 minute classes and a 20 minute homeroom, enabling broader elective access while preserving transport and supervision considerations.

Dr. Robert French of Des Moines, Synod Executive for Iowa, will speak at First Presbyterian Church next Sunday morning. He leads 340 churches and returns with Mrs. French for the Presbyterian Men's Rally of North Central Iowa Presbytery, with a 7 p.m. address and a 6 p.m. supper by the ladies.
Barbara Allison and Sandra Edwards received top ratings at the district contest held at Mason Jay Saturday. Barbara offered a humorous declamation I Like Alan and Sandra presented Mark Twain Diary of Eve. They advance to the state speech contest in Seciar Rapids on March 31.
The Public Library adds a true crime title Kidnap the Story of the Lindbergh Case by George Waller tracing four years from abduction to execution and a stack of new gift books and novels. Readers recall headlines and clues from the Lindbergh period while gift volumes include American Catholic Etiquette and Touch of Magic about Anne Sullivan Macy. New novels include Pilgrim's Pride To Each her Dream and The Careless Corpse.
The seventy sixth World Day of Prayer will be held Friday March 9 in Greene. The theme is For God So Loved The World. Greene area churches Methodist Presbyterian and Brethren host at the Church of the Brethren at 7 30 p m with Rev Darrell Fryman as speaker.
Governor Norman Erbe proposed a new horizon of opportunity for the deaf in the coming age of computers in business and government. He asked the State Board of Regents to boost data processing and key punch training at the Iowa School for the Deaf in Council Bluffs, noting the strong record of deaf operators and exploring state and local government use as a proving ground. He has discussed the plan with computer companies, vocational rehabilitation, and the state comptroller.
New residents Mr and Mrs James Brunner of 127 Stanton Ames welcomed a son born February 28. He weighed 4% pounds and is named Steven James. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Ed Brunner Greene and Mrs Irene Johnson Nashua. Kate Brunner is a wheat great aunt.
