The editor laments the loss of Rev and Mrs Lt Devies who served Greene and St Peter's Lutheran Church for 25 years and retire to Clinton. The piece praises their dedication and praises local families and unity, urging ongoing effort to uphold the community ideals they embodied.
Greene junior high Ramblers girls beat Nora Springs 49 to 16 in seventh grade and 50 to 28 in eighth grade. Rhonda Majewski scored 33 for Greene with 15 from the field and 9 free throws. Connie Christanson led Nora Springs with 20 points while Susan Maxson added 15.
Mr. Grove EK Callison of the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service announced the January reporting period for aliens to submit their current addresses. Forms will be available at all INS post offices during January, and willful noncompliance may lead to serious consequences.
Third class cadet Steven Barnett arrived last Wednesday for furlough with his mother Mrs Iva Barnett and family. He will return to the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado on January 3.
Louis Nixt age 72 died at his Roseville area home after a brief illness. Born near Greene January 23 1894 to John and Kate Nixt he married Anna Marten January 2 1942 at Greene. They farmed near Greene and are survived by his wife three sons two daughters two sisters a brother and thirty grandchildren. Funeral from St Marys Roseville was Tuesday at 10 30 with Rev Alphonse White officiating burial in church cemetery. Reid s Funeral Chapel directed arrangements.
A three day Swine Producers Short Course for Floyd and Mitchell county farmers will run January 11 18 and 25 at the Osage Municipal Building. ISU Extension Specialists will lead sessions on feeding housing swine health and economics. Tickets cost 4 and cover meals and a handbook and must be obtained by January 5 at Extension offices or from Pork Producers Board members.
A Social Security Administration district representative will be at the Allison Court House on January 4, 11, and 25 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. The Waterloo office is in room 702 of the Black Hawk Building at W Fourth and Commercial Streets. call 234-1554 for details.
James Douglas Hess 18 son of Robert J. Hess of Shell Rock has enlisted in the United States Marine Corps for 3 years. He reports to Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego for eight weeks basic training and transfer to Camp Pendleton after. After six weeks of advanced training he will receive his first pay. Hess is a Waverly-Shell Rock High School graduate and enlisted under the Marine Corps 120 Day Delay program with a recruiter at the Allison Selective Service Office every Thursday after noon.
Airman Second Class and Mrs John Backer of Amarillo Texas are visiting parents Mr and Mrs John Backer and Mr and Mrs Douglas Walker for Christmas and New Year. Mark Backer a student at Iowa State University in Ames is also home for the holidays. The Backers return to Texas the first part of next week.
Iowa sportsmen are reminded of pheasant Hungarian partridge and squirrel season closings on January 2, 1967, by the State Conservation Commission. Mink and muskrat seasons statewide, on all State Game Management areas and Federal Wildlife Refuges, close December 31, 1966. Bag and possession limits are: pheasant three and six, Hungarian partridge two and four, squirrel six and twelve. Hunts urged to use mild weather to harvest abundant game.
Mrs. Richard Booth and her son Michael two were injured in a one car crash one mile west of Wilmar on Tuesday morning December 27. The Rambler 1966 was a total loss. Michael sustained a gash requiring stitches after his head struck the windshield. Mrs Booth owns the Isle of Charm Beauty Shop in Greene.
Greene stores will be closed Monday January 2 in observance of New Year's Day. The Post Office will also be closed, but mail will be dispatched as on all other holidays.

The Butler County beef production and management short course opens January 18 at the Farm Bureau Auditorium in Allison with speakers L. J. Bodensteiner and Robert C. deBaca of Iowa State University. Sessions run January 18, 25 and February 1 covering economics, outlook, cow calf herds, production testing and feedlot performance. contact the Extension office in Allison before January 11 to sign up.
Promoted Terry A Thomason promoted to Specialist 4th Class. He serves as an operations specialist in Wackerheim Germany. He entered service March 1 1966. His address lists Sp/4 Terry A Thomason US 55888724 HQ Btry 1st Bn 81st Arty APO New York NY 09185.
Mr and Mrs Raymond Schrage of Charles City announce the birth of a daughter on December 17. Ronnie Deanne weighed 5 pounds 12 ounces at birth and is welcomed home by three sisters Kimberly 5 Kelly 3 and Kathy 14.
Curtis, stationed at Plei Ku Viet Nam since last August, called his parents Mr. and Mrs. Gene Curtis on Christmas Day to report he is well. He serves in the Air Force and is listed as stationed abroad in Southeast Asia.
Private Ewing Miller son of Mrs Gladys Miller has returned to Fort Ord California after a Christmas visit. His new address is Pvt Ewing Miller US 54925665 Co D 2nd Bn 4th Bde Class 126 Fort Ord California 93941.
Mr. and Mrs. William Shepard and son of Minneapolis Minnesota and Mr. and Mrs. John Gard of Missouri Valley spent the Christmas holiday with their parents Mr. and Mrs. Dale Crosby.
Second Lieutenant Bruce Mead stationed at the Orlando Air Force Base spent six days over Christmas with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mead. He is with the 1365th Photographic Squadron. Other dinner guests included Mrs. Dorothy Ruth Robinsdale Minnesota Mrs. Marbel Waite Nashua and Fern Bendickson Mason City.
Week end visit of Mr and Mrs Sam Sneed and their sons with his mother Mrs Catherine Sneed and brother and sister in law Mr and Mrs C W Sneed at Omaha Nebraska. Mrs Catherine Sneed returned to Greene for a visit in the Sneed home.
Mr and Mrs G P Cole of Great Falls Montana visited in the home of his brother and sister in law Mr and Mrs Cecil Cole and their families during the Christmas holiday.

Mrs John Henning came home Saturday December 17 from Mercy Hospital Mason City after surgery. Floyd Bamker was discharged from the Veteran's Hospital Des Moines after several days of treatment.

Mrs Albert Barth of Charles City underwent surgery at Floyd County Veterans Memorial Hospital today. Fred Feldman was admitted to St Joseph Mercy Hospital in Waverly on Sunday after a heart attack.
The junior high Ramblers split with Nashua on Tuesday December 20. Seventh graders lost 26 to 18 while eighth graders won 47 to 19. Joe Shultz and Mark Bigler led Rambler scoring with 7 points each. Nashua’s Naeve led with 15 points.
Butler County surpassed its 1966 savings bonds quota for November with 63,803 in Series E and H sales, raising eleven month total to 833,526 and 101 percent of its goal. Iowa totals reached 6,989,280 for the month and 195,492,005 year to date, 96 percent of the state goal, with congratulations from state officials.
