The Greene Post Office service counter will be closed all day Saturday February 22, 1964. No rural delivery on that day. Mail will be dispatched at the usual hours.
One hundred nine Greene Community Schools music students attended the eighth annual Invitational Grade School Music Festival in Mason City last Saturday. The event, sponsored by the North Central Iowa Band Masters, featured solo and ensemble performances with blue, red, and white ratings awarded.
The Butler County Mutual Insurance Association held its annual meeting in the REC Building at Allison on February 4. Directors were re-elected for three year terms including F. F. Larsen Kesley Aldrick Kneppe Parkersburg and Dale H. Brinkman New Hartford. Tako Ubben Austinville elected to the board replacing Ed Dekker Aplington who did not seek re election. New agents include Dick Grantow Iowa Falls Cliff Shannon Eldora and Ernest De Bower Bristow with De Bower replacing Wickham of Dumont who remains on the board. Holdover board members include H. F. Deike Francis L. Brinkman G. E. Ressler Milton Dye E Q O Wickham Will H. Harms Vernon Hassman L C Hahn Roland Harms and Emmet Wintz. Officers for the coming year are Will H. Harms president Aldrick Kneppe vice president and Dale H. Brinkman secretary treasurer.
Gerald L. Kaplan of Dougherty Iowa has been promoted to airman second class in the United States Air Force. He serves as a fabric leather rubber repair specialist with the 63rd Field Maintenance Squadron. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Edward L Kaplan and a 1960 graduate of St Patricks High School. His wife Eileen is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Leland Ahrens of Sheffield Iowa.
Wesley resident Zeno William Neuroth is arrested Monday February 10 on operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. He appeared in Allison Justice of Peace court with bond set at 500 dollars for the next term. Neuroth was involved in a minor accident on Highway No 3 near Allison.
Mr. and Mrs. Roger Schuk necht returned Friday from a two week vacation across the Southwest. They visited Tempe Arizona and Phoenix Mesa areas, calling on Mr. and Mrs. Russell Barry Bud Raymond Roy Pooley, and in Indio California with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Steere and Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Hartgraves, plus other friends and points of interest.
Senator John J Williams of Delaware will address the annual Republican fund raising dinner at the Veterans Auditorium in Des Moines this evening at 6 30. A reception for ticket holders runs 5 00 to 6 15 in the auditorium lower level with Senators Hickenlooper and Jack Miller Representatives Fred Schwengel John Kyl and James Bramwell and state officials in the reception line.
Representatives from Greene area clubs met at Greene High School to plan hosting a foreign student. Mrs James Graven elected president of the American Field Service International Scholarships group. About $190 in pledges and donations received. donations may be sent to V J Tatum.
Bill Adams and Fred Koerner of Greene Farm Equipment spent Monday in Marshalltown attending the 1964 dealer convention of the Marshalltown Division of Lennox Industries, Inc.
The Butler County Association for Retarded Children announced that a tape recorder and a slide film strip projector have been purchased for use in the county school for retarded children. The photo shows most of the class with the new gear, with one girl absent at home. Mrs Doms of Clarksville teaches the class. Local effort raised 1842 dollars, much staying in Butler County to aid the association and support state and national groups.
Leo Cutshall of rural Allison announced his candidacy for Clerk of District Court in the Republican Primary. The post has been held by Hugh Mosher, who is not expected to seek re-election. Cutshall pledged to administer duties efficiently and unselfishly if nominated and elected. He is married with four children.
Mrs. Cliff Crane is a patient at Mercy Hospital in Mason City receiving treatment. Mrs. Mabel Springer was admitted to Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City on Wednesday February 5 for a ten day stay.

The 78th World Day of Prayer will be observed next Friday February 14 at 7 30 pm at the Greene Methodist Church. The service theme Let Us Pray was prepared by Dr Madeleine Bard of the World Council of Churches Geneva. Participants will include members of the Methodist Presbyterian and Brethren churches and all others interested.
St Ansgar routed the Ramblers 92 to 58 as Steve Mueller led with 18 points while teammates Taylor and Thorson added 22 and 14. Greene’s Barnett scored 18 for Greene, Ott and Fischer added 12 each. Greene reserves were 65 to 35 in defeat.
The Cub Scout Blue and Gold banquet was held at the elementary school auditorium with a large crowd. Jim Drakle chaired ceremonies, Pack 26 presented openings, Walter Wunsch and W. L. Klassi awarded badges and arrows to numerous scouts including David Eimers, Robert McGee, David Skillen, and many others. Den mothers, scouters, and local officials attended. awards covered wolf, bear, silver arrow, gold arrow, lion badge, and webelos badges along with den chief cards and service stars.
Veron L Schuck of Parkersburg declares candidacy on the Republican ticket for Butler County Clerk of Court in the June Primary Election. A longtime retailer and insurer born in 1901 in Pleasant Valley Township, Grandy County, he served as acting postmaster in Parkersburg from 1945 to 1947 and has long been active in local and state politics.
Albert Barth underwent brain surgery at St Marys Hospital in Rochester Minnesota on Friday. His address is Room 2300. Mrs Gladys Ditchen underwent major surgery at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City on Monday morning.
Mr and Mrs Lloyd Bigler and children Mark Lori Lisa and Matt from Allison purchased the new home of the late Matt Next and have moved in Mark is a brother and Lori is in first grade in Greene Community Schools.
Mr and Mrs Roger Schafer of Maugherty are cited as the new residents who became parents to a daughter named Sandra Gay born on Friday February 7 at Mercy Hospital in Mason City The infant weighed six pounds eleven ounces and the family resides in the area.
The Rambierettes defeated Hampton 73 to 45 at Hansell with balanced scoring and strong guard play led by Cheney Drake Stubbe Reed and Johnson. The reserve team fell 50 to 28 to Hampton, showing the gap between the squads.
Mrs. Cora Lockwood Worley 85 of Cedar Falls died after carcinoma at Sartori Memorial Hospital. Born June 11 1878 she married Alonzo C. Worley in 1897. Survived by four sons two daughters two sisters ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Funeral 10 30 am Friday Nelson Funeral Home Cedar Falls with Rev Harvey Nelson. Interment Rose Hill Greene.
Walter Wilhelm of Benne dette Township announces candidacy for the Republican nomination for Butler County Clerk of Court. A military veteran, farmer for 20 years, he attended Butler County Schools and is married with three sons.
Ronald Dean Slocum of Greene faces improper driving charges with a ten dollar fine and four dollars costs. Roger Lynn Shultz of Greene is charged with disturbing the peace with a motor vehicle and owes twenty five dollars fine plus four dollars costs.
The Rambler wrestling squad tied Plainfield 93 lift while losing to Nashua 95 in away duals. Winners included Larry Noel at 103 pounds and Larry Wihlm at 145 pounds. Wihlm’s season record stands at 11 1 1. The team heads to the sectional at Waverly starting 6 30 p.m. on Wednesday.
The Men's City Bowling Tourney concluded Sunday with Fisher Construction taking team honors. John Klooster and Mike Wiegmann won doubles, Wayne Miller took the singles, Galen Maxwell led all events. Scratch winners included Fisher Construction, Klooster, Wiegmann, Miller, Stock in singles and all events. Doubles results list winners with their scratch and handicap scores.
