Cub Scout Banquet Tuesday at Greene Elementary

The Cub Scout Blue and Gold Banquet will be held Tuesday evening February 25 at Greene Elementary School with a 6 30 p m dinner. Most scouts will receive awards and show parents their achievements as guest speakers from the Mason City office address the event.

The Greene Post Office will be closed all day Saturday February 22 to observe Washington's birthday. There will be no rural carrier or counter service on that day. Mail will be received distributed and dispatched as on every other holiday.

George Nixt Crowned ISU 191 Pound Wrestling Champion

George Nixt a freshman at Iowa State University in Ames won the 191 pound All University Wrestling title at Ames Saturday night. He defeated Doug Baldwin of Aberdeen South Dakota in the finals and had previously beaten Ross last year's champion in the same division. Nixt previously wrestled for the Greene Rambler squad.

Churches Combine For Lenten Services Begin February 23

Union Lenten Services are planned for six Sunday nights starting February 23 at 8:00 p.m. in a rotating schedule among Presbyterian Brethren and United Methodist churches. Rev Harald Brockus leads the first service at the Presbyterian Church. Speakers include Rev Lyle Albrecht and Judge William Parker.

Grand Opening Planned For McRoberts Building

McRoberts Implement plans a grand opening for its new Greene location near Highway 14 at the north edge across from Massey Ferguson. The event runs Wednesday and Thursday February 26 and 27 with an open house, daylong refreshments, and door prize registration for attendees. The firm began in Greene 28 years ago.

Ramblers Fall to Ackley in Sectional Play at Rockford

The Greene Ramblers lost 63 to 45 at Ackley Raiders last Friday. Greene led 14 to 9 after one, trailed 23 to 22 at halftime, then suffered a 42% to 17% shooting shutout. Siemens led Greene with 18 points. Nueberger led Ackley with 20. The Ramblers face Allison in a regular season finale and begin sectional play February 26 at Rockford.

Vietnam furlough and high school basketball season end in local notes

In Vietnam Alan Trees serves near Saigon after a thirty day furlough with his parents Mr and Mrs Duane Trees. The Ramblerettes wrapped up their season beating Clarksville 63 to 49 but losing to Allison 92 to 62 in section play as Coach Alexander’s team finished 16 and 3 and claimed the conference title 10 to 1. Mary Rattler led Clarksville with 28 points against Rockford, Ann Roose scored 38 for the losers, while Donna Weichers suffered an ankle injury.
