Robert F. Klunder of Allison announces candidacy for the Republican nomination for Butler County recorder in the upcoming primary. He has served as recorder since January 2 after filling a vacancy caused by Roger DeBower’s resignation. A lifelong Butler County resident, Klunder is a former Allison Tribune employee, Navy veteran, and Allison High School and Iowa State Teachers College alumnus. He is married with two children.
The two Iowa U S Senators will join Delaware's John J Williams at a Republican dinner in Veterans Auditorium Des Moines next Wednesday February 12. E A Hayes state finance chairman announced the program with Senator Jack Miller introducing Williams. Others include Senator Hickenlooper Iowa Republican Chairman Robert Ray and Iowa congressional members Schwensel Bramwell Kyl Hoeven. Tickets are on sale nationwide. Butler County chair John Stout of Parkersburg aids distribution.
The Butler County Rural Electric Cooperative marks 26 years of service with contracts exceeding 200000 dollars for heavy up lines and a new 69000 volt substation to serve 4400 members in Butler Bremer Chickasaw and Floyd Counties. Annual meeting set for February 12 1964 at Allison Bristow High School Gymnasium Allison Iowa.
Mrs A M Bethke was taken to the Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City on Monday for care and treatment. Additional details not provided.
The Farmers Cooperative Creamery Association met at Greene Community High School, drawing about 200 for a noon lunch. Mac McQueen of State Brand Creameries spoke. officers were Clair Johnson and Duane Smith. Directors reelected include Theodore Brinkman, Harley Hansen, Duane Smith. holders are Clair Johnson Leonard Litterer Lowell Allen. The creamery moved 35,000,000 pounds of milk for 1,105,000 in 1963. Mrs Philip Neumann fractured her left knee cap after slipping on ice Tuesday afternoon January 28 at her grandson Bruce Marshs home. She was treated at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City with a cast and later returned home.
The American Field Service tentatively approves hosting a foreign high school student for the coming year in Greene. A $700 contribution by February 15 is needed from organizations and individuals to cover travel and spending money. Donations may be sent to V. J. Tatum or left at the Superintendent's office, with a donor list published if the goal is met.
David P. Ipsen visits his parents Mr and Mrs Harry Ipsen during a 20 day leave. He is stationed aboard the U S S Bennington with home port Long Beach California. Ipsen enlisted in March 1962 and trained at San Diego and Great Lakes. He has served aboard the U S S Bennington for 14 months and will report for duty February 16.
Shirley Menken aged 21 died in her sleep at 1341 West Maynard Drive Saint Paul Minnesota on January 30 1963. Born June 7 1942 in St John Newfoundland she was married to John D Menken of Wilmar on January 19 1963. Survivors include her husband an infant daughter six brothers three sisters in Newfoundland one sister in Japan and relatives attending from Wilmar Dinsdale Des Moines and Sheffield.
Sportsman's Inn captures the team title with a 2567 three game score including handicap at Greene Lanes. Myrt Sherman leads all events with 525 in nine games, edging teammate Carol Shultz who shares top all events honors with Annette Shultz.
Butler County Association for the Developmentally Disabled Children reports a drive total of 1838.87 with Greene residents contributing 177.36. Seventy percent funds stay in Butler County for projects at New Hartford School. Greene volunteers listed include Mesdames Potter and Kingery among others. An Allison meeting on January 22 featured Mrs. William Woods discussing child psychology and speech therapy work. The group plans a projector, daylight screen, and tape recorder for use in Butler County facilities. Greene residents not contacted may still donate.
Scout Week marks the 54th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America. Observance runs February 7 to 13 with the theme Strengthen America. In the Winnebago Council 64 troops total 2060 scouts aged 11 and up. Butler District lists 17 units with 201 Cub Scouts 192 Boy Scouts and 43 Explorer Scouts.
Lizzie McRoberts 75 died at Gene Curtis home after a long illness. Born Lizzie Sturtz in Rock Valley on December 14 1888 she married William J McRoberts and lived near Rockford and Greene. Surviving children sisters and relatives. funeral at First Presbyterian Church on Tuesday February 4 with Rev Butler and Rose Hill Cemetery interment.

Friday February 14 marks World Day of Prayer with a 7 30pm service at Greene Methodist Church. Volunteers from Methodist Brethren and Presbyterian churches join in a community event inviting the public.
Greene's Steves Clapham and Barnett sparked a decisive Ramblers win over Sheffield 65 37. Clapham scored 12 of 21, Barnett 7 of 11, Fischer brothers contributed rebounds and points, Ott and Spratt added 7 each as Sheffield faded late.
Cub Scout Pack 26 will hold the Blue and Gold banquet on Tuesday evening February 11 at the elementary school starting at 6 30. The program features recognition ceremonies and awards with Uniform Day on Friday February 7 when Scouts wear blue and gold uniforms to school.
Richard Lindell son of Mr and Mrs Glenn Lindell was taken to Allen Memorial Hospital Waterloo Saturday for x rays and treatment. His right leg was injured in basketball practice at school Thursday noon. He is in traction and a cast will be applied later.
Cindy Kay Brinkman daughter of Mr and Mrs Kenneth Brinkman was baptized Sunday morning at St Peter's Lutheran Church.
At Ames the 4 H Leaders Recognition Day honored Butler County leaders. Attending were Mrs. Howard Burroughs and Mrs. Ivan Clikeman, Lowell Allan of Greene, C Dean Johnson, County Extension Associate, and Leonard Schwerdtfeger of Parkersburg.
New residents Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Dovey of Indio California welcomed a daughter born February 1 weighing 7 pounds ounces named Tammy Jo. Grandparents are Mrs. Grace Steere of Greene and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Doves of Thousand Palms California.
Gordon J. Wood, serviceman for S. D. Pooley Lumber Co., returned home after a two day training school on Frigidaire products held in Hinsdale Illinois.
The International Christian Relief will present a program at Calvary Baptist Church on Thursday February 6 at 7 30 p m titled Korea the Land of Children. It shows spiritual and material aid to Korean orphans with colored slides and tape narration by Rev James Shaf. An offering will be received for the effort.
In Hospital Albert Barth was taken to St Marys Hospital in Rochester Minnesota Sunday where he is undergoing examination and treatment Mrs Earl Hyers of Chicago and Marjorie Barth remained in Rochester with their
Douglas D. Marsh communications technician seaman USN reported for duty at the Naval Station Midway Island. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Ralph M Marsh of Greene.
Mrs Harold Barnett was released from Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City on Monday after undergoing major surgery.
Richard Pooley visited Lubbock Texas for a week to spend time with friends during the trip.
Lester Stock will enter University Hospital in Iowa City on Thursday for medical treatment.
The Rambler Batmen finished fifth at the Corn Bowl Conference wrestling meet in Nora Springs. Nora Springs won, with Nashua second, Riceville third, Rockford fourth, followed by Greene and St Ansgar. Larry Wihlm was champion at 145 pounds. Doug Jewell and Rick Backer were runners-up at 138 and heavyweight, while Dick and Dan Wihlm placed third at 127 and 154. First round results include Greene grapplers defeating Bramer and Fox, with Wihlm and Backer posting notable bouts.
