The Rev Angelo LoVallo, a former Catholic priest, will be guest speaker at a Calvary Baptist Church service on Wednesday evening February 21 at 730. Born in Dunmore Pennsylvania he attended public schools and won a scholarship to the University of Scranton later earning a four year scholarship to Collegio Brignoli Sale in Genoa Italy where he studied Roman Catholic theology and was ordained in 1940. He left Rome in 1948 and now is with Christ's Mission of Sea Cliff New York.

Edward Thompson 91 died at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City after a lingering illness. Survived by his wife and daughter Irene. Masonic funeral services set for Friday at 2:00 PM at Reid Hamilton Funeral Chapel.

Decision to Cancel Court Tourney Over Hepatitis Fears

Local officials and medical doctors, after weeks of discussion with the Iowa Girls Athletic Union and schools, cancelled games with Rockford on February 9 and the Greene Girls Sectional Tournament due to risk of infectious hepatitis. A special board meeting approved moving the tournament or cancelling Rockford participation, citing health concerns and the Department of Health stance that spread risk was extremely remote.

Scroggins Joins Winnebago Boy Scout Council

Richard T. Scroggins will join the Winnebago Council executive staff on March 1 and serve the Twin Rivers District in Floyd and Mitchell counties and the Butler District in Butler County. A former Cub and Boy Scout, he comes from the Pony Express Council in St. Joseph Missouri and will move his wife and two young children to Charles City once quarters are found.

Mrs Myrtle Shorman 44 Greene faces manslaughter charge in her husband Georges death after an early morning quarrel at their home on November 13 1961. Winners in Instrumental Music Contest Held Saturday Named Winners

About eighty five Greene Community Schools students, chaperones, and accompanists competed in the North Central Iowa Solo Ensemble festival in Mason City. Ray Holtz released results with numerous blue ribbons for solos across flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, drums, brass, saxophone, and ensembles including quartets and choirs.

Awards Given at Cub Scout Banquet

The Cub Scout Blue and Gold banquet was held February 13 in the elementary school auditorium with a large crowd. Leonard C. Rowland of Mason City, Scout Executive of the Winnebago Council, was a special guest. Awards were given to many Cub Scouts including Bobcat pins, wolf badges and arrows, bear badges, lion badges, and Webelos badges. Den mothers and den chiefs were listed for several dens.

New residents Mr. and Mrs. Harold Heeren of Allison are parents of twins born January 30. Lois Marie weighed 6 pounds 9 ounces and Larry Lee 7 pounds 4 1/4 ounces. Waterloo Man In County Jail

Willam Chingwa, 28, of Waterloo, was arrested in Clarksville Saturday night on two charges intoxication and driving while license suspended. He pleaded guilty to intoxication at arraignment in Allison Sunday, receiving 15 days. Bond set at 300 for the license suspension charge to the next term of court.

Floyd County Beef Producers Banquet Monday Speaker

Herbert Orr of KGLO TV Mason City will be the main speaker at the Floyd County Beef Producers Association banquet and meeting at Club Town Charles City on Monday noon February 19. Orr will narrate a Europe travel film including Berlin Germany. A feature will show 25 to 30 cattle feeding arrangements on colored slides. The nine directors are taking pictures of neighboring beef producers. It will be a winter feed lot tour held in comfort.

March of Dimes Drive Totals $264.70 Collected

Mrs. John Groothuis reports the March of Dimes campaign has raised $264.70 to date. The foundation funds expanded programs to fight arthritis crippling diseases birth defects and nervous disorders as well as polio.
