Rites Held for Edward Thompson in Greene

Edward L. Thompson, born February 27, 1870 in Plymouth Indiana, died February 14 in Charles City at 91. He lived in Greene since 1890, ran a grocery for 51 years, and worked as a telegraph operator earlier. Surviving are his wife Marie and daughter Irene. Funeral at Reid Hamilton Chapel with Masonic rites by Alpha Lodge No 326 and burial at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Two Men Captured After Bank Holdup at Plainfield

Two men, Thomas Rasmussen of Mason City and Ken Truesdell of Waterloo, were captured within five hours after allegedly robbing the Plainfield bank of 15361 Monday afternoon. A teenage girl Bonnie Harding of Ventura and others were held for questioning. Rasmussen was caught in Mason City after noon, Truesdale in Nashua after 7 p.m. The abandoned car with the stolen money was found in Nashua earlier. This marked the second failed attempt to rob the Plainfield bank in about a month.

New residents Mr and Mrs Donald Menken of Cedar Falls welcomed a daughter Deanne Lynn born Sunday at Allen Memorial Hospital Waterloo she weighed 6 pounds 9 ounces. Mr and Mrs Jim Menken of Greene welcomed a son Troy James born Monday February 19 at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City weighing 7 pounds 4 ounces. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs John Menken.

Rites Held for Ambrose Stanton

Ambrose Stanton, 58, died suddenly Thursday at his Greene area home from a heart attack. Born May 28, 1903, in Butler County, he married Martha Maxwell in 1928 and farmed southwest of Greene. Survivors include his wife, five sons, two daughters, nine grandchildren, and two sisters. Funeral at St Marys Church Greene with burial in St Marys Cemetery. Williams Mortuary handled arrangements.

Local vocational agriculture students organize under the National F F A Acts. Members may join for three years post graduation or until age 21. National FFA Week runs February 17 to 24. The organization began in Kansas City Missouri in 1928 and now has 370,000 active members in 8,644 chapters. Iowa reports 9,736 members in 268 chapters.
