Creamery Holds Annual Meeting Recap of 1961 Results

The Farmers Co operative Creamery Association held its annual meeting in the high school auditorium. Leo Benson of State Brand Creameries gave a guest talk. W F Nelson is manager with Carroll Schroeder and Charles Reams as assistants. Milk department led by Gust Johnson Milton Humke. Haulers listed: Carlton Boller Duanel Leavens Urban Kelly Dick Mobley Gordon Freeseman Fred Wordmeyer Larry Peters Ronald Schuknecht. Milk purchases reached 25,000,000 pounds in 1961 with total income $941,371.89.

University graduate to volunteer for National Guard duty

Francis Grendler with a social studies BA from the University of Iowa in Iowa City has volunteered for the National Guard Reserves. He expects to leave for training in March.

Cub Scouts Pack Meeting at Elementary School

Cub Scout Pack No. 26 held its regular monthly meeting January 31 in the elementary school gym. The Bear den demonstrated magic. opening exercises were by the Wolf den. Awards went to Duane Schroeder and Lyle Williamson for bear badges, and Dan Wegand for a lion badge. Plans were made for the February 13 Blue and Gold banquet. The Cub Scout basketball team will host Allison on February 10 at 9 a.m. All 8 to 11 year olds are invited to practice Saturdays at 9 a.m. in the high school gym.

Greene Club Supper Meeting Postponed to Be Announced

The Greene Commercial Club supper and meeting scheduled for Thursday evening February 8 has been postponed. A new meeting date will be announced later by club officials.

Greene Cafe and Marsh Dominate City Bowling Tourney

Greene Cafe won the team title with 2518 points while Gertie Marsh swept all events in the women's city bowling tournament. Standings show Curtis Insurance 2503, Murphy Transportation 2484, Stanton Livestock 2473. Top scores include Kay Nordmeyer 179 and Carol Schultz 181, with Marsh totaling 488 for her events. The all events champions are Marsh 1449, Markle 1416, Sneed 1402, Bliss and Schmitz 1342. The Butler County women team claimed the state tourney title at Boone with 2923, listing Loretta Miller, Evelyn Behnke, Marge Kingery, Dawn Cheney and Gertie Marsh.

Local Neighbors Undergo Emergency Surgeries

Francis Wilson of Elwood New Jersey had an emergency appendectomy at an Atlantic City hospital on January 29 and recuperates at home. Mrs Wilson is former Marjorie Newcomer of Greene. Bob Mead of Greene had an emergency appendectomy at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City Tuesday afternoon. Merlin Schrock also underwent surgery at the Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City.

60 Farmers to Attend Short Course At Butler County

The Butler County Agronomy Short Course opens with 60 farmers participating. Kay A. Connelly notes the first day covers land and soil background, soil conservation, soil use, soil testing, and plant nutrition through chemistry. The workshop continues with a second session on February 14.

Former Resident Claude Scott Dies in Wisconsin

Claude Scott 79, former resident of this area, died at his home in Cameron Wisconsin on Monday morning. Funeral services will be held at the Methodist Church in Baron Wisconsin at 2 PM Thursday, burial there.
