Sheriff and postal inspectors on alert after recent incidents.
The vocal and instrumental music departments present a concert at the high school auditorium this evening at 7 45. Elementary and junior high groups will be featured with instrumental solos from the recent contest. The public is invited to attend.
The Allison sheriff's office investigates the theft of a four speed Warner T-10 floor shift transmission from a 63 Chevrolet owned by John Rusinack of Dumont. The vehicle, with the motor removed, was parked on a side street in Dumont when the transmission was taken early Sunday morning.
The State Conservation Commission set opening dates for the 1964 hunting season including pheasant on November 7 quail October 31 squirrel and rabbit September 12 and Hungarian partridge November 7. Raccoon hunting starts October 17 with trapping opening November 14. Fish rules establish a continuous open season on walleye sauger and northern in all waters except natural lakes May 9-February 15 in the lakes a May 9-February 15 season. Ice fishing hours move to 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and smallmouth bass opens May 30 through February 15. Frog and bullfrog seasons shift to a continuous open date March 1.
Mrs Laura Morey 79 of Greene died February 13 at her home of a heart attack. Born April 29 1884 in Butler County she lived mainly in Greene with time in Letcher SD. Survivors include son Lester and Leonard and Victor Morey. a daughter Mrs John Pyatt. 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Funeral at Calvary Baptist Church February 15 officiated by Rev George Knutson. Rose Hill Cemetery burial. Reid's Funeral Chapel in charge.
The seventh grade Ramblers won 56 to 10 and the eighth grade 48 to 16 over Shell Rock on Tuesday February 14. Seventh graders finished 5 6. eighth graders 5 2. Stuntz and Heidenwirth led the seventh with 12 and 14 points while Drakle and Eimers topped the eighth with 13 and 10 points.
Charles Edward Penticoff twenty two of Parkersburg was arrested by the sheriff on an assault and battery charge. He pled not guilty in Dean Wiegmann's court and bonds were set at 125 dollars for a later justice of the peace hearing. Penticoff remained jailed until Saturday when bond was posted.
A Greene community meeting at the high school on Tuesday evening February 11 organized a local chapter of the American Field Service to promote a scholarship for a senior foreign student to attend Greene High School in 1964-65. Donations should be mailed to V. J. Tatums.
George Belknap sits at Columbia View Manor Vancouver Washington after a rug trip caused a fall injuring his left hip. Delbert Crosby of Shell Rock, an uncle of Mrs Belknap, was visiting the home when the accident occurred.
Bruce A. Mead of Greene earns promotion to cadet second lieutenant and is named flight commander in the Air Force ROTC detachment at Iowa State University Ames. He belongs to Scabbard and Blade and is son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert N. Mead. Cadets receive commissions after AFROTC training and college graduation.
Edward and Marjorie Meyer of Greene have reserved the prefix Meyerkin for their purebred Guernsey cattle. The name is filed with the American Guernsey Cattle Club in Peterborough New Hampshire and will be their exclusive trade mark in the Guernsey world. The club serves about 40 000 breeders coast to coast as a non profit agricultural registry.
Ramblers Dan and Larry Wihli qualified for the championship round in the Waverly Sectional Wrestling tournament held last Wednesday. Larry had a bye and Dan won by decision in both earlier rounds. In first round results, Campbell, Polley, Shirk, Slessor, Whiteside, Peters, L Wihlm, D Wihlm, Poppen, and Harsh posted wins or byes. In the second round, Larry defeated Mast 6-5 and Dan defeated Thompson 4-1, but both lost by decision in the final championship round.
Mrs Cliff Crane submitted to major surgery Monday morning at Mercy Hospital in Mason City.

William F. Dailey of Greene will get a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at New Mexico State University during commencement in University Park New Mexico on June 6 He is among 650 plus graduates for the semester ending in January and is the son of Mrs Estella Dailey of Greene.
The Butler County ASC office in Allison will be closed all day Friday February 21 in observance of Washington's Birthday. Saturday follows as the holiday.
The Greene Sportsman's Club will hold its annual meeting at the Veterans Club on Tuesday evening March 10. An oyster stew and smorgasbord at 6:30 will precede the meeting. Two films will be shown and officers for the coming year will be elected. All members and prospective members are invited.
Dale Kaiser, son of Mr and Mrs C S Maiser, stationed at Anchorage Alaska, has been promoted to Staff Sergeant and re enlisted for four more years.
The Butler County Rural Electric Cooperative held its 26th Annual Meeting of Members on February 12 in Allison. John Scallon Ackley Art Rieckenberg Waverly and Leonard Hauser Clarksville were reelected to three year director terms. J F Hartwig Shell Rock reelected president Roger Peterson Tonia reelected vice president John Scallon reelected secretary Harold Taylor Marble Rock elected treasurer.
Mrs. Louise Petterson slipped on ice while visiting Floyd on Tuesday February and sustained a fractured hip. She is hospitalized at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City where the hip was pinned.
Mrs Will Lalor, 61, died Tuesday morning at St Josephs Mercy Hospital in Iowa City after a bout with illness. Born August 25, 1902 in Rockwell to Dr F E McGlone and wife, she lived in Dougherty for years before moving to Iowa City. Survived by husband, two children, one sister and two grandchildren all of Iowa City.
The Easter Seal campaign will be mailed next Monday February 24 and run from March 1 to Easter Sunday March 29. National chairman is Bob Hope with Iowa chair Forest Evashevski and local county and town co chairs. Am Vet Auxiliaries sponsor with town chairs listed. Funds support crippled children and adults through treatments rehab equipment crafts education camping and Camp Sunnyside, Iowa's only camp for the handicapped located between Ankeny and Des Moines.
Allison Bristow Trojanettes built a 27 15 first quarter lead and held on 73 64 as Peg Cramer scored 39 despite a cold second half. Rae Ann Green sparked late offense for Greene while Margery Marsh led Ramblerettes with 31 in a near comeback. Rockford edged by 67 65 as Ramblers rally ends in final seconds with Ott setting up Fischer for the winning shot.
New resident Mr and Mrs Garold Lorenzen of Webster City announce the birth of a son, Bret Lee, on February 7. The infant weighed 6 pounds 12 ounces. Mrs Lorenzen is the former Sharon Ruffridge, daughter of Mr and Mrs Earl Ruffridge.
Nettie McCue 87 died at Clark Nursing Home after years as a patient. Born October 8, 1876 to Ed ward and Hannah Bickus Tracy, pioneer Tracy family settled Butler County land in 1857. She married Hiram E. McCue May 13, 1921 in Pratt Kansas. moved to Greene in 1924. Funeral 2 p.m. Saturday at Williams Mortuary, Rex Wayne Gjerde officiating. Interment Rose Hill Cemetery.
Albert Barth, a St. Marys Hospital patient in Rochester Minnesota, had a second operation after a February 7 surgery. Lester Stock returned to University Hospitals Town City on February 12 for additional treatment.
Greene fire department battled a large grass fire west of Greene last Thursday afternoon. The blaze spread across a Basil Johnson farm hay field, feeding from a brush fire started by Clyde Skillen and consumed about 20 acres of seeding.
