The Butler County Chapter of the American Red Cross kicked off its annual fund drive in Allison town hall on February 5. Goal set at 4736 dollars with 2686 to national and 2050 to the county chapter. Chairmen named for Greene town Donald Allan Coldwater Township Elmer Bramer Bennedette and Leland Whiteside Dayton. Expenditures for 1961 62 totaled 524 60 in loans and grants 459 07 in disaster service 1288 69 for first aid and water safety. Water safety program offered free to eight schools last summer at Parkersburg Ackley and Hampton pools.

Walter Behnke fractured his left hip after a fall in his yard on Tuesday afternoon February 5. He lay several hours before neighbor Vern Van Raden found him. Behnke was admitted to Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City where doctors pinned the fracture.

Small Industry Moves To Greene
Temple Engineering Company plans to manufacture small machinery in Greene starting soon. Located on Second Street in the former Produce building owned by Greene Enterprises, owner Gerhard Temple will hire four staff initially and seeks a machinist and stenographer bookkeeper from Greene. The Greene Commercial Club and Development Committee backed the venture, aiming to raise capital via $100 shares. Temple and family will relocate from Waterloo after school ends.

Nordmeyer wins state soybean contest top honor

Local youths held on car theft charges in Greene county
Kenneth Raymond and Roger Clark both 16 of Greene were arrested by Deputy Sheriff Marvin Barth on charges of operating a motor vehicle without owner's consent. Raymond and Clark appeared in Greene Court with bonds set at 600 dollars each. They allegedly took a 1961 Chevrolet belonging to Cecil Starkweather on August 26 1962, and admitted taking cars from Barth's Chevrolet and Klassi's used car lots. They are being held in Butler County Jail in Allison.

Evansdale man arrested for suspended license driving
