Mr and Mrs Duane Tiemens of Manchester announce the birth of a son on Thursday December 29. The baby weighs 5 pounds 6 ounces and is named Gregory Lee. He will be welcomed home by a brother, Timothy, 212. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs John Doran of Tama and Mrs Genevieve Tiemens of Greene.
Explorer Scouts will collect discarded Christmas trees on Saturday January 7 by 8 30 am, placing them at the curb. The Burning of the Greens ceremony by Girl Scouts Cadets and Brownies takes place Sunday January 8 at 5 30 pm at Klassi Acres.
The Butler County Swine Producers Association will hold its annual meeting and banquet on January 30 at the Farm Bureau Auditorium in Allison. Tickets go on sale this week at the Extension Office in Allison and from local producers. Dr. M. D. Whitcker, Extension Swine Specialist at Iowa State University, will speak after a recent Europe swine tour, with entertainment, door prizes, and director elections for the coming year.
Public Assistance funds in Butler County totaled 29,286 with December 1966 costs at 5,060,875 and a rise of 34,700 from the prior month. Payments covered Old Age, Aid to Dependent Children, Aid to Blind, Disabled, and Medical Aid to the Aged, with specific amounts listed and per recipient notes.
Darrell Needham, Greene Farm Bureau membership chair, announced a kickoff meeting for January 11. Booth Vallentine from the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation will speak. On furlough Sergeant Richard Backer stationed at Camp Lejeune North Carolina arrived Thursday to spend a 10 day furlough with his parents Mr and Mrs August Backer.
Mae Maxwell known as Mrs. Lawrence Arms died in Burbank California on December 9. She lived in Mason City until about 13 years ago and is survived by her husband a son a daughter and sister Mrs. Harry Ott of Greene. Funeral services were held in Burbank on December 11.
A three day Beef Producers Short Course for cattle feeders in Floyd and Mitchell counties will start Thursday January 19 at Club Iowa in Charles City with sessions January 16 and February 2. Five ISU specialists will cover feeding management buildings equipment and insect pests. Speakers include Nelson Gay William Zmolek Harold Stockdale Fred Roth and Harvey Hinning. Registration via Extension Office Beef Producers board or Extension Council. limit 50 attendees.
Ward Mehlan of Greene, son of Mrs Dorothy Mehlan, was celebrated as a member of Hamline University's 1966 MIAC championship football team. Mehlan, a sophomore, served as a reserve defensive end for the Pipers at the banquet.
Auditor Worthington announced the 1965 Butler County audit is filed with the County Auditor and the Office of Auditor of State for public inspection. Highlights note delayed investment of idle cash until October 1965, potential interest gains of $10,650, and recommendations for a formal investment program. Also covers tax reconciliations, fund balances, misposted receipts, and warrants outstanding beyond ten years to be written off.
The Butler County Extension Service release details the 1966 annual report covering January 1 to December 31. It notes 281 meetings with over 10,000 attendees, 6,642 individual inquiries, 343 articles, 118 radio talks, and 13,200 bulletins. Mr and Mrs Vern Gard and Anthony visited San Diego California for Christmas with Mrs Gard’s aunt Mrs Lohre. The trip from Minneapolis Minnesota was made by jet plane, staying with Mrs Almjie in Bricelyn Minnesota.
Lt. Jr. Grade Grendler and Mrs. Clare Grendler, with their son Christopher, visited Norfolk as the officer is assigned to the aircraft carrier U S S Randolph of the Navy Air Force.
The Floyd County Extension Service sponsors a full day Corn and Soybean Clinic on Friday January 13 in the Government Agency room below the Extension office in Charles City. ISU agronomists Dr E R Duncan and Harvey Thompson lead discussions on production practices fertilizer use minimum tillage soil moisture and hybrid and variety selection. The program runs from 10 00 a m to 3 00 p m.
Mrs. Melvo Majewski won a Zenith colored television in a prize drawing conducted by S D Pooley Lumber Company.
Speakers for the Beef Production and Management Short Course at Allison on January 18, 25 and February 1 include L. J. Bodensteiner Nelson Gay Tom Wicker sham Harvey Hinning and Fred Roth. The three day program covers economics of beef production cow calf herds production testing feedlot performance and nutrient utilization with discussions for both cow calf herds and cattle feeders under Kay Connelly the County Extension Director.
Ramblerettes toppled Rockford 34 to 17 and Ramblers won 47 to 36 on Rockford’s court. Greene led with up close work as Neumeyer and Sutton spurred possession. Drake and Barth sparked defense and scoring. Friday hosts Riceville. wrestling trip also set for Friday night.
Mr and Mrs Linus Schrage of Greene announce the birth of a daughter on December 17 at Floyd County Veterans Memorial Hospital Charles City. Baby Ronnie Deanne weighs 5 pounds 14 ounces and joins a family with grandparents Mr and Mrs Stanley Nelson of Charles City and Mrs Velda Schrage of Allison and great grandmother Mrs Anna Voala of New Hampton.
Mrs Albert Barth, a patient in Floyd County City, underwent surgery on Thursday December 29.
Iowa taxpayers may receive two state tax deductions on federal returns due to the 1966 Iowa withholding change. Some 600,000 Iowans could get state refunds in 1967, making those refunds income to report on 1968 federal returns. Adjust exemptions to even out federal and state tax totals in future years.
Mrs. Augusta Martzahn is ill at her daughter Mrs. William Becker's Fort Dodge home where she is spending the winter months.
